The writing that looks like ‘Ch Ch’ to me is the entry I’m interested in. This the parish from which the person was admitted, the next part is who ordered the admission

Any ideas?

I guess it could be a surname. I’ll have another look today and see what else I can find. I spent way too long on it yesterday, it’s addictive!

I think it’s Tre- looks like it could be a sloppy attempt at Trenowith which is a Cornish name, or perhaps a similar name

BabbleBee have you tried Rootschat? They have a section for deciphering old handwriting and the posters are really, really, good at it. They've helped me out a couple of times in the past.

I think that first letter is an H.

Haworth?

There are capital Hs in your post at 19:59:28, in the long list.
(Housewife, Factory Hd)

They look very similar to the mystery letter, imo.

My money's on Trenmouth, which is a surname although not a common one.

The T is the same as the one in Constable Thomas at the top of the other page. Plus I was taught formal handwriting at a school in Canada which then still used very old, very traditional English letter shapes. It's the same T I write (when I can be bothered to write properly, that is, instead of my everyday scrawl).

@SaskiaRembrandt no I haven’t, will check that out thank you.

If the Parish fits, and this is Christchurch part of Lewisham then I’ve filled a gap.

I just wish I could find out who the fathers of my grandfather and great grandmother were, but I think that information will never come to light.

If it does mean Christchurch then is the word underneath 'new' as in New Zealand?

Wintersnowdrop · 17/11/2019 08:56

Under Carlisle, could it be Master from Guys?

vdbfamily · 17/11/2019 08:56

my first thought was Trenwith, which is where Poldark came from!!

Flyingarcher · 17/11/2019 09:06

The bottom one reads to me as 'master from Guys' to me meaning Guys hospital. I think, therefore, that Carlisle, etc, must be names as location wise that would be daft if this is London.

BabbleBee · 17/11/2019 09:46

I can find the same wording for other entries, this is the clearest I can find.

Also, it would appear that she only has supper before being discharged to what I assume is South Hospital, she doesn’t stay there. She’s recorded as taking an infirm diet, but able bodied.
