What do you do if you wear glasses and want to swim?

I'm desperate to lose weight and the only form is exercise I enjoy is swimming. I have really bad eyesight and the thought of being without my glasses scares me.

How do I get to the pool? How do I see others in lanes/pool?

I can't wear contacts (specifically told not to do this by a professional) so not a case of I just can't put them in...

Sounds so silly, I know Blush

Take them off and swim without them - I don't need to see well to swim from one end to the other.

-9 in each eye here. Amazon prescription goggles mean I can see my way out from the changing room to the pool, see if there's anyone in the lane before I get in, see my key going in the padlock of the locker when I get out, and see my way to the showers after! Otherwise I'm fucked.

I wear my glasses but I don't tend to put my head under the water. I did go on a water slide wearing them last week though and they were fine

I 'm v short sighted (-11) and got some prescription Google s online ( prescription Google s .com) for about £20. I bought them for holiday as ds2 wanted to go to a waterpark, but they were a revelation. I used to swim a steady breaststroke in old glasses but wear the Google s all the time now.

Another vote for Goggleyed.co.uk got goggles for both my son and partner both are -9.

Pashazade · 16/11/2019 22:10

Sorry +9!

I have prescription goggles, cost about £18 from prescription Goggles .co.uk (correct web address about 12 posts up x

Ultimately I got round this by having laser eye surgery! Not to only be able to see in the pool I might add. But it was great for running and other sports too - I never got on with contacts.

I got prescription goggles from Speedo website for about £20, they were fab!

DulciUke · 16/11/2019 22:42

I just walk to the edge of the pool, put my glasses and flip flops and towel on a chair or convenient place and swim without them. Unless you are legally blind, you should be able to see if someone is in your lane just fine. Don't see the need to buy fancy goggles, but if it means that you are more likely to get in there and exercise, then go for it.

BestIsWest · 16/11/2019 22:43

I have speedo prescription goggles. They are great but I would really like varifocals so I can see my lap counter in the pool. Anyone seen these?

MigGril · 16/11/2019 22:53

DulciUke I wouldn't swim without googles anyway and as prescriptions ones arent any more expensive then most good one's. Then why wouldn't I get a pair to see where I'm going.

I love my prescription googles, couldn't swim without them. Great to be able to see what the kids are up to as well.

BreadSauceHmm · 16/11/2019 22:56

Oh wow I didn't realise you can get prescription goggles so cheap. Thanks for the suggestions on here.

Me too, but it's a longer-term fix, and isn't suitable for all prescriprions. It will also mean you can't swim for... I think it was 3 months. But I do remember the first time back swimming and the excitement of being able to see the far end of the pool - and on Bournemouth beach, seeing from the Needles to Old Harry Rocks and my bag on the beach when I was in the water.

OP

These go up to 20 and are individually made - but cost more, £70.
