Hello, my daughter had her 8 week jabs at 11 o’clock today. She has been ok but since 4- very unsettled and won’t let me put her down.
She is warm to touch but the thermometer saying ok.
I’m confused by the calpol advice: 3 doses every 5 hours apart after the jabs, no more than 3 times in 24 hours, for 2 days.
So she’s had 2 doses, I could give the third around 9pm then nothing overnight and start again tomorrow? Won’t her temp raise overnight?

Is it not just 3 doses in total? Dont think you continue it for a 2nd day

Thestrangestthing · 15/11/2019 19:33

What time did you give the first and second doses?

Shookethtothecore · 15/11/2019 19:33

They told me for 2 days? I won’t tho if her temp is fine, I just deffo only do 3 today? So I’ll leave it as long as possible now and give her another one say about 10-11 and try and get a few hours sleep? She seems worse now than after she had just had them

11.15 and 4.15 she had them

you should give it to her now if she seems unsettled, she won't necessarily spike a temperature overnight.

NamechangeWhatFor · 15/11/2019 19:35

It's only 3 doses, if her temperature is still high tomorrow then follow NHS guidance for temperature.

Shookethtothecore · 15/11/2019 19:35

Her temp is 37.8

sorry, I meant this evening not now

How much paracetamol should I give?

A total of three doses of 2.5ml (60mg) of paracetamol are recommended following MenB vaccination. You should give the first dose at the time of vaccination or as soon as possible afterwards. You should then give the second dose of paracetamol around four to six hours later and a third dose four to six hours after that (see table). The 2.5ml dose should be measured and given either using a syringe or with a 2.5ml spoon (this is usually the small end of the spoon that comes in the pack).

Ahh ok, I was worried if I give it to her now and she gets worse Later she can’t have anything else, it doesn’t work like that then?

Smotheroffive · 15/11/2019 19:36

You can hold off on the last dose to keep for if her temp rises in the night would be my plan. So long as she has no more than 3doses between the first dose after her jab today, and the same time tomorrow.

Hope she has a quiet night (and you)

anothernamejeeves · 15/11/2019 19:37

But giving the third dose in theory should prevent the fever

moobar · 15/11/2019 19:39

Op I was told the three doses as above. I overthink and asked exactly what you are raising, what if it spikes overnight. My hV said if three doses have been given and temp goes up call nhs 24 to give a fourth.

Now, realisticly, if it was say 4am and last dose had been 9pm I would have given it and not called.

Dd did as your baby has and was worse in evening but settled by bedtime.

dementedpixie · 15/11/2019 19:39

The above info is from an online leaflet about paracetamol after Men B jab. It also says:

What if my baby still has a fever after having had the three doses of paracetamol?

Some babies may still develop fever after vaccination, even after having three doses of paracetamol. In the 48 hours after vaccination, if your baby still has a fever but is otherwise well, you can continue to give your baby the same 2.5 ml dose (60mg) of infant paracetamol (120mg/5ml) suspension.

(You should always leave at least four hours between doses and never give more than four doses in any 24 hour period*

You should also keep your baby cool by making sure they don’t have too many layers of clothes or blankets, and give them lots of fluids.

Based on giving her last at qyr past 4, she can't have any more for another five hours at least, according to what you wrote from the instructions

dementedpixie · 15/11/2019 19:42

www.gov.uk/government/publications/menb-vaccine-and-paracetamol you can access the leaflet from this link

Youhavewonaprize · 15/11/2019 19:42

I was told 3 doses only, but could give a 4th if I was desperate. Then the advice was to call the gp/111 for advice. I had to do this a couple of years ago with DD1, they asked some questions then told me to give more calpol. Don’t give more than 3 or 4 doses at 8 weeks without talking to anyone first.

Remember a mild fever is a natural process of fighting infection (and a reaction to jabs), so don’t worry too much unless it gets very high or doesn’t come down after calpol. At this point you should use your judgment and call the appropriate number (gp/111/999).

Hope the calpol does it’s magic!

FenellaMaxwell · 15/11/2019 19:44

You can give 3 doses in this 24 hour period, and then you can give more if she still has fever. You just can’t give any doses closer together than 4 hours, and you can’t give more than the recommended amount for 24 hours. So the clock effectively resets at the same time she had the jabs the day before and you can start doses again as long as you leave 4 hours since the last dose.

dementedpixie · 15/11/2019 19:44

She can have a dose at 8.15pm or later if the last dose was at 4.15pm

Smotheroffive · 15/11/2019 19:44

No more than two doses!

According to calpol

What’s considered very high?

OP posts:
Shookethtothecore · 15/11/2019 19:47

I’ve stripped her off and she’s had a bottle and seems calmer. She’s still hot to touch but she’s been on me which isn’t helping so I’ve taken my jumper off so she’s skin to skin

dementedpixie · 15/11/2019 19:48

@Smotheroffive advice is different for after the Men B jab. 3 doses are to be given as standard

dementedpixie · 15/11/2019 19:48

Read the nhs links

AnyMinuteNow · 15/11/2019 19:51

Well it's either a safe does or isn't. All the rules change for injections Confused

Is it not dtp?
