Minor rules you'd bring in with far reaching consequences

What seemingly minor rules would you introduce that could make a bug difference?

I'd make it illegal to sell coats (for any age) that didn't have some kind of reflective strip somewhere on the back and on at least one sleeve. On these dark mornings and early evenings I've lost count of the number of pedestrians, dressed in black or other dark colours, ambling across the road (not at a crossing point), oblivious to the fact they are nearly invisible to oncoming traffic.

I think if this was a unilateral rule, clothes designers would rise to the challenge to make stylish coats with flashes of reflective stuff. It could quite cool.

So what would your minor rules be?

All buildings with walls that could be pissed on must be painted (retrospectively) with that paint that splashes urine back up onto the legs of the offender.

If you get caught texting while driving, you are banned from diving for one year.

No walking whilst reading your phone especially up and down steps

As an amendment to the PP who wanted all women's clothes sizes to be the same in every store; I'd like them to simply have the measurements.

So dresses would be marked with 30inch waist, 35inches in length or whatever. I have no idea why we have these arbitrary sizes when we could have accurate measurements instead.

Give cashiers in Lidl and Adi the right to physically move shoppers packing at the till over to the bench.

Those who can keep up, no problem. Just the laggards who delay everyone else and break the system.

People, who are young and able to stand, who remain sat in a seat while elderly person struggles to stand on bus, to be booted off bus at next interval.

Free milky buttons and toys given on buses to children to keep the little - - shits - - darlings, quiet and allow others peace and quiet

Universal free WiFi.

Harsher penalties for DV

Proper training for bus company personel so that when buses are diverted they can give proper information to customers as where to go

Free, council run parenting classes mandatory for every parent from pre birth to 3 years. Will cover nutrition, first aid, boundaries, socialisation, emotional development, etc. Free but optional classes thereafter. Classes held weekly, and at varied times in local community centres or similar, accessible by all. So many people have a lack of basic knowledge around first aid, nutrition, literacy etc (possibly through their own childhood) which builds vicious circles.

Lower thresholds for accessing SS support, to intervene when things can be changed, and proper support. Lower thresholds for removal when parents refuse 5o engage. The younger a child is removed from an abusive and chaotic home environment, the better that child's outcomes are likely to be

Madein1995 · 23/11/2019 18:30

The last point is controversial, I get that. But when you see the damage that late intervention does to a child, their mental health, emotional wellbeing and future prospects, it's hard not to feel angry.

Through volunteering (years ago) I literally heard a case where parents were drug addicts (heroin) but they agreed with SS to 'take it in turns'. Eg Monday one parent wouldn't use and could look after child, and next day would swap. Even if you ignore the fact that opiate addicts can't just not use for a day anf be fine, think of what the child is exposed to - needles, drugs, blood, dealers, paraphernalia. Add in the fact that not using for a few hours puts addicts in withdrawal - if someone's vomiting and diarrhea and shaking, how well equipped are they to mind a child? How realistic is it to expect them not to use?

I would like the cost of energy to be reduced. Nobody should be cold.

Abolish the tv license.

Increase the nmw, especially for under 25s.

Increase the old age pension.

Less private lets, mores council houses. Cheaper housing completely tbh. A home should be to nest, not to invest.

lifeonaloop · 23/11/2019 23:10

Sorry mine aren't minor. 🙈

Cars will be able to tell the following which will result in immediate fines.

Driving over the speed limit when it's heaving down with rain.
Sitting in the middle lane
Being on your phone including hands free
General road wankers

Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple · 23/11/2019 23:23

All country lanes with no central marking to have automatic 30 mph limit
No expense of signage etc if national thing
Would make it safe to cycle, ride, walk along lanes without being taken out by loons driving at 60 mph round blind bends because that’s the speed limit so you drive to it right ...

Bike helmets on kids a legal requirement.
