it's "teal" and it's £150 cheaper than the black one....

Looks fine to me!

LemonGingerCakes · 26/11/2019 14:26

Who for? I would imagine it would be classed as a 'female' colour (as much as I hate saying that).

somebrightmorning · 26/11/2019 14:31

son

Absolutely fine.

“Female colour” Hmm If people keep saying it, it will keep being a thing. No such bloody thing as me or female colours.

This bike colour is totally fine for a boy (or a girl).

VodkaRevelation · 26/11/2019 14:34

*male, not me!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 26/11/2019 14:37

I really like this and my male DP would happily ride it

BarbaraofSeville · 26/11/2019 14:38

I like it, DP has had a bike in a similar colour, it must be 'in'.

It doesn't say it's a women's bike, which probably means its designed for more typical men/boys proportions.

As long as it's happy with the colour, get him that one. No good getting him that colour just because it's cheaper if he hates it, but if he's not bothered, it's a good lesson in getting more for your money by choosing cheaper options where the differences are in consequential.

Plus if it's in an unpopular colour, there's possibly the slightly lower chance of it being stolen.

LemonGingerCakes · 26/11/2019 14:41

The op asked for opinions 🤷🏽‍♀️

Female colour” hmm If people keep saying it, it will keep being a thing. No such bloody thing as me or female colours.

You might say that, I might say that, but it’s irrelevant if you send your sone out on something and other kids don’t have that point of view (have learnt the hard way).

VenusClapTrap · 26/11/2019 14:42

My ds loves that colour. And my Dh has just bought a teal cycling jacket. So I can’t see a problem.

Lindy2 · 26/11/2019 14:44

It's a nice colour.

Fine for a male or female. I wouldn't even have questioned it.

somebrightmorning · 26/11/2019 14:44

it's not a woman's bike, no.

I'm quite surprised that teal would come across as for a woman! pink I could understand.

Maybe you are Victorians and I am corresponding across time :)

Hi friends tend to wear quite loud single colour high-quality shorts or t-shirts so I'm not too worried about breaching gender stereotype rules.

somebrightmorning · 26/11/2019 14:45

He'll need some cycling gear that matches it! no orange!

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 26/11/2019 14:45

Only your son can answer that I'm afraid. What a bunch of middle-aged Mumsnetters think should be the answer is irrelevant.

HerrenaHarridan · 26/11/2019 14:48

Yes but rather than wallpapering your kids to make them fit in with the bullshit teach them the language to stand up to it.

Model that so it seems normal.

My 7yo dd rocks a pixie cut. We moved to a new estate and within hours of her playing out in the garden the kids were asking was she a boy or a girl. When she replied she was a girl they asked why she had short hair then she responded ‘my mum says I can have my hair however I want’

She is regularly mistaken for a boy and isn’t phased in the slightest because I have never made a big deal out of it.

If you know your son will love a turquoise bike get him one and help him stand by your choices.
If you know he is going to feel awkward and embarrassed riding it then don’t waste your money.

As a compromise how about encouraging him to cover it in stickers which will break up the color and diminish its resale value and therefor likelihood of theft.

HerrenaHarridan · 26/11/2019 14:49

Stand by HIS choices

CMOTDibbler · 26/11/2019 14:54

Teal is the same colour as my DHs road bike, and if my ds didn't have a very clear message on his bike colour scheme (black, red, white to be precise including his new found love of Castelli) he'd happily ride that

Houseyhousey · 26/11/2019 14:57

14 year old ds (off sick) said he'd rather have another colour if that helps!

ExCwmbranDweller · 26/11/2019 15:09

Mountain biking fashion is all big colour, I love it. Looking at similar for my DS although not going quite that high spec as he's still growing.

RedPandaFluff · 26/11/2019 15:11

If your son is into mountain biking he will probably really like that colour, @somebrightmorning - there's a real trend for it at the moment. Have a look at the Santa Cruz and Specialized bikes and you'll see lots of teal, aqua, yellow etc.

Out of interest, did he choose this bike himself? I'm wondering why a hard tail when you can get a full-sus for a similar price? (Calibre Bossnut, for example).

MamaRaisingBoys · 26/11/2019 15:14

The price looks the same as the black one?

NotMeNoNo · 26/11/2019 15:15

It's fine if your child likes it. Good grief. Colours aren't male or female. Believe me if it was aimed at girls it would be impractical with streamers and pink butterflies.

Pan2 · 26/11/2019 15:16

Bianchi are a very large-selling bike producer of decades standing. Well used on the pro circuit.

The classic colour for a Bianchi is not so far from that colour. More aqua-green but still in the same area.

It's beautiful.

avocadochocolate · 26/11/2019 15:16

I have a man's bike in a similar colour.

LemonGingerCakes · 26/11/2019 15:17

Yes but rather than wallpapering your kids to make them fit in with the bullshit teach them the language to stand up to it.

You can do both. After all, they are the ones going to be going out and getting comments (or not). Their choice whether they can be bothered to face them or not.

Pan2 · 26/11/2019 15:20

Those bikes referred to above as owned by family will probs be Bianchis.
