Period pants for DD

Ihatesundays · 10/11/2019 22:46

DD (11) has just started her periods. She isn’t getting on well with pads and it’s all a bit irregular but still fairly light at the moment.
I was thinking of getting her some period pants. They make me a little nervous as I have no experience (my periods are very short and very heavy these days so haven’t bothered).
Anyone got any good, relatively cheap suggestions. I don’t want to spend too much on the basis she’s growing.
Will a pair be a enough to do a day in school?

And any other sanitary suggestions. She’s using pantie liners at the moment as they are smaller than sanitary pads.

Try the lillets teen range of pads as they are smaller than the normal range

frazzledasarock · 10/11/2019 22:50

Try cheeky wipes, they’re reasonably priced, my DD uses them, says they’re brilliant.

Great. What’s the sizing like? I can see a lot do 4-6 which I think would be around sake as age 11-12?

The sizing is snug. If your dd is very slender than a size 4-6 otherwise I think next size up might be better.

Or speak to their customer services for help.

Ihatesundays · 10/11/2019 23:12

She’s tall and slim anyway so should be okay...

I use Cheeky Wipes ones and they are excellent. I've been getting braver and braver until I recently used just them for every day except the first two. They were brilliant. I will now be buying enough so I can just use them.

If you want 15% off this is my referer link. I would get £5 off towards my next lot.

Obviously other ones are available but these are my favourites. You will need a bag for her to put them in. I have a handbag one but need a laundry basket one too.

FridalovesDiego · 10/11/2019 23:18

Are thinx available in the U.K.? They are almost as thin as regular knickers. I bought Modibodi (Australian brand) they were awful they got holes in them all immediately and were really bloody expensive.

northender · 10/11/2019 23:21

Another vote for Cheeky. Dd is 14 & using them & thinks they're great.

thatthis · 10/11/2019 23:22

I have cheeky wipes period pants and I’ve been really pleased. I was caught out on a heavy day with nothing else and they stood up well. They don’t feel strange at all.

lakeswimmer · 10/11/2019 23:25

I've bought cheeky wipes for DD who's recently started. She's 14 and slim and size 6 to 8 fits. We initially bought one pair as an experiment and she really liked them and was amazed not to leak (despite using them on their own) so we've just bought some extra pairs.

Ihatesundays · 10/11/2019 23:31

Well there’s a universal answer. I will show DD and let her pick!

I bought DD some period pants from Amazon. I think it was about £15 for 5 pairs. They have a waterproof layer built in. They are a back-up rather than a solution as DD seems to be having heavy periods and is terrified of leaks. She wears them with a pad and she seems happy.

DropZoneOne · 10/11/2019 23:41

DD has a pair of Modibodi - size xxs which is about the same as next age 11-12. I went for the extra absorbent and they last a full day at school, no problems. DD wears them on PE days so no one can tell (wear pads with wings on other days) and obviously they stay in place which helps too.

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/11/2019 23:44

I recently bought a pair from modibodi, they are expensive but briliant. Size down if anything though.

W0rriedMum · 10/11/2019 23:50

I got some from ModiBodi and they were great. Despite being for heavy flow, they look and feel normal enough.
I got some from Wuka and they're hideous - they work but it's like wearing a nappy. I cringe every time I wear them but they're expensive so I can't afford to ditch them and buy another brand.

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/11/2019 23:55

@W0rriedMum oh I'm glad I didn't buy the Wuka ones now! I was put off by the claim they only last for 20 to 30 washes!!

I got the modibodi "big pants" for heavy flow. I love wearing them. So comfy.

W0rriedMum · 11/11/2019 09:02

Yeah it's a shame @nottaLotta as Wuka is a British brand.
I switched to try Wuka because ModiBodi's customer service was bad (the system didn't apply the discount code for 1st time buyer and they were totally dismissive). The customer service at Wuka was better for sure, but the product isn't as good.

Grimbles · 11/11/2019 09:06

I like modibodi too, but I would avoid the seam free ones as mine are starting to come 'unstuck' (partly my fault as they got put in the tumble dryer by mistake - an expensive lesson to learn Sad)

ZingZangZong · 11/11/2019 09:16

I avoid cheeky wipes since their views on women are frankly bizarre.
Ive found period pants to be quite quite snug and my 12year old dd who is a size 10if thayt, very petite and slim wears a 12 in pants and they're on the verge of being tight.

Themazeoflife · 11/11/2019 09:16

Modibodi have a red range designed just for teens.

Cheeky wipes Are also good but the new design not the older design.

ilovetofu · 11/11/2019 09:19

Moodi boodis are excellent highly recommend!

ilovetofu · 11/11/2019 09:22

The "red" ones are for girls... (as opposed to women)

https://www.modibodi.co.uk/pages/red

They are very comfy!

JohnCRaven · 11/11/2019 20:09

@ZingZangZong may I ask what those views are please? When I have contacted them to ask about bags or sizing the lady responding has been lovely and friendly. Felt like a really value driven company.

ZingZangZong · 11/11/2019 21:13

Apparently men have periods now @JohnCRaven. People who questioned whether that is actually true were made very very unwelcome on their Facebook page.
