Incredibly dull things your husband gets excited about

Please tell me I'm not the only one?

We live in a village and have a bit of a drive to the nearest "proper" shops. Hence the excitement over the new Eurospar that has been built over the last few months, opening today.

DH has provided a running commentary on the development of this project, his approval of how they've blended the new construction nicely in with the facade of the listed building involved, his disgust at the choice of electricians used (he spotted their van) his excitement when he peered in the window and realised it's actually going to be a sort of split level effect...

Today I woke up in darkness to DH's head sort of floating above me in the morning gloom, and a hiss of "it's half six. The new Eurospar opens at seven"

I had to tell him that, according to Facebook, it opens at 12,and he will have to wait until tomorrow so we can visit it as a family. He was absolutely crestfallen, but I'm going to suprise him with an emergency need for chocolate later tonight. He will then be able to visit this new Mecca, and come back all puffed up like a pigeon, to report on its wonders. I imagine that once the excitement fades, he'll go back to his previous fixation, "what sort of shed shall we get next summer"

Concrete. For a few years he drove one of those readymix lorries and he has an endless supply of stories about concrete. It's thrilling, I tell you. Thrilling.

Telly - programmes and actual TVs. The price of them, the technology of them, the flatness, the inches, soundboard, surround sound etc. Zzzzzz.

monkeytennis97 · 29/11/2019 16:17

Flags.
I win..

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 29/11/2019 16:21

Cranes, how the work, break, and generally lift things. To be fair, it's his job to know this stuff to stop heavy loads squishing people but his encyclopedic knowledge of north sea cranes can get a touch tiresome. You know, when kids are little and you shout "oh look, cows"? He's like that except it's "oh look, a liebherr from 1974 with a blah blah blah blah blah......"Grin
Add to that his love of old cars, can you imagine our dinner table conversations??
Just as well I love him to bits.

JumpingFrogs · 29/11/2019 16:21

My husband regularly travels on the Eurostar for work. He has an app on his phone which tells him the maximum speed the train gets to in the tunnel. He compares it to previous journeys and sometimes texts me to share.
He insists on keeping the keys to the window locks that were on the windows we had replaced 5 years ago. You just never know when they come in handy.
In the days of paper utility bills he used to file them. When I persuaded him we really didn't need to keep them he agreed to shred them, but lovingly scanned each one onto the computer first. They dated back to 1983, for a house he had owned long before he met me. To the best of my knowledge he has never actually felt the need to nostalgically look at the scanned images, but it's nice to know he can do should he wish to.

Not quite monkey ....
In a moment of alcohol induced enthusiasm, DH allowed himself to be recruited to join the local bell ringers. DS and I have teased him mercilessly in the run up to his first foray "up the tower" (so many hours of fun to be had out of that statement)
Well the boots on the other foot now as DH is apparently "a natural" and regales us weekly on whatever they've been doing "up the tower"
He was asked to ring for Remembrance Day and almost combusted with pride

Thestrangestthing · 29/11/2019 16:24

Football, fucking mind numbing.

charm8ed · 29/11/2019 16:25

The weather.

Thestrangestthing · 29/11/2019 16:26

Not just watching, he plays for a team 3 times a week, he gets paid, but not much. He has been trying to get me and the kids to go watch for 8 years, tried it 3 times, was bored shitless

LoonyLunaLoo · 29/11/2019 16:30

DH never gets excited about anything especially actually exciting things. He’s a really fun sponge.

Have you let the poor man go yet??

MrsT1405 · 29/11/2019 16:37

We have several shared interests including rugby league, but cases really fascinate him. We do travel quite a bit but thr quest for the perfect case can go on and on and on and on...

SpringFan · 29/11/2019 16:40

The sodding compost heap and the garden shredder!!!
He even shreds stuff that is going to the Council!

VignetteStonemoss · 29/11/2019 16:42

My dh loves watching those 'How Do They Do It' programmes about how, for example, tyres are made.

He is also unreasonably excited about browsing the ScrewFix catalogue 😑

OutThereSomewhere · 29/11/2019 16:42

Match of the day
Match of the day2
The World Cup
The Six Nations
😴

VignetteStonemoss · 29/11/2019 16:43

Hadn't RTFT before posting but from browsing the first page or so I can see that the ScrewFix catalogue is high up many men's lists of exciting things to do 😂

SillyUnMurphy · 29/11/2019 16:44

Going to the dump.
Putting the bins out
Mowing the lawn
Month end (he’s an accountant)

Charley50 · 29/11/2019 16:45

Flight paths and landing gear

Ginfordinner · 29/11/2019 16:45

Reinstalling operating systems on laptops
Beer
Rugby ad infinitum

RedRec · 29/11/2019 16:46

Oh my days - the bell ringer "up the tower" Grin

Casander · 29/11/2019 16:49

This is so outing if anyone thinks they might know me on here but it was football, and all football related programs including sky sports news (on repeat)

But the latest obsession hobby is BNI, the networking thingy, he joined a few months ago and has found his people, he's even won a certificate and a trophy. He has an app and a little badge and a notebook and everything, I refer to it as his cultGrin it mainly seems to involve a lot of "networking events" going for cooked breakfasts

littlemissminor · 29/11/2019 16:50

at the moment, his obsession is stud walls, tape and jointing, and laminate flooring... it will change as his DIY projects change, but he is OBSESSED

littlemissminor · 29/11/2019 16:51

Oh, and I forgot insulation - it's a running project of his to insulate every centimetre of the house possible

Adventcandles · 29/11/2019 16:52

I took pity on him and let him go. DH's preferred manner of walking could be described as a slow amble, but he was out the door like fucking Shergar when I relented and told him we could do with more rice Grin

He came in glowing, report as follows. There was a lady giving out samples of seafood chowder, he scored one of the last little pots. Chowder is the proper fresh stuff, locally made and is going to be part of a meal deal costing £5. The car park is everything they hoped it would be. The deli is a thing of wonder, and as we're having a quiet day in tomorrow, he'll treat us all to a freshly made roll made by Denise, who was in the fifth form when he was in the first, went out with his brother, and was delighted to get a part time job as she's been at home with the kids for years. The ceilings are really high, and they've kept all the old cornicing. There is a display of local art and photography. The shop isn't as big as he thought, they've used the bit he initially thought would be the deli, for storage. They do Ella's pouches (we don't use them any more, but DD's purple pouch only hunger strike has stuck in his memory, and they didn't sell them in the old village shop at the time)

I think that's it. He said it was buzzing with people, some of whom he had not seen since they went and hid forever on the family farm post Leaver's Assembly.

It's a brave new world out there, I'm telling you. He came back with naice olives, some Spar's Own custard creams, and a sachet of mulled wine spice. And the rice. I'm obviously going to get it tonight, boom boom.

Roads, specifically motorways. Whenever we have a visitor from far away, as soon as they're through the door he wants to know exactly which route they took, and he then passes judgement on their decisions.

TinselAngel · 29/11/2019 17:32

I was in suspense to find out what the Spar would be like. Now I know it's a retail/ school reunion paradise, and everything he hoped for, I can settle for the evening!
