  1. you need a meat thermometer so you can check it is cooked.
  2. you need to cover it to stop it drying out.

otherwise, follow the Iceland instructions.

Personally I would always defrost though

Top result on Google

According to the USDA, yes, you can safelycookyourfrozen chicken, as long as you follow a couple general guidelines. In order to skip the thawing step and turn yourfrozen chickeninto a fully-cooked, safe-to-eat dinner, use your oven or stove top and simply increase yourcookingtime by at least 50%.

So really you could check that in 2 seconds. I've always cooked whole chickens from frozen, as it's just easier to buy in bulk and keep them in the freezer because I live so rurally. It's absolutely safe. They don't go dry, and they don't come out raw in the middle.

It's basically defrost time + cooking time and defrost time in a hot oven is less.
I buy my chicken from the butcher and freeze them now.
I do use a thermometer but it really is just cooking a very cold chicken.
I prefer a frozen chicken in the instant pot it stays chicken shaped but falls off the bone so easy (so you can get the mythical mnet 20 meals)
I switched over to frozen mince too. The Tesco one especially. Almost no water and can cook straight from frozen.
It was a revelation.

TheQueef · 17/11/2019 13:55

Oh and if the chicken is too big for the pot I break it's ankles with a rolling pin Grin

Hurdygurdy24 · 17/11/2019 13:56

The number of people on here with actually no idea but all shouting "don't do it". Really?

It’s ace. I think I will spend all afternoon finding forums where I can give advice on things I know nothing about and can’t be arsed to even google.

Op asked a question. The majority of replies are based on nonsense and complete rubbish.

What possible logic is there that cooking from frozen is an issue? Assuming you get the chicken hot enough it cooks and kills any bugs. I am confused as to why anyone would think differently

GeneHuntLover · 17/11/2019 14:11

I regularly cook full chickens from frozen and haven't killed anyone yet. I cook for about 1.5 hours on 100 and turn up to 180 for about the same. I don't have a meat thermometer, I cook until juices run clear as you would from non frozen

Raffles1981 · 17/11/2019 14:13

Put the chicken in a big bowl of cold (not hot!) water. It'll defrost quicker.

dottiedodah · 17/11/2019 15:41

Why not have Cheese on toast today, or pizza .Leave it to defrost O/N and have a lovely Monday Roast ! Please do not chance this esp with small children who can be really ill with food poisoining .

dottiedodah · 17/11/2019 15:45

I think the main reason being is that it is difficult to make sure the centre is cooked through thoroughly . It is surely always best to err on the side of caution surely ?

ifigoup · 17/11/2019 15:50

I can confirm that I roast chickens from frozen all the time and have never once been ill or made anyone else ill as a result. I actually think it’s much safer than having raw meat, or bowls or campylobacter-laden thawing water sitting around.

Spitsandspots · 17/11/2019 16:03

Not something I would do, my mother always stuffed frozen chicken in the oven though and managed not to kill us. Google advises to cook it for 50% longer than when defrosted

I wouldn't risk it

Risk what? It's no more dangerous than cooking fresh chicken. You're not risking anything. Meat thermometer should be used in both cases and once it's cooked, it's cooked. Doesn't matter how it started out. Its cooked!

FrogFairy · 17/11/2019 17:29

Teabagleftin beat me to it. If I needed to cook a chicken from frozen then I would use my instant pot pressure cooker and then check the temperature to be extra sure.

CatUnderTheStairs · 17/11/2019 19:06

We’ve just eaten, it was lovely. Thermometer said it was ready and it was v tasty.

I only cook from frozen when making a curry. Its a whole chicken but its already been skinned & cut into different pieces. I sweat the onions and tomatoes, pop the whole chicken in and on a low flame, pop the lid on and let it start to thaw out. I Check on it every 10 mins to see if I can break any of the pieces awa and add a small amount of water if the pan has gone dry. Once all the pieces have thawed out enough to separate and cook on all sides I add 1-2 cups of water lid on for the 1st half hour, low to medium flame. Then about another 45 mins lid of on medium to high. Whole process takes about 2 hrs.
