Incredibly dull things your husband gets excited about

Please tell me I'm not the only one?

We live in a village and have a bit of a drive to the nearest "proper" shops. Hence the excitement over the new Eurospar that has been built over the last few months, opening today.

DH has provided a running commentary on the development of this project, his approval of how they've blended the new construction nicely in with the facade of the listed building involved, his disgust at the choice of electricians used (he spotted their van) his excitement when he peered in the window and realised it's actually going to be a sort of split level effect...

Today I woke up in darkness to DH's head sort of floating above me in the morning gloom, and a hiss of "it's half six. The new Eurospar opens at seven"

I had to tell him that, according to Facebook, it opens at 12,and he will have to wait until tomorrow so we can visit it as a family. He was absolutely crestfallen, but I'm going to suprise him with an emergency need for chocolate later tonight. He will then be able to visit this new Mecca, and come back all puffed up like a pigeon, to report on its wonders. I imagine that once the excitement fades, he'll go back to his previous fixation, "what sort of shed shall we get next summer"

Cable ties! He adores them

Pinkarsedfly · 29/11/2019 21:45

The Zimmerman Telegram.

Don’t ask. I’ve never able to be able to concentrate for long enough to grasp it.

Hmm
BarbaraofSeville · 29/11/2019 21:45

I have no love for the screwfix catalogue though, which seems to be the deciding factor. DP seems to also have a love for a high end tools and hunting knives website (Hennie Haynes), he keeps showing me tools that cost £££s.

DeeZastris · 29/11/2019 21:46

How could I forget his obsession with Savage Hunters? 🤦‍♀️

BikeRunSki · 29/11/2019 21:47

Gear ratios

But I have a book about concrete, and several about soil.

My Dh has a Lemax Christmas village and every year in October he shuffles off to the garden centre, looks at all the new pieces and then takes himself off for a nice coffee and cake while he considers his options. Then he buys himself a piece and brings it home where we all have to sit nicely while he unveils it.

Then on Dec 1st the whole village comes down from the loft and he tinkers with it all day, fiddling around with batteries and glueing pieces back on.

He's spent over £700 on this basically cheap, badly painted tat over the years. Other than this, he's a nice normal bloke.

Hoppinggreen · 29/11/2019 21:51

earlybird your DH must be beside himself at the moment given that there’s 2 of them temporarily!!

DareDevil223 · 29/11/2019 21:53

What a lovely thread Smile

My DP loves tennis. Any day, any time of year, he can find tennis on the television. His love for Andy Murray is almost disturbing. I once jokingly said 'you love Andy Murray more than you love me' and the pause before he finally said 'of course I don't beloved' was uncomfortably long Grin.
'
On the other hand he happily indulges my adoration of Dcat and my detailing of said feline's endless virtues, beauty and character....

Mercedes519 · 29/11/2019 21:56

When DH starting riding his motorbike he used to show me his gopro footage. Like an hour of him riding along a road with a commentary of what the cars were doing. He's stopped that now as I think he even bored himself.

However don't get me started on YouTube videos of infected cows feet....

VenusClapTrap · 29/11/2019 21:59

Barbara I’m actually rather jealous that you’ve been up Emley Moor. I could see it in the far distance from my bedroom window as a child, and we once drove to it for a day out. This involved parking in the lay-by at its foot, looking at it, eating a sandwich, then driving home again.

Such was a Yorkshire childhood.

adaline · 29/11/2019 22:04

Building equipment - drills, ladders, paint, plaster, bits of wood and various other implements Hmm to be fair it is related to his job but my god can he talk about it!

adaline · 29/11/2019 22:06

@VenusClapTrap mine is obsessed with Strava too - and all the different races he can do and how he beat some random man from down the road that he's never actually spoken to Grin

nevergotthehangofthursdays · 29/11/2019 22:11

My DH is obsessive about Pokemon Go and the allotment. 🙄

SpringFan · 29/11/2019 22:12

Oh Strava! DH has installed it as DS1 uses it, and they discuss their friends' journeys as well.
Two of them at it. I win! I am just waiting for DS2 to get in on the act.
Did I mention recycling various types of plastics ......... Oh and the finer points of strip packaging for tablets- he used to work in the pharmaceutical industry.

notthenormal · 29/11/2019 22:16

The screwfix catalogue is nick named acceptable porn where I work

Pugsleyaddams · 29/11/2019 22:17

My DH doesn't get a Screwfix catalogue, he just looks things up on his app. It's the trip to Screwfix he loves and he's now roped our 5yo dd into it too. He regularly now waltzes into the living room on a Sunday morning announcing 'I'm going to Screwfix and the cash and carry, who's coming?' At which point DD comes alive and screams 'YAAAY!' And that's it, they're dressed, teeth brushed, faces washed and out the door in record time (takes her a good half hour to get ready for school 🙄) with 2yo DS and me just waiting in their dust. Then we get regaled with stories of the things they saw/ bought in Screwfix, what the queue was like, where they parked in the cash and carry, which trolley they got, what they bought, and on and on it goes. DS has just started noticing them going with such excitement and wanting to go too instead of coming on a boring dog walk with me and DH is very wary of this, DS will not be a good boy in either Screwfix or the Cash and Carry and I look forward to the day he takes DS along, he'll be a NIGHTMARE touching things and running about 😂

Dylanpickle · 29/11/2019 22:19

Screwfix is third on the list in our house, behind Tool station catalogue and Euro Car Parts on line offers.

Motorbikes, motorbike parts, motorbike improvements, motorbike racing, motorbike YouTube, motorbike clothing, motorbike shops and Volvo's

Motorways and A Roads of the UK, best routes anywhere.

Watches.

Japan & Japanese culture (Japanese motorbikes & JDM watches)

I am the Gadget, Geography, Food, French obsessive though, so we each have our geek to 'suffer'!

Blibbyblobby · 29/11/2019 22:19

Maths. He watches 70s open university maths lectures on you tube then plays me the “best” bits.

adaline · 29/11/2019 22:20

DH recently got a job near the local B&Q - I swear I'll never hear the end of it!

BikeRunSki · 29/11/2019 22:26

@BarbaraofSeville and @VenusClapTrap, I’ve lived a few miles from Emley (less than 2 miles as the crow flies)for nearly 20 years, and have entered so many competitions to go up the mast in that time. I once had to pick something up from the (ground level) office, but that’s the closest I’ve got!

SugarMiceInTheRain · 29/11/2019 22:31

Painting miniature figures to go in his board games. He's recently rediscovered this hobby 30+ years after he last did it. Zzzzz.

candycane222 · 29/11/2019 22:42

Enjoying all this love for the Emley Moor mast. I promise you I am not anyone's DH but I cannot help boasting that when I was little I was taken to see the collapsed remains of the old one when the icicles on the guy ropes brought it down. Very eerie in the fog!

Mine too is a meticulous comparison shopper bless him, and also has apps to tell him exactly how much power everything in the house is using from anywhere. Which I scoffed at, until I discovered he could use it to check I hadn't left the iron on for me!!. You gotta love 'em!

AwdBovril · 29/11/2019 22:43

Maths. He reads these Difficult Maths Books, & then tries to involve me. I am not really a maths person. Also, music. He's obsessed with music, he probably owns more than some DJs. He fills the TV recorder with his endless interminable music documentaries, old recordings of TOTP, etc, etc... snore.

jigsawmaniac · 29/11/2019 22:46

Vacuum cleaners. He got a dyson for his 30th birthday years ago, and now moved onto a shark for Christmas this year! Hmm
