How much is your water bill?

They've just wanted to change my DD from £33 to £67. I live in a 2 bed there is 2 adults and 1 2 year old.

Adults having a shower or bath each day and 2 year old small bath every other day. Do around 4 loads of washing per week and have a dishwasher which is used roughly every other day.

This is very similar to a previous house I lived but I'm concerned why it's gone up so much. Can anyone tell me in relation to their set up whether this sounds about right?

I'm in a new build if that's makes any difference.

Hello! Similar set up to you, £50 per month with two adults and a nearly two year old. No dishwasher. Do at least one load of clothes washing per day. Both adults have one shower a day and the little one either has a bath or shower but mainly a shower.

Bunney2020 · 03/12/2019 14:10

£57 a month but we're on rates. We keep meaning to look into a metre to see if it would be cheaper, but we have a massive garden that can only get watered so much with the water butts we have in the summer.

SouthernComforts · 03/12/2019 14:12

£19 per month, it has varied per house between £13-19 per month. £67 is what I pay for gas and elec combined.

SouthernComforts · 03/12/2019 14:14

Oh and 1 adult 1 child, 2 bed house, we both shower every morning and have a couple of baths a week. 3-5 loads of washing per week, no dishwasher.

PinkDaydreams · 03/12/2019 14:15

@SouthernComforts I’m jealous your water is so cheap!!

areyouafraidofthedark · 03/12/2019 14:15

£33 a month and that's for two adults and three children. Washing machine and dishwasher on most days, three showers and a bath everyday.

bloodywhitecat · 03/12/2019 14:19

£170 a year, supply only.

PinkDaydreams · 03/12/2019 14:23

I’ve just used a tool in the United utilities site to see how much it should cost for the year. You fill in how many showers a week, how many clothes washes etc and it calculates it for you.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/12/2019 14:24

Your water company website should have a calculator where you can answer questions about how many baths etc that you have to give an approximate annual bill. Water costs vary considerably across the country so random numbers from other posters with no information about location don't tell you anything.

Monthly DD doesn't tell you much either as it could be that you've previously underpaid and now they want you to catch up - eg you were using £50 pm of water, but only paying for £33 so you've built up a debt, so the new payment is to cover what you're actually using plus extra to pay for water you've used but not yet paid for.

MadisonAvenue · 03/12/2019 14:34

We have a water meter.
We’re a household of four adults (with two regular overnight guests), four showers (minimum) daily, 3-4 loads of washing per week, three cars being washed weekly, hosepipe used over the Summer and we’ve just had our 6 month bill which was £202.

MadisonAvenue · 03/12/2019 14:34

Oh, and the dishwasher is used daily too.

danni0509 · 03/12/2019 15:39

£39 a month for water, I get a specific tariff though as I have psoriasis and this tariff covers skin conditions.

Otherwise, it's £57 a month I think,

AliceLittle · 03/12/2019 15:47

£205 per year. Not metered.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/12/2019 15:52

£15.50 per month. Three bed terrace with just me and DS living here.

Dowser · 03/12/2019 16:02

Meter, two of us in 4 bed bungalow.
I think about £28 a month
Before meter..me and exhusband, son and baby grandson was about £35. That was 15 years ago
No dish washer and washer on a couple of times a week, baths and showers
March till November we spend more than half week at caravan..forgot about that
So not really a true reading is it?

Dowser · 03/12/2019 16:03

My cousin in vale of Glamorgan was paying £75 reduced to £25 when husband got bowel cancer

Tensixtysix · 03/12/2019 16:07

Our water rates were £1000 a year (not rated), but since last summer we've had a water meter put in. We're hoping that it will be MUCH cheaper.

Snozzlemaid · 03/12/2019 16:09

Spare a thought for those of us here in Cornwall.
We pay £1000 a year!
Not metered as the calculator indicates we would pay more.

wendz86 · 03/12/2019 17:15

Meter but pay a dd of £22 a month . Small 2 bed house with 1 adult 2 children .

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/12/2019 17:19

£25 a month.

One bath a day, one shower for me, dw on every night and probably 4/5 loads of washing.

PhoneLock · 03/12/2019 17:28

Monthly DD doesn't tell you much either as it could be that you've previously underpaid

True. One of our neighbours changed his mind about water meters and had one fitted when he found out we were paying £2 a month.

SuperDonkey · 03/12/2019 17:31

£19 for 2 adults and a child

SuperDonkey · 03/12/2019 17:32

But we pay a flat rate, no matter what we use

Snozzlemaid · 03/12/2019 20:31

SadCrying here at how little you all pay.
