I'm doing a Christmas present for ds and partner, just moving into their new home.

I need some suggestions on the line of every home should have one.

Scissors, torch, batteries, candles, first aid kit, basic sewing kit, DIY tape measure and hammer.
I'll be spending about £100 in total.

I too also wonder about this as a Christmas gift if they are moving in right now - by Christmas, they'll have probably bought most of the suggestions as and when they've needed them, and if they haven't needed them, will they ever?

Maybe a voucher for Ikea, John Lewis, or whichever other household supplies shop that they're most likely to use would be most useful?

To add to the radiator key suggestion, Wilko does a multi-headed key that fits the 4 most common types of radiator.

If you are good at craft/DIY, I stained/painted/decorated the little Ikea Moppe drawers for DC as a gift when they went to uni, then filled the drawers with the practical type things you are suggesting.

Aw, there are some brilliant ideas.
The reason I'm doing it is because I know they have nothing yet, and are probably getting bits and pieces before they move, which will be after xmas now.
It's usually pj's for his gf, and money for ds.
There's a lot here that wasn't on my list, Thanks

I've never used wd40 in my life!
When I left home, I had absolutely nothing.
A friend bought me a set of 3 glass bowls that fitted inside eachother and had lids. I could store food in them, use them in the microwave etc, I couldn't afford an oven). The most useful gift I ever had.

FizzyPink · 19/11/2019 17:28

I’ll be honest as I’m decking out a first flat currently and I’d be so disappointed if my mum spent £100 on this. We’ve just been buying all these bits as we go and half the stuff being suggested I’ve not had a use for in 10 years of living in shared houses.
I’d much rather you ask me what I’d like and then spend £100 on something beautiful like a rug or mirror

Stapler
Blu-tack
Flat-headed and Phillips screwdrivers
Skewers
Extension lead
Expanding storage folder for paperwork
WD-40

Pizza cutter
Bottle opener

If you have those, all else is secondary Grin

One of the best housewarming gifts I've been given was a basket full of spices! Basic things like mixed herbs, paprika etc... but all the things that you need for recipes and can add up when you first have to buy them!

Drabarni · 19/11/2019 17:38

Turned

I'd rather them get those things themselves, tbh.
These little things, you can't go wrong really.
They haven't been getting things in, and are usually last minute.
I'm not sure they have colour schemes yet, apart from the kitchen is black and white.
It's a 3 bed semi, we live in NW so they got a big house for their money, with a huge garden. So they'll ned plenty of maintenance and DIY stuff.

The lists under Home preparedness advice in this brochure are excellent!
