Ear plug recommendations- the thread you were waiting for.

Sorry this is so dull. Smile

I've bought two different lots of ear plugs recently. I chose them as they were highly rated but neither seem to work.

Am I doing something wrong?

I need to wear them for sleep if anyone has any recommendations.

I discovered these little beauts a few months ago. Brilliant. Work like a dream Grin

Quies Foam Ear Plugs x 6 Pairs (FREE UK P&P) £5 from ebay.

Stumbled on them by accident in a pharmacy when I'd forgotten my usual ones. Haven't used a different brand since (that was 4y ago).

Used every night until my baby was born, now I just use them when I get a "night off" or a lie in.

Howard Leight max lite (green ones) on eBay/Amazon. SO soft and comfortable and work a treat.

Ooh thanks for the replies!

Do I have to push them in very far? Shock

OP posts:
IdleBet · 30/11/2019 23:09

Howard Leight pink & yellows. Nice and squishy.

IdleBet · 30/11/2019 23:11

Roll them to make them thin, push them into your ear. Enough so they aren't sticking out. Then they will expand blocking out noise.

IdleBet · 30/11/2019 23:13

They will stick out a bit but you'll know if they aren't in properly because you'll still hear everything clearly. So roll them and try again.

tobee · 30/11/2019 23:13

Do they come out easily? I'm now worrying about them getting stuck, having to get them removed by a medical person, and feeling like an idiot! Blush

B&Q orange ones. I wear earplugs thicker end in the ear so they don’t have to go so far in.

DrPimplePopper · 30/11/2019 23:20

The yellow foam ones are the best for me, v cheap on eBay! Roll them up a bit and push them in

hettysdrawers · 30/11/2019 23:22

Another vote for Howard leight- I roll them thin, put them in then put my hand over my ear until they've expanded and they block out everything.

Bb2019 · 30/11/2019 23:22

Moldex foam ones on amazon

Alicesweewonders · 30/11/2019 23:23

3M Ear Classic ( yellow form) are the best & I've tried many ( not a good sleeper) you can find these in Boots. Or buy them in lots on eBay which is far cheaper.

Bb2019 · 30/11/2019 23:24

Or this trial pack of various brands until you find the perfect fit:

Moldex Howard Leight by Honeywell Soft Foam Ear Plug Variety Trial Pack 10 Pairs https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N4VPCCV/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_oOV4DbQXBKJE3

Spartak · 30/11/2019 23:25

The Moldex Sparks 35db are great. I buy them in bulk off Ebay. If you PM me your address, I'll post a pair to you to try when I get back from holiday at the weekend.

GoKartMozart · 30/11/2019 23:26

So apparently women have smaller ear holes (technical terminology) and with that in mind I ordered Macks dream girl earplugs. They are garishly pink but by far the best ones I've used and ive been through Quies and all sorts.

tobee · 30/11/2019 23:26

Thank you!

Just came into my head that if they were from eBay they might be second hand! Envy(joking)

Silicone ones for me, am surprised everyone’s talking foam.

These are the best ones I've ever found! Night shift worker here and have tried many an ear plug.

OneToThree · 30/11/2019 23:28

3M here too. Brilliant.

frogsbreath · 30/11/2019 23:29

E.A.R soft gx 39db noise reducing are the best. Have saved my
Marriage with DH's god awful snoring. Can use them at least two nights before replacing )roll between thumb and forefinger and then insert in ear canal, they need 5-10 seconds to fill canal).

I buy a box of 200 for about thirty quid

MzPumpkinPie · 30/11/2019 23:30

Another silicone ear plug user here.
Absolutely would not use any other type

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 30/11/2019 23:31

Another vote for Howard Leight pink & yellows. A hostel I stayed in provided them a while ago and they worked so well I've bought a few pairs since. They're comfy and block out everything - amazing if you're struggling to sleep or when I get migraines.

They have a thick end so you can't get them stuck (pic attached)

tobee · 30/11/2019 23:38

There's been much more interest in this thread than I'd thought there'd be!

People have strong opinions. Probably not surprising as they must be a life saver to some.

Boot own wax ones for me - didn’t get on with foam as they irritated my skin and silicone ones got my hair stuck on them!
