Diamond Advent Calendar

www.beaverbrooks.co.uk/advent

Anybody got one of these on their festive wish lists?

It sounds a lot of money, but as it very clearly states, you actually SAVE over £23K, so it's an indisputable bargain. It actually costs you less to buy it than NOT to buy it.... maybe....

Assuming you weren't allowed to liquidate the cash value immediately on receiving it, is it only me who would rather just have a normal £2 chocolate one. NO - in fact, as you're kindly offering, I'll have 50,000 chocolate ones Grin

That must be a pisstake... Surely?

HowlsMovingBungalow · 29/11/2019 11:39

If I had £100,000 to spend on diamonds and jewellery it wouldn't be spent in Beaverbrooks.

That calendar looks as cheap as fuck.

CoolCarrie · 29/11/2019 11:41

This was featured on This Morning last week, and it doesn’t look that great to me. I would prefer a single loose diamond every day for that money, then would use them in jewellery pieces I would design myself. Not keen on white gold or platinum either, I like the contrast of white diamonds and gold.

Yeah, i picked one up the other day for the kids. They need costume jewellery for the dressing up box, it will be fun for them

HowlsMovingBungalow · 29/11/2019 11:43

Most of the pieces are so dated. I reckon it's old stock they are trying to get shot of.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/11/2019 11:44

I suppose it would be interesting to hear an opinion from an independent jeweller as to whether the claimed values are reasonable.

CoolCarrie · 29/11/2019 11:45

I agree with you How, it really looks tacky, and not classy it’s got Gucci stuff in it,Very footballer wives.

Lllot5 · 29/11/2019 11:45

Saw this on Jeremy vine show this morning. Some of the bits are lovely wish I had a spare 100k laying about.

Autumntoowet · 29/11/2019 11:45

It saves you £23000, I am buying

HowlsMovingBungalow · 29/11/2019 11:48

The Gucci pieces are vile.

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/11/2019 11:55

As much as I love diamonds, it's just not to my taste. It's a bit tacky and old fashioned.

Iamthewombat · 29/11/2019 12:03

That is hilarious! Particularly the ‘worth’ bits. ‘Worth £3,500!’

According to whom? Anybody can recommend a retail price. It doesn’t mean that that’s what people will pay!

The poster who said they are probably clearing old stock is bang on, I reckon.

SouthernComforts · 29/11/2019 12:08

Weird mix of silver coloured and gold jewellery, I only wear one, not both, or is that just me?

FudgeBrownie2019 · 29/11/2019 12:12

If they were giving them away obviously I wouldn't turn it down, but as a non-jewellery lover none of the items in it scream "buy me". Wonder if we've any jewellery experts on MN who'd give an idea of how much it's really "worth".

ivfbabymomma1 · 29/11/2019 12:18

This is so pointless! If I had 100k to spend on jewellery it wouldn't be beaverbrooks! It includes 2 expensive ladies watches?! (Who needs 2) and I would rather pick my own stuff! 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/11/2019 12:22

Looks awful. I don't wear jewellery and diamonds don't interest me at all.

If I had £100k spare I can think of so many things I'd rather buy than this!

HowlsMovingBungalow · 29/11/2019 12:23

I worked in the Jewellery trade no expert but I would not touch that 'deal' with a bargepole.

Anyone who wanted to invest £100k in jewellery would not buy a tacky advent calendar with dated and poorly designed pieces. Gucci watch? NO THANKS! Grim! You would go for a Rolex or Cartier with £100k for starters.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/11/2019 12:37

I'm sure I read some time ago that diamonds aren't even particularly valuable or inherently rare in themselves. They're just naturally-occurring stones (very pretty ones, granted).

Allegedly, it was somebody from De Beers (I think) who owned some of the biggest mines and decided to market them as extreme luxury items and strictly control the supply of them to jack the price and desirability of them right up.

As has been said, I do think that if you had that kind of money available to spend on diamonds and jewellery, you'd probably want to actually choose which pieces you bought rather than open 24 drawers with contents costing an average of £4K each as if it was 50p on the bran tub at the local school fete.

Jesus. A few nice pieces but why so much Gucci tack?

Bezalelle · 29/11/2019 13:25

That has to be a case of shifting old stock!

MulticolourMophead · 29/11/2019 13:58

It includes 2 expensive ladies watches?! (Who needs 2)

I have several watches. I buy them from charity shops for the actual face/dial, then create my own straps in a variety of textures, colours, materials, etc. I mix and match with my clothing.

But I wouldn't have two expensive watches.

Meanwhile, I don't like the look of any of the pieces shown. For the money they're asking, and assuming I have that amount spare, I'd be looking for some nice vintage pieces.

iklboo · 29/11/2019 14:01

If I had a spare £100k I'd buy a house not a advent calendar!

AlternativePerspective · 29/11/2019 14:04

Having seen what jewellery goes for at auction and the second hand value of it I’m not sure if I’d ever actually buy diamonds again.

Also, I tried on a Gucci ring once, a long time ago. It was the most hideous thing I’ve ever seen.....

TheGirlFromStoryville · 29/11/2019 14:10

Tack-o-rama.
It's the type of thing I can imagine a footballer getting for his wife / girlfriend.

If I had £100k spare I would buy a few top notch vintage art deco pieces. Classier imo and far better quality.

Iamthewombat · 30/11/2019 16:52

Yeah, it has ‘Dawn Ward’ written all over it!
