Can anyone recommend the warmest waterproof coat for someone with raynauds?

North Face McMurdo parka. They're amazing. Also horrifically expensive, but I got mine £130 in a sale.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 14/11/2019 12:54

Thanks. I don’t mind the cost I just want to be warm Smile

Dh bought me a north face arctic parka on mums recommendation here
£360 but I got mine at a north face outlet for £216
It’s waterproof and wind proof. Lightweight. Down filling
I’m still going to need a cardigan on over my sleeveless dress or maybe a base layer underneath the dress and a cardi
Haven’t given it a full road test yet

Seasalt Janelle. Love mine!

SamBeckett · 14/11/2019 15:17

I feel your pain I have Raynauds too.
I have a Santa to bring me either a body warmer or a coat from the Milwaukee range it's actually have heating element built into run off batteries extortionately expensive but I don't care.
I can't post a link at the moment but I'll try remember to do it tonight

Livingthedream12345 · 14/11/2019 15:29

Check out didriksons coats. Super thick and warm

36degrees · 14/11/2019 15:52

Reynauds here too, with the added complication of allergy to feathers. I had a full length Jack Wolfskin jacket which was excellent but became less poofy over time and therefore stopped retaining heat as well. Now using a Seasalt full length coat with removable padded inner, nice and warm, with a lifetime guarantee but not very flattering. I'm looking for a shorter jacket for walking/more casual use so watching this thread with interest, I had a good ski jacket from Abercrombie and Fitch years ago but not found anything as good since.

AxolotlRose · 14/11/2019 15:55

Hello waves white fingers at the other Raynaud's sufferers I have a Mammut coat which has a removable inner shell and an outer wind and waterproof layer which I got in the sale for about £180. My job means I am outside in often crappy weather and I think having the double layer helps to trap the warm air inside. A long-sleeve thermal vest helps too but isn't very sexy Grin

8by8 · 14/11/2019 16:04

Seasalt here.

Most useful thing I’ve found though is cashmere fingerless gloves, worn all the time to stop cold air attacking my wrists. The ones from turtledoves.co.uk are thin enough you can put big warm ski gloves or mittens over them, are made from recycled cashmere, and have a good range of colours.

TheNestedIf · 14/11/2019 16:11

I'm impressed you can still move your fingers, AxolotRose. Sad I'm already feeling it and it's only 6C.

If cost is no object this is ridiculously expensive but brilliant.

I bought one just before a trip to Iceland this year and was willing to spend because I knew I'd suffer in the cold. I was able to stand outside for 1/2 hour to watch the Northern Lights in -5C, just with my hands in my pockets, no gloves.

MrsMallett · 14/11/2019 16:20

My daughter has raynaud’s (struggling to find things in smaller sizes, but that’s another story!) What about Uniqlo’s ultra light down (good insulation and thin enough to fit under another coat) or the newer battery heated gloves/body warmers/coats?

FabLaura · 14/11/2019 16:44

Regatta now sell battery operated heated jackets if that helps? Haven't tried them but saw the advert and didn't know these existed. A full on coat is £140 with 3 heat settings and can go in the washing machine. They're also waterproof

Frownette · 14/11/2019 16:51

Raynauds as well; what does everyone do about their toes?

MoodLighting · 14/11/2019 16:52

I got a Patagonia parka reduced to £99 from the skiing section in TKMaxx. It's a great place to buy very warm, waterproof coats.

sparkli · 14/11/2019 16:57

I love my full length Jack Wolfskin. Add a pair of knee length boots, hat, scarf and gloves and I'm cosy. Reynauds is awful and I have the added pain of being on blood thinners so I have really put my coat to the test!

For the feet I find it’s best to wear one thin pair of hiking socks, like the type sold for mountaineers, and then one more chunky wool sock on top. Sports and hiking shops are your friends.

Boots are better than normal shoes as they keep your ankle warmer - I used to find cold air was sort of sneaking in between my trousers and shoes.

JusticeForBarb · 14/11/2019 17:13

Any tips for good fleece jackets? Asking as my mum has reynauds and I wanted to get her a good one for Christmas 😊

TheNestedIf · 14/11/2019 17:14

For my toes, I tend to buy winter boots with a thick sole in a size up from my normal size, then pile on the socks. I usually buy Merrell but I have got a pair from IceBug which are meant to be protective down to -20C. They are quite heavy, though.

You can get heated socks as well. DP thoughtfully bought me a pair. The battery packs were rather chunky and they went through batteries like nobodies business so I haven't used them since The Beast From The East, but they did help.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 14/11/2019 17:30

Thankyou so much for everyone’s advice. I’ll take a look at what everyone has advised. Thanks again means a lot.

Agree with many of the above, also Craghoppers have some warm waterproof windproof coats.

SallyOMalley · 14/11/2019 17:39

Another shout out for Didriksons. The sleeves are really long too - very cosy! (I got mine in TKMaxx for £40!)

SilverySurfer · 14/11/2019 19:47

I don't have Reynauds but feel the cold, especially when I go out on my mobility scooter in the winter. I've looked at a lot of the suggested coats/jackets but they all seem to use a lot of polyester which I really hate or it hates me.

I also wouldn't buy a Canada Goose jacket because they use wild coyote fur on the hoods and there are serious concerns that the down they use could be from live plucked or force fed geese (for foie gras) whereas it should be a by-product of the poultry industry. (I'm a meat eater, free range only and am totally opposed to foie gras and real fur).

I guess I'll keep looking.

OddestSock · 14/11/2019 19:52

I picked up a craghoppers coat the other day. It is toastie warm (also a Raynaud's sufferer). It was half price in Debenhams

Greatnorthwoods · 14/11/2019 19:56

Anything from Carhartt!
