I'm doing a Christmas present for ds and partner, just moving into their new home.

I need some suggestions on the line of every home should have one.

Scissors, torch, batteries, candles, first aid kit, basic sewing kit, DIY tape measure and hammer.
I'll be spending about £100 in total.

Ikea do a rechargeable torch that comes on in the event of a power cut.
At £8 a go you can do a couple for upstairs & downstairs.

PassMeAnotherCoffee · 19/11/2019 15:07

Mop and bucket, maybe one of those modern slimline ones that take up less space?

MaggieFS · 19/11/2019 15:08

I came on to say a cat. Not sure I'm in the right frame of mind for this practical thread. Grin. Lovely idea, OP.

newdeer · 19/11/2019 15:15

A step ladder. Or better still one of those telescopic ladders that extend really high. DH and I are forever borrowing our DIY King neighbour next door's stuff. I covet one of those ladders.

I do think that its a very sweet and thoughtful idea - provided the recipient really wants this.
If it was me, I'm sorry to say, I would absolutely hate this kind of gift mainly because when you have your new home, there might be something lovely they have their eye one like a lovely mirror for over the fireplace or a particular print/painting to frame and hang in the hall way.. if there was £100 on offer I'd much rather have the option of using that to put towards something beautiful. That would be something that would be more memorable for them and they'd remember it was from you.
If its their first home they probably have all kinds of ideas for decorating in their own personal taste. I'd be a bit fed up with lightbulbs and WD40, etc and it is so many bits and pieces. Sorry

CravingCheese · 19/11/2019 15:27

Bottle opener (preferable one of the combinations one that open wine, beer bottles and cans..)
A first aid kit
Stovetop coffee maker
A super large / extra warm blanket
Good casserole dish
Tea kettle
Water pitcher
Pastel and mortar

Witchend · 19/11/2019 15:48

Budgie!

runoutofnamechanges · 19/11/2019 15:51

I second the Ikea toolkit with the multi-tip screwdriver as invaluable and easy/space saving to store in it's box.

The Muji cleaning system is also great and another spacesaver - one telescopic handle that clips onto a microfibre mop heads/glass cleaner/brush (with dustpan)/duster/carpet lint remover or they can be used without the handle eg to clean mirrors/clothes etc. It's also about as stylish as you can get for a mop Grin

My mum did me a box of kitchen bits that you take for granted always being in the cupboard. Stuff like salt, pepper, bottles of condiments, basic spice rack, cooking oil, vinegar, flour, teabags, sugar etc.
