Incredibly dull things your husband gets excited about

Please tell me I'm not the only one?

We live in a village and have a bit of a drive to the nearest "proper" shops. Hence the excitement over the new Eurospar that has been built over the last few months, opening today.

DH has provided a running commentary on the development of this project, his approval of how they've blended the new construction nicely in with the facade of the listed building involved, his disgust at the choice of electricians used (he spotted their van) his excitement when he peered in the window and realised it's actually going to be a sort of split level effect...

Today I woke up in darkness to DH's head sort of floating above me in the morning gloom, and a hiss of "it's half six. The new Eurospar opens at seven"

I had to tell him that, according to Facebook, it opens at 12,and he will have to wait until tomorrow so we can visit it as a family. He was absolutely crestfallen, but I'm going to suprise him with an emergency need for chocolate later tonight. He will then be able to visit this new Mecca, and come back all puffed up like a pigeon, to report on its wonders. I imagine that once the excitement fades, he'll go back to his previous fixation, "what sort of shed shall we get next summer"

Witchend he is most partial to a computer! 🤣

Krisskrosskiss · 29/11/2019 14:52

My dad loves the screwfix catalogue.... thankfully my husband has no interest.
My husband does like football...he kept it quiet for a long time and I didnt realise quite how into football he is (he does not at first glance seem like someone who would be into football, he has a degree in fine art and makes sculptures of flowers) but hes obsessed with football scores... at least he doesnt try and involve me with it...
He also collects os maps and just looks at them... it sounds cute if he isnt your husband, but he has literally thousands of them and they get everywhere because we have two very young children who love to get them and unfold them...
He also spends ages on photoshop making things he thinks are very funny using a mash up of 70s culture and philosophy books... I quite like those things but even I have only ever found two of his creations amusing... I think there are probably only a handful of people in the entire world who would find most of them funny... but he spends hours on them then just sits there laughing to himself

We would love a bin app. Every Thursday morning we have the same conversation about which bin it is today. Actually, he asks me what bin goes out today and I tell him to look it up with a scowl.

Biscuitsandteaplease · 29/11/2019 14:54

@Bluntness100 mine too, snore

Lunafortheloveogod · 29/11/2019 14:55

Protein... bastarding protein!
Not just drinks and bars like in food, seriously I’ve got him to try vegan food (he seriously doesn’t like veg) by telling him it’s got x amount per serving that’s higher than xyz!
He was over joyed when he realised he’d ate a stupid amount in one day..

Why do I want a Eurospar now.. they seem exciting Grin (if they wake anyone at half 6 for a spar it must have something fancy)

VioletCharlotte · 29/11/2019 14:57

I love this thread, some of these are so funny and sweet. I don't have a DH, but I have a Dad who is obsessed with maps, and has even been known to take his AA route map to the loo! He loves a smart meter and would be over the moon with the bin app.

DS1 gets very excited about guitars and is always sending me photos of guitars and links to You Tube clips.

DS2 obsessively monitors the growth and thickness of his beard!

dontmentionbookclub · 29/11/2019 14:58

This is a great thread and I can't tell you all how delighted I am to not be alone in this. It's electric cars in our house at the moment. Most boring subject in the world as far as I'm concerned but I pretend I have some interest some of the time. So boring, though.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/11/2019 14:58

Ooh, I've just checked and my city has a bin app.

I wonder if there's a button to allow you to remind them to pick up the bin when they've 'forgotten' even though it was out in the correct place and another to complain at them again when they skilfully leave it in such a place that it handily blocks the pavement and my driveway too.

How hard is it to put it back where you found it?

Chottie · 29/11/2019 15:02

The Screwfix catalogue

ChangingMyNameFromMUUUUUMMMM · 29/11/2019 15:04

The new Tesla truck. Which turned out to be ghastly looking!

Mrsjayy · 29/11/2019 15:04

We were away a long weekend with friends and one of the couples were right into their Bin App they both got alerts but had to look it up and just discuss the details of what bin week it was and if they had asked the NDN to put it out. It is these dull conversations that keep marraiges fresh Grin

Chottie · 29/11/2019 15:05

Also he loves car cleaning stuff i.e. toothbrushes and special cleaners for the alloys, black stuff for the tyres. He even has a special 'car hairdryer' to dry off the water droplets from the car, so he doesn't have a streaky finish before polishing.

spiderlight · 29/11/2019 15:05

Board games. He's off work today and is currently sitting upstairs playing through a new board game by himself.

Adventcandles · 29/11/2019 15:05

He's home early from work. Apparently, as he was walking up the street, our neighbour called over "well- have you seen it yet?" and shook her head in awe or disgust (DH couldn't tell which as she was across the street)

In the space of ten minutes he has asked me
1)if I've bought an Advent calendar yet (didn't think he knew what the things were prior to now)
2) if I would like a lavish cooked breakfast tomorrow morning (we have no cooked breakfast products in our house currently, save eggs and bread, which I've told him would be nice
3)what is for dinner tonight
4)would I like him to make dinner tonight
5)am I sure I want vegetable curry (yes its been in the slow cooker all day)

I have deflected all questions, ignored all hints, and told him that I look forward to getting anything I need at the Eurospar, TOMORROW.

I'm actually not sure how long I can keep this up for, I was going to wait until about fifteen minutes before it closes tonight before putting in a request for chocolate (and watching him move off the sofa like shit off a shovel) but I don't know if I can. He's now wandering about the house clutching a coffee and wondering mournfully how big the deli is going to be. There were rumours of Subway, but they were scotched a few weeks ago. DH loves a sandwich.

BarbaraOfSeville you are clearly someone's husband in disguise. I insist you stop infiltrating our thread and go walk the dog immediately Grin

God send him to the shop with a note and 20p for going put the guy out of his miseryGrin

BlastEndedSkrewt · 29/11/2019 15:14

@Span1elsRock & BarbaraofSeville - you are very lucky mine makes us all go to the ever exciting ScrewFix Live show every year

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/11/2019 15:17

We visited the services at Weatherby on what turned out to be their opening day. Poor bloke on the till said they had been rammed with people coming for a 'day out'. Do you have relatives in Yorkshire @Adventcandles?

mumderland · 29/11/2019 15:17

The recycling Hmm
He's so excited for Christmas because all the packaging the kids toys will come in bless him

WhoisitnowRalph · 29/11/2019 15:21

spiderlight that's hilarious.

My DH gets very excited about going to castles and museums, and try as I might to dredge up some interest, the thought of them makes me want to cry with hopelessness.

He also loves to hoover, an annoyance of mine (that perpetual obnoxious noise, ooooooooooooooooooo) that I have kept wisely silent about.

"Going to a lovely pub" is another one. It's nice to go for a meal, but standing there watching him drink a pint veeeerrrryyyy sllooowwwlllyyy whilst looking appreciatively around pointing out random rusty horseshoes for the sake of it bores me to death. I don't drink so I cant even get wankered to block out the pain.

Wondering what he would say I get excited about that bores him. Making jewellery probably.

recycledbottle · 29/11/2019 15:23

My DH loves watching news/channels from other countries even though you can't understand a word of what is actually going on half the time.

icemelting · 29/11/2019 15:26

Gas lands
Necromunda
D and D

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/11/2019 15:27

My husband works for a water company behind a desk, I constantly amazed by how much boring stuff about water and sewerage infrastructure he has absorbed.

This is not endearing.

pollyhampton · 29/11/2019 15:29

Oh @Adventcandles you HAVE to let him go. Poor man! Send him out with a tenner to spend on treats!

ReginaGeorgeous · 29/11/2019 15:30

Ahh OP I'm shamelessly placemarking to see if this shop lives up to expectations.

@CoffeeWithMyOxygen my DH also used to love Meter Reading Day. Always the first of the month. Poor bugger feels pretty redundant now we've had a smart meter.

Mine loves cricket. Any cricket. I had to sit through Canada vs Nigeria a few weeks ago. I didn't even know either of those nations had a cricket team. There was literally no one in the crowd. Dull dull dull.
