I don’t think it’s aged much.
The smoking in bars thing seemed weird even within a year of the smoking ban and I think the first season must have been filmed just before that came in.
Re: the sixth former girls friend. That wasn’t presented as normal. It was a joke and a bit of a “are we allowed to laugh at this?” 
even then. They pushed it further by joking about her being grounded, having a netball trip, collecting sylvanian families ... They weren’t trying to be PC. I bet they had quite a few discussions on what they could get away with on that joke and I don’t think there were ever any references to sex so that’s probably where they drew the line.
The second trailer was much better than the first.
