Anyone else working Christmas Day?

TravellingSpoon · 21/11/2019 15:35

Got my rota today and am working a long day on Christmas day. Am off Boxing day and then working NYE and NYD. I am not too upset as I get double time for Christmas Day and NYD.

Anyone else?

Yes - but given my user name, perhaps that's not surprising!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2019 15:52

Oo thats harsh. We have to do two unsociable shifts. But do either Christmas or new year. Not both.

Treq · 21/11/2019 15:55

Yep luckily only 9am-1pm but no extra pay Sad

Yes I work In supported living and working a Christmas Day sleep into Boxing Day. So 130pm to 1the next day. I will be able to start a little later and finish a little earlier though seen as it's Christmas!

TravellingSpoon · 21/11/2019 15:58

No extra pay @Treq. That is really harsh!

No but am on NYE and NYD :(

raspberrymolakoff · 21/11/2019 18:25

When you say you're doing Christmas Day and New Year's Eve AND day you surprise me as in my experience most hospitals (I'm assuming you're a medical professional) have their staff do Christmas Day or NYE (night shift) not both. Perhaps you should bring this to the attention of the rota supervisor.

Likethebattle · 21/11/2019 18:26

@tashakg89 my friend does the same job as you she is in sleepover on Christmas Eve I til 11 on Christmas Day. Her husband (same job different company) is working from early Christmas morning till the evening.

chatnicknameyousuggested · 21/11/2019 18:27

Yep. I work in law and will be at the courtsall day, as someone has to be always on duty.

Bargebill19 · 21/11/2019 18:27

Yes working all Xmas and new year. Basic pay.

chatnicknameyousuggested · 21/11/2019 18:28

I will be doing 8h to 20h.

AnyFucker · 21/11/2019 18:29

Not this year but I have in the past.

I hate Christmas anyway

Layoverlife · 21/11/2019 18:35

I'm working, Xmas eve Xmas day, and Boxing Day 12 hour shifts it'll probably go over that because of the time of year and hospitals at full capacity.

Off New Year's Eve but back on shift New Year's Day night... 😐

Ambulance Service 🚑

LolaVsPowerman · 21/11/2019 18:36

I work in supported living too, 16.30 Christmas Eve until 12pm Christmas Day for me. And 7am-11am New Years Day. Double pay for all of those hours.

I don’t like Christmas, or New Year, and DD will be with her dad this year so I’d rather be in work than moping at home!

666onmyhead · 21/11/2019 18:36

Yup - farm so doing everyone else's work too .

TravellingSpoon · 21/11/2019 18:38

Social care rather than healthcare in an extremely short staffed service unfortunately.

I've managed to get Christmas Day off but am doing 12 hours Christmas Eve & Boxing Day; then a 7-1 NYE and 12 hour NYD Wine

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 21/11/2019 19:28

Yep. Off Xmas eve. Late shift Xmas day, late Boxing Day. Off NYE and NY day. We all work half shifts over that period unless someone has specifically requested long days.

Livingthedream12345 · 22/11/2019 07:07

I'm not working. I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that do. I've had to use emergency services on Christmas day in the past and was so grateful. Flowers

RoxytheRexy · 22/11/2019 10:03

Night shift on Christmas Day so start at 7 and finish at 7 on Boxing Day morning. I’m an ITU nurse. Doesn’t bother me. Open the presents with the kids, eat, sleep, work. Not too bad

myusernamewastakenbyme · 22/11/2019 10:12

Retail here....working xmas eve till 4pm then off xmas day...boxing day and the 27th...back in on the 28th.

Doormat247 · 22/11/2019 10:12

My partner has to work Xmas day, Boxing Day, NYE and New Year's Day. This is the second year he's worked there and the second year he got all the shit shifts, but it's just how his rota falls.
He's in the emergency services so has no choice in the matter.

He's planning on putting his foot down next year and saying no as we'll have our baby's first Xmas and he doesn't want to miss out on it. I'm not really bothered as it's not like she'll remember any of it.

If I had the choice I'd probably work but we can't work bank holidays in my job.

footphobic · 22/11/2019 10:21

My 19 year old dd started a job in healthcare with the elderly this year and has just had her rota. She’s doing a late on Christmas Day, plus an early NYD so will get the eve and is off NYD which she’s happy with. She was prepared to be in on Christmas Day though hoped for an early but can still do gifts in the morning and will just move Christmas Day lunch to Boxing Day instead when she’s off.

It will feel a bit odd not having her here, but part of the job. As Livingthedream12345 says, thanks to all that do have to work these days. Enjoy your well deserved time off 🎄

Suzie0003 · 22/11/2019 10:25

I work for the NHS, 1.30-7.30 on Xmas day, and working until 9pm both Xmas eve and boxing day

Nottobesoldseparately · 22/11/2019 11:09

I used to work in a pub Xmas Day. In fact, I'd specifically request it, along with Xmas eve and new years eve.

My work now close on Xmas eve and reopen in the new year, however DH is in the fire service so we cant take advantage of the full break. He's not working Xmas day this year though for the first time in years so we plan on getting really merry at my mum's!
