Minor rules you'd bring in with far reaching consequences

What seemingly minor rules would you introduce that could make a bug difference?

I'd make it illegal to sell coats (for any age) that didn't have some kind of reflective strip somewhere on the back and on at least one sleeve. On these dark mornings and early evenings I've lost count of the number of pedestrians, dressed in black or other dark colours, ambling across the road (not at a crossing point), oblivious to the fact they are nearly invisible to oncoming traffic.

I think if this was a unilateral rule, clothes designers would rise to the challenge to make stylish coats with flashes of reflective stuff. It could quite cool.

So what would your minor rules be?

FFS. A big difference. Not a bug difference. I have no interest in bugs.

I like that idea op.

I'd also make it impossible for vehicles to turn without first indicating.
I have no idea how, that's for the clever people.

sparklefarts · 20/11/2019 21:04

(That was my lighthearted response / my serious response involves single use plastic banning, bleach banning etc etc all kinds of environmental saving)

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/11/2019 21:04

Bikes with lights fitted (terrifying sight this evening of cyclist in black coat, no lights on the A road leaving town in the countryside- with bags hanging off handlebars and no helmet)

The road my DC school is on being one way. It's a narrow Victorian street with cars parked along both sides and not many passing places- so cars are having to reverse back into gaps, manoeuvre into tight gaps etc while children appear from all directions. Unfortunately we drive because we live outside of town but we'll aware we contribute to the problem

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/11/2019 21:07

All vehicles Wil be modified so that if you sit there with your engine idling for more than 30 seconds when not in moving traffic, the fumes are redirected into the driver's face.

Fakeflowersaremynewnormal · 20/11/2019 21:08

Dog licence and you have to pass an exam on dog care to get it.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 20/11/2019 21:09

Excellent idea Bursars. I've just got back from a quick trip to the supermarket where I nearly ran over an 'unlit' pedestrian who decided to dash across the road while my focus was on the other cars. My heart is still racing!

AgnesNaismith · 20/11/2019 21:17

Breathalyser test before the car will start, cameras on every car to stop dodgy insurance claims.

A ban on holiday companies increasing their prices over school holidays - or if they must, let it be by 5-10% only. It would allow children to travel, learn and grow with their families more.

Professional sport played by women to be publicised as much as men....and for it all just to be called ‘sport’.

Licenses to own dogs that need to be renewed every 5 years.

Purpletigers · 20/11/2019 21:22

License to have children

Cismyfatarse1 · 20/11/2019 21:25

Chewing gum reformulated so it dissolves or turns to powder.

Far too much on the pavements!

BursarsDriedFrogPills · 20/11/2019 21:27

MacavityTheDentistsCat yes! That's exactly how it is! I'm in no way a reckless driver, I also cycle in town so I think I'm quite attuned to the needs of other road users. But when I'm on my bike I go big on the high vis. I don't understand why pedestrians also don't want to be seen!

Automatic lights in cars that come on at the back as well as the front and are always on. It's a stupid design flaw that renders cars invisible in the rain. I would also heavily fine stupidity on the road like driving in the middle lane when the inside lane is empty. Angry

AgnesNaismith · 20/11/2019 21:28

License to have children

Yes

tectonicplates · 20/11/2019 21:29

No - chewing gum banned entirely. Far too much of it in use in the first place. A chewing gum ban would reduce stress for everyone else who would no longer have to put up with such an disgusting habit.

CherryCheezcake · 20/11/2019 21:32

OP, did you know that in Estonia it is the law that pedestrians have to wear or carry something reflective at night in winter? www.visitestonia.com/en/why-estonia/reflectors

Fantababy · 20/11/2019 21:34

A designated buggy space on buses. Not at the expense of the wheelchair space, as well as. A lot of parents travel on buses and are often treated like second class citizens. It's not always practical to fold.

Squigean · 20/11/2019 21:34

When people stop at traffic lights they stop at a sensible distance from the car in front, they blumming stay there. None of this stop then repeatedly edge forward nonsense.

(This is one of the minor things that irritate me daily!!!)

BursarsDriedFrogPills · 20/11/2019 21:36

CherryCheezcake no I did not know this!

OP posts:
Fantababy · 20/11/2019 21:37

Also, no eating on public transport (for journeys of an hour or less). It would keep the place much tidier. Fair enough if people weren't disgusting, but far too many many are. I'm pretty sure food and drink is banned on the subway in Hong Kong and it's immaculate.

BursarsDriedFrogPills · 20/11/2019 21:37

People saying licence to have children, I agree that this would have far-reaching consequences but I'm not sure it meets the definition which I made up of a minor rule...?

Ladies jeans to have decent-sized pockets.

People who went to Eton will be prohibited from entering a career in politics.

All people with small yappy dogs will be obliged to record the yapping, and have it played back to them at full volume on a loop via headphones, 24 hours a day. Actually, it doesn't need to be all of them, if you just make it my NDN I'll be happy.

BursarsDriedFrogPills · 20/11/2019 21:38

Totally with you on this Fantababy

No eating or drinking in theatres during the performance.

BursarsDriedFrogPills · 20/11/2019 21:40

People who went to Eton will be prohibited from entering a career in politics now this is really worth serious consideration egontoste
