Which are in Copenhagen (hotel)?

Hi

I’m going to Copenhagen on my own for a few days, for the Christmas Markets. Never been before & was just wondering where abouts is the best area to stay to walk back at night on my own.

I know it’s generally considered a safe city, and I’ve travelled a lot, but I was in Cologne a few years ago when the rape/abuse attacks happened and I’d just like to be somewhere not too isolated because I want to feel I can enjoy the evenings without worrying about getting back.

Bloody menopause (and cologne attacks I guess) I never would have worried much in the past!

If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks.

Sorry about the title, it should be ‘which area in Copenhagen’? 🙄

No one with any advice?!

Sorry, I don't know where the markets are. Copenhagen felt incredibly safe to me as a woman.

We stayed in Sudhavn which is not right in the centre but on the metro. For me I’d rather be close to the metro (which I’ll probably have to use wherever I stay) than further away in a nice area.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 27/11/2019 15:48

I stayed in Hotel Kong Arthur. It was lovely and not too far out.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/11/2019 15:51

Someone on another thread about Copenhagen recommended this
www.steelhousecopenhagen.com
It's a hostel but has excellent facilities.

JassyRadlett · 27/11/2019 16:04

Whatever you do don't stay at the Hotel Osterport.

I know it warned of train noise but I could almost reach out and touch the trains from my window.

They start at 4.30.

midsomermurderess · 27/11/2019 16:17

I stayed at Wakeup Copenhagen, Borgergade. It's central, near Kongens Nytorv, and really rather nice.

BestOption · 27/11/2019 16:18

Thank you for the replies.

@disfirdarkchocolste. Thank you for that, it’s good to know you felt safe. The Markets are in several places - I’m not too worried about how far the hotel is from anyone of them in particular, just hotels that feel safe & nice to walk back to at night 😊 A few people have said to stay away from the central station & to watch out for the RLD. I guess somewhere that there are restaurants still open and people around is all I’m looking for really.

The Steelhouse does look good but there aren’t any single/double rooms left and I’m not keen to share a 4/6/8 bed dorm though it’s definitely one of the nicer hostels I’ve seen. And I’ve seen a LOT. It’s not the other people that bother me, more my own embarrassment at snoring & using the bathroom. Plus feeling OLD when the 20 somethings pile in I feel like I’m intruding

@TheUnquestionedAnswer. Thank you. I was looking to be a bit closer in than that, but I’ll keep it in mind

I’d rather pay a little more and not need to get the metro into the centre.

I can second the Hotel Kong Arthur having stayed there in March. It really didn't feel far out at all not least because the public transport system is amazing.

BestOption · 27/11/2019 16:36

@Disfordarkchocolate. That hostel looks amazing...I’m somewhat tempted...

@JassyRadlett. I’m a bit of a train geek. I find the mouse quite comforting. I’m somewhat tempted! Other than the train noise (poor you) how was the location?

@midsomermurderess. That’s one of the ones I was considering. I nearly booked it yesterday, but thought I’d see if I could get some opinions on the various areas. If you seem to think it’s an ok location to walk back to at night in my own I might see if it’s still available.

@hanahsaunt. Thank you I really would like to just be right in the middle of things & not have to get transport or walk further out. I have an issue with my knee and I think all the walking I’m planning on doing will be a lot to manage anyway - I’d rather not add much simply getting from the hotel into the very centre. But thank you 😊

I didn't feel there was anything alarming about the area and I like that it was pretty central and close to a metro etc.

midsomermurderess · 27/11/2019 19:27

Hotel Kong Arthurr is also central, it's not out in the sticks.

NewLaptop · 27/11/2019 19:32

Danhostel Copenhagen City is another hostel. It's well located and good value. Near the station (but not hearing distance), on pe bus ride from airport, walking distance from always anywhere and usually really good value. You can book a private room. Beds a bit in the firm side though.

SeaSidePebbles · 27/11/2019 19:36

I stayed at Hotel Sct Thomas. 10 min walk from Tivoli. Quite a nice place. I love Copenhagen, enjoy.

RedRosie · 27/11/2019 19:40

I don't know how much you have to spend OP? This is a fantastic hotel: www.71nyhavnhotel.com/ very safe, central and with a fabulous breakfast. I love Copenhagen.

NewLaptop · 27/11/2019 19:40

Website here: danhostelcopenhagencity.dk/en
It's virtually next to the Tivoli Gardens (no idea if Tivoli is open in December though)

Batinahat · 27/11/2019 19:44

I stayed at Admiral Hotel in Copenhagen and would recommend it very much. It was central and felt fine walking back there at night. It was very close to royal palace and associated security which I liked. Also views of water. We did a brilliant walking tour which included Christiana which I recommend visiting if social history interests you.

SaintEyning · 27/11/2019 19:45

I stayed at the Guldsmeden Babette which was close to museums, park and the touristy port but not too close. On a nice busy main road, we walked / used their bikes to go everywhere.

BestOption · 28/11/2019 08:13

Thanks all!

@Batinahat

Yes, I think I’ll go to Christiana & will
probably do a walking tour rather than go by myself. I feel a bit weird about going though, as I’m sure the local must hate everyone going to gawp.

We stayed in the Admiral Hotel which is right on the water and very close to Nyhaven canal. It was excellent.

We stay at the Admiral usually. It’s very safe and near Nyrhaven.
The other place we stayed at was the Radisson in Fredericksburg which was close to metro, in a very safe suburb.

AnnaMagnani · 28/11/2019 08:33

Copenhagen is very very safe. Everyone, absolutely everyone speaks English, female equality is light years ahead of where it is in Germany.

They also have a much harder line on immigration (which is quite controversial) which is basically assimilate into Danish culture or get out, with a series of right wing governments pushing this line.

It's a very different political place to where Germany was in 2015.
