True Crime Podcast

Hey guys,

So I started a true crime podcast (I'm not here to advertise) about 2 months ago.

I'm a huge fan of plenty of pods, many of which are UK based and was wondering- do you guys listen?

What do you do when listening- I'm generally cleaning or working.

I wanted to know who your favourites are and what you pet hates are. Also what kind of cases do you guys listen too.

Listened to my favourite murder for a few months but began to tire of the chat and slightly too lighthearted treatment of such serious crimes. I listen as i clean in the kitchen or working outside when its warmer, so i like a podcast to start and finish in 1. I enjoyed casefile. Will definitely try out your podcast.

ladyjpod · 02/12/2019 20:02

Thanks guys. Let me know what you think 😊

I might not try my favourite murder now as I'm not really into lots of talk and the more lighthearted ones. I mean I understand that you can have a laugh but as long as it's respectful you know? I think true crime all the time has a good balance between lighthearted and serious.

Love LPOTL. Was very lucky and got to see them live recently when they toured the UK. I agree with others that their later episodes are better - I really loved their recent series on Bonnie and Clyde.

Used to like My Favourite Murder but went off them after a while. Same with All Killa No Filla - they just annoyed me. And i used to listen to Sword & Scale but the presenter seemed to jump off the deep end and I stopped listening after so many sensationalist offensive comments about mental health.

I really like And That's Why We Drink though. It's half true crime, half ghost stories, and really good fun.

Criminal is great too. And, not technically true crime, but I love Ear Hustle, the podcast made at San Quentin.

I also recommend Small Town Murder if you like the comedy true crime podcasts.

@JammyGem ooo I'll check out some of those. I dropped sword and scale ages ago. You're right about going off the deep end mind.

Bloody murder is a good true crime comedy podcast. I listen to them weekly

All Killa No Filla - 2 Brits quite rood in places but great fun

Moms and Murder - 2 American girls

Crime Junkie - 1 main American narrator and her mate

Casefile - 1 Aussie guy

If you like History; try the History Chicks

Gossip; try Trashy Divorces

Also like They Walk Among Us as recommended above

ChestnutSmoothie · 02/12/2019 20:38

Crime Junkie recently got caught plagiarising the work of Trace Evidence...big drama in the true crime world.

I love Generation Why & True Crime Garage (pioneers in the field) and Date With Dateline.

bananamonkey · 02/12/2019 20:53

Broken Harts was fascinating. A serial podcast about a very bizarre case of two women, their adopted children and their bizarre death. As it goes in more is revealed about their lives and how much of a sham it was. I was hooked

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 02/12/2019 21:04

I'm listening to Canadian True Crime at the moment. Also like Casefile, The Vanished, The Murder Squad and MFM. I find it hard to believe that serious crime such as abduction, murder etc is rare as is so often asserted on here and on Crimewatch etc. Seems to be going on constantly if these podcasts are anything to go by.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 02/12/2019 21:10

Oh and The Teachers Pet was brilliant. Probs my favourite one so far.

Andonandonan · 02/12/2019 21:14

I used to love all Killa but it got too waffley & off topic for me as they went on.

I really enjoy crime Junkie, I think they have a good no-frills format.

Next on my list to try is red handed.

HarrietOh · 02/12/2019 21:22

RedHanded, my absolute fave!

DobbyLovesSocks · 02/12/2019 21:53

I love true crime. Might have to give some of these a try

twinklewink · 02/12/2019 22:01

The Lady Vanishes is worth a listen, will definitely be trying some of the others mentioned here too. Thanks OP.

Pilipilihoho · 02/12/2019 22:14

Really dislike the ones with two presenters trying to be funny - and most with two presenters at all: I can occasionally stomach TCATT and Unsolved, though.

I hate any that gush about the perpetrator(s).

Top of my list is Trace Evidence and True Crime Island. Also like the Vanished and Nina Innstead's pods. Casefile is OK.

The only UK one I actually like is Outlines - really well done. Most UK true crime is people with tedious monotones or aggravating accents, in all honesty. One Eye Open was excellent, but she finished up earlier in the year, sadly.

In the dark - series 2 is an astounding bit of investigation with a remarkable ending.
The thing about Pam
Dateline
RedHanded - this is great. Only just discovered.
Hell and gone.
Teachers pet - think still available here but blocked in Australia due to court order.

Crookshanks24 · 02/12/2019 22:25

Absolutely obsessed with Criminal. Not all about murders but different crimes such as faking a death and a man who was a bank robber, so so interesting.
Also of course- they walk among us. I just love his voice!

zeeeex · 02/12/2019 22:38

Sword and scale is a good one!

FairyJuice · 02/12/2019 22:45

I love Mens Rea, it's recorded and produced in Ireland but the host covers cases from Ireland and the uk. Some really great episodes!

RevIMJolly · 02/12/2019 22:52

I really enjoyed The Fall Line. it's long form, and pretty serious, but it's fascinating.

And I do love MFM. I've been listening for ages. I find the whooping at the live shows pretty annoying, but when they get a story that works, it is pretty awesome.

tobee · 02/12/2019 22:52

I love true crime podcasts and listen a bit addictively.

I prefer to binge listen to deep dive multi part episodes but like to listen to single episode ones when I'm choosing my next serial!

I listen when I'm clearing up/doing boring jobs.

I've recently been listening to The Storyteller: Murder Most Foul that's a case from Aberdeen that's currently dropping. I'm waiting for the next few episodes to drop so I can binge a bit more.

While I wait I am listening to The Clearing.

Op I've just subscribed to your pod! Grin

SinisterBumFacedCat · 02/12/2019 23:38

I fucking love RedHanded! Also Sinisterhood is good.

Giraffey1 · 02/12/2019 23:52

Following this as I listen to a lot of podcasts and am always looking for my next fix! Lots of ideas here, thank you.

EvilEdna1 · 03/12/2019 00:02

Murder Mile is very well researched. Lots of obscure historical London murders as well as better known ones.
