True Crime Podcast

Hey guys,

So I started a true crime podcast (I'm not here to advertise) about 2 months ago.

I'm a huge fan of plenty of pods, many of which are UK based and was wondering- do you guys listen?

What do you do when listening- I'm generally cleaning or working.

I wanted to know who your favourites are and what you pet hates are. Also what kind of cases do you guys listen too.

The podcasts I love are
Mens Rea
Case file
Nordic true crime
True crime Sweeden
They walk amongst us and the Murdertown by the same host.
Over the weekend I have listened to "Hunting WarHead"and the "The mysterious Mr Epstein' Both amazing.
I like 'once upon a crime".
"Teachers Pet and 'the dropouf' were good
I want facts and not too many opinions. I want crime stories to be treated seriously and not joking around.
I prefer one narrator and if there is two I don't want 8 minutes of ' hey, how's your week?' Style chat true blue crime. ( true blue crime, this is you!!).
I always listen by myself and listen when the office is empty, at home through the speaker or in the car.

LittleDidSheKnow · 03/12/2019 01:23

I’ve only listened to Casefile so far, but am really enjoying it. I’ve got some good tips from this thread on what to listen to next!

What I really dislike, though, is two (or more) presenters blabbering to each other. Prefer single narrator.

ladyjpod · 03/12/2019 05:28

Thanks guys, I've actually been on a murder mule tour. If you're ever in London on a Sunday morning you should go. It's a lot of fun!

I've got some great ones to listen to from here. Trace is brilliant- I've only just started to listen to it but is well researched and clearly narrated.

Teachers pet is great, I spoke to the host when I first started- lovely!

Outlines is so well researched as well.

@tobee thanks for the sub, let me know what you think. I'm trying to improve everything and get it to a good standard.

Crime Junkie
Sword & Scale
Criminology
Dateline
Murdertown/2

All great 👍

CloudyVanilla · 03/12/2019 07:55

Following :)

Have never heard of some of these but can now add them to my list as I am now up to date with crime junkie and case file, sigh.

Cheesymonster · 03/12/2019 08:11

Will definitely give yours a listen OP Smile

I love Redhanded and Crime Junkie the most. True crime obsessed is good too but you will either love or hate the presenting style. Casefile is great, love his voice.

I like to listen when I’m doing housework or watching DD at football. Sometimes I sneakily listen at work Grin.

notacooldad · 03/12/2019 10:50

cheeseymonster Have you listened to all of Casefile? There is a huge shift in the way the narrator speaks in he earlier episode to the more recent shows.

Cheesymonster · 03/12/2019 12:49

No only a few. When I find a new podcast I tend to listen to the cases I’ve heard of to kind of get a feel for it. Then if I like it I’ll go back and listen to them all in order.

LittleDidSheKnow · 03/12/2019 13:21

I’ve downloaded a couple of your ‘casts to listen to on my dog walk, OP.

I must say though, that I don’t think I’ll be able to stomach your episode from yesterday!

ladyjpod · 03/12/2019 13:52

Yesterday's episode was so hard to write and record. I can't stand violence towards a child but I felt like Tommy's stories deserved to be remembered. Such a sad story though

I love true crime podcasts.
Casefile, they walk among us and the unseen ad a few of my favourites.
The unseen is great if you like historical and unsolved cases although the woman's voice is a little grating at times the content is good.

I'll definitely have a listen to yours op.
Podcasts are fast becoming my favourite thing to listen to while I'm doing the housework.

FreyaMountstuart · 03/12/2019 14:52

Death in Ice Valley

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/12/2019 14:56

I find unsolved cases fascinating. I recently watched a YouTube documentary on Mary Boyle's disappearance after listening to a podcast on BBC Sounds, I tend to Gerry a bit obsessed and if I hear a good podcast I research it further. I like hearing about British crimes because I understand the justice system here and I find the US ones too sensationalist. I'll check out your podcast.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/12/2019 14:56

Get. Not Gerry. Don't know what he's got to do with it.

loserssaywhat · 03/12/2019 15:03

I listened to the Mary Boyle one last week as well. Was really very sad and I thought they dealt with it really well.

notacooldad · 03/12/2019 15:34

*No background music when you are talking. Make sure your geographical info is spot on. Try to add something new to well known cases, I like to hear your theories. I will always skip any waffle at the start/end. If there's anything you need me to know, write it in the show notes.
I have to disagree with some of this. I dont like intrusive background music but something subtle adds a little depth. I dont want your theories, unless you are involved in the case. I just want facts . If theories are put in I want them to be from people involved .
I agree with no waffling. Someshows take nearly 3 minutes before some podcasts start with the story. One was nearly 8. By that time I've lost interest
I'm not intrested in unsolved cases. I want the story togo to the conclusion and how the culprits are caught.
One other thing want is a change of tone when the sponsorship break comes on. I was listening to one on monday and a scene was being set and then the host was talking about a home delivery of something and I could work cut why. I know I was slightly distracted but there does need to be a difference between the story and an advert!!

tobee · 03/12/2019 16:06

Will do @ladyjpod ! Smile

redexpat · 03/12/2019 19:02

I know you requested UK ones, but Serial and S Town are really very good.
If I'm listening to a podcast them I'm driving home or trying to get to sleep.

redexpat · 03/12/2019 19:02

Oh and do you know there's a podcast section on MN? Under film and tv.

ladyjpod · 03/12/2019 19:18

Ooo is there I'll check it out! Didn't know.

On a very good note I've been binging on a load of your suggestions and I've just checked my stats. I've just entered the UK true crime Apple chart at #147!

bananamonkey · 04/12/2019 16:38

Gave you a listen today @ladyjpod and really enjoyed it, will work my way through the rest.

ladyjpod · 04/12/2019 16:55

Aw thanks @bananamonkey 😊

tobee · 06/12/2019 22:29

Hi @ladyjpod!

Just finished listening to your first episode! I really liked it. I thought it was very well written and you showed some good personality as well.

I think I'd heard of the case before (been intrigued by true crime for about 35 years ShockBlush) but it was very interesting to hear anyway. It's good to hear lesser known cases; a lot of cases get podcast treatments over and over. It was also a good length.

Looking forward to listening to some more to see how your style develops, and to learn of some more stories.
