How much do swimming lessons cost?

I want my DD to start swimming lessons in January and ive had a look at our local pool
online and it has really confused me

It states on the websites price list that a junior 30 min lesson was £47 but on the first page advertised £47 per course, 10 weeks

Or is 1 lesson classed as a course? I am going to be shocked if its £47 for 30 minutes Blush

My local council pool is £50 for 10 sessions. They didn't spend a lot of time perfecting technique though it was just through the minimum stage requirements.

So we moved ds (then 5) to a private company which hired a secondary school's pool and it was £7.50 per session paid in 8 week blocks.

They are great but ds (now 7) has ADHD so we moved to 1-1 lessons at £20 each. He's an amazing swimmer though.

I've just mastered floating on my back but I can't get back to my feet without someone to hold on to Grin

Waterbabies is expensive but totally worth it.
Just out of interest what is so good about it? Some of my friends have taken their kids to water babies (or similar) and paid hundreds of pounds over the first few years of their childs life. I go swimming with them and theres no difference between their child and mine. I just don't get it?

Oh also local council pool instructors don't get into the water past stage 2, so the private companies with instructors always in the pool are really worth the few quid extra.

£47 for 30 mins? grin come one

It was this price that threw me off. When i went on the site and it stated £47 per course 10 weeks i thought brilliant

But then when i went on the price list and it said £47 for 30 minutes it threw me

plus i remember my mum saying swimming lessons cost her hundreds of pounds for us so it did ring a bell it being expensive Blush

You didn't really think it was nearly £50 for a swimming lesson did you? No one can that out of touch surely hmm

I dont think its out of touch, ive never paid for swimming lessons before! I have anxiety so overthink things and the price list confused me. I didnt want to ring up tomorrow with the question knowing it sounded daft. Did it make you feel good having a sly dig?

To everyone else thank you for the replies, i am going to have a look tomorrow at local swimming schools and others people suggestions,

@rhymingrabbit3
They learn safety skills, such as what to do if they were to fall into a body of water, swim underwater, learn to dive in etc. Lots of things that I wouldn't have even thought about.
Plus the incentive to go as the lessons have already paid for, mean we actually end up going Grin

DS's swimming lessons are £7.50 per half hour session.

rhymingrabbit3 for DS it was water confidence - he’s completely happy underwater, jumping in, etc. I remember children in my swimming classes who wouldn’t get their faces wet, and that particular barrier won’t be there for DS now. He just has to master the floating part, which will come with time and a bit more awareness of his body (kicks brilliantly on the noodle).

Now I’ve done Waterbabies with him, I could probably teach another child myself. But no way would I have shoved a four month old baby underwater on my own without being in a lesson environment to start with.
