What would you have for dinner if you were me?

Yes I'm aware it's not yet 10am Grin

DH is out tonight so it's just me (no DC). I've been good all week so quite fancy something treat-y. However, we're off out for dinner tomorrow night so I don't really want to spend more money ordering something in.

Usually on a solo Friday night I'd either do myself a homemade pizza or fling a supermarket one in the oven (and have a glass of wine) but we're going to an Italian tomorrow night so I'd rather not double up!

Will be going home past a big supermarket so figured I'd pick something up en route home.

What would you plan for dinner if you were in my shoes this evening?

If i have a little to spend, my go too alone meal is a beautiful steak, with garlic butter mushrooms and sweet potato fries .. definitely along with a Wine

Have a lovely evening, sounds bliss!!

Fish, sea bass or salmon maybe, quick and easy. Have it with some salad leaves or microwaved green vegetables. Get a lemon mousse for pudding!

Good quality crusty bread, good olives, good cheese, maybe some gruyere. THEN Tony’s chocolonely.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 29/11/2019 10:05

Steak and chips with wine and a GU dessert for after

Lipperfromchipper · 29/11/2019 10:06

I would make myself a quick ramen style dish with prawns and veggies.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/11/2019 10:10

My go to home alone dinner is gambas a la pil pil with crusty bread. Maybe with crisps and/or olives. And cava or a big G&T.

Gently fry a couple of finely sliced garlic cloves in olive oil and add however many big prawns that you want. When the prawns are cooked, add about half a teaspoon of smoked paprika (or hot, or you could add a bit of chilli if you like). Serve with the bread to mop up the oil.

Totally delicious, dead easy and takes about 5 minutes, if that.

coralisland · 29/11/2019 10:10

A salmon fillet (or two if you're feeling greedy), some new potatoes and some green veg. I'd probably be super lazy and get the prepackaged potatoes that have herby garlic butter 🤤

Erismorn · 29/11/2019 10:19

Moules mariniere with crusty bread and an icy cold decent white wine. Followed by chocolate mousse. You can cheat and get the boil in the bag pre prepared mussels!

CalmDownConan · 29/11/2019 10:22

Greenglass has it, but I'd swop the olives for pate. Enjoy OP!

BrutusMcDogface · 29/11/2019 10:23

Wow, the world is your oyster! I’m so jealous!

You could cook yourself something lovely; I must admit I’d probably use the child and partner free time to either listen to music or watch Netflix and cook some veggie curries/chillis to put in the freezer (eating most of it as I go along....!)

You’ve already said no takeaway, though, and that would most likely be my plan!

Spied · 29/11/2019 10:24

I'd go simple
Vegetable soup
Crusty bread
Ice-cream or doughnuts to indulge.
Enjoy your evening.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/11/2019 10:26

Hummus, taramasalata, feta, warm pitta breads with crisps and wine

nowlook · 29/11/2019 10:29

I'd bake a whole camembert and eat it with a baguette. All of it.

Dollywilde · 29/11/2019 10:35

Oh god this was a terrible idea - I'm already starving Grin

Thanks for all the suggestions! I am very keen on the idea of doing some sort of mezze with bread/cheese/olives etc. I think I'm so used to proper cooking (queen of the batch cook!) that I didn't think about just getting lots of yummy things to stick on a plate...

Would love to think this will stop me doing the 'dithering by the chiller cabinet' thing at 6pm but it's actually given me too many ideas - what's the betting I'm going to wind up leaving the supermarket having spent more than if I'd just got a takeaway!

Also the yummy cheese/pate stuff is a good shout - we've been TTC for a while and I'm a little grumpy today, so all the non-pregnancy-friendly foods are probably balm for the soul...

BrieAndChilli · 29/11/2019 10:38

Baked camembert, crusty bread and veg sticks with onion chutney

BrutusMcDogface · 29/11/2019 10:39

Oooh yes, I agree actually- posh crisps, dips, deli type stuff is also one of my favourites. If you’re already the queen of the batch cook then totally ignore my idea!!

camelandsushi · 29/11/2019 10:44

@nowlook totally my plans for tonight GrinGrinGrin not even going to feel bad when I drink the full bottle of rouge too!

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/11/2019 10:46

Scampi, chips and mushy peas.

Frownette · 29/11/2019 11:21

@nowlook I went to the supermarket after your post, and had camembert and French baguette for brunch!

Butterymuffin · 29/11/2019 11:24

Cheese, cold deli meats, bread and olives. No need for actual cooking then!

Bouledeneige · 29/11/2019 11:37

I would probably go houmous, taranasalata, folded breads, falafel and salad route or go buy a chicken tikka masala from Waitrose.

Dollywilde · 29/11/2019 11:45

Haha @BrutusMcDogface I'm probably overstating it! We both work silly hours though and I tend to enjoy cooking on a Sunday, so I'm just keen to avoid defrosting another spag bol/chicken casserole etc for a change this eve Grin

Go to your local butcher and ask for a really nice fillet steak for one that would be a nice treat and be smug at high welfare standards and supporting a local business.. that's what I do anyway!

rararaspberry · 29/11/2019 12:20

I came here to say camembert, bread and chutney. I see someone beat me to it
