Tight, painful cracked lips - any recommended chapsticks / balms etc?

Normal chapstick not working , just 'pooling' on the skin.

Cannot smile as too painful!

Any recommendations? (or just go to the local pharmacy when it opens and get their advice?)

Mine are more dry at the moment due to the weather and probably central heating. Have you tried carmex or just plain vasaline? This does sound extreme though so maybe a pharmacy could help.

AreYouOkayHun · 10/11/2019 08:59

This is my go to product at this time of year.

Blistex (the cream in the squeeze tube with the red lid)

Vaseline has always been the only thing to work for me. Slather it on beyond your lip line as much as possible and it should work quite quickly.

MrsSpenserGregson · 10/11/2019 09:01

Lol this one www.boots.com/blistex-relief-cream-5g-10137751 - confusingly a different product to @AreYouOkayHun's Grin

chesterfuckingdraws · 10/11/2019 09:02

The okeefs lip repair is really good.
Elizabeth Arden 8hour lip balm is lovely too.

Carmex and blistex are fab ones too

Really slather it on especially overnight and gently rub with a toothbrush or towel/facecloth in the morning when it has sunk in a bit. Then apply regularly during the day.

Make sure you're drinking plenty water and try not to lick your lips/pick them.

MagicKingdom17 · 10/11/2019 09:02

Carmex or Blistex. I find that Vaseline just slips off when my lips are very chapped.

FarmerFrump · 10/11/2019 09:04

Palmers coco butter lip balm.
Very soft and hydrating.

adagio · 10/11/2019 09:04

What @ MrsSpenserGregson said and blue pot medi blistex once it gets a bit better

Mominatrix · 10/11/2019 09:07

I have always used a smear of Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream and have been happy with the results.

MustBeThin · 10/11/2019 09:07

45ml tube of Eucerin Aquaphor costs about £9 but lasts 8-9 months applying multiple times a day.

BikeRunSki · 10/11/2019 09:08

Burt’s Bees lip balm. I work and play outside. This is my go-to product. And the chemist in my village sells it!

Toddlerteaplease · 10/11/2019 09:09

Palmers coco butter lip balm or all purpose stick.

squee123 · 10/11/2019 09:13

another vote for Blistex. Day to day I use the one in the white plastic tube but if they are really bad you need the one in the metal tube with the red lid as that's for really badly chapped lips

Ohyesiam · 10/11/2019 09:13

Lip balms are great, and really necessary, but dry lips are a sign of dehydration, so drink a couple of litres of water along with using the Vaseline.

Camomila · 10/11/2019 09:14

I'm alternaying between vaseline and just putting pure coconut oil on.

ThanosSavedMe · 10/11/2019 09:14

Lansinoh. It’s for sore nipples and cracked skin but is the absolute best thing ever for dry lips too.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 10/11/2019 09:16

Palmers cocoa butter stick

SurpriseSparDay · 10/11/2019 09:16

Have you considered

a) your diet?

b) things you use on your face?

The only thing that I know gives me dry lips is when I rub the foam from a glycolic acid face mask into my lips.

Olive oil (mixed with a little tea tree/ eucalyptus essential oil) used constantly works wonders.

malovitt · 10/11/2019 09:17

I second Eucerin Aquaphor lip balm. Quite often on offer in Boots.

TwiddleMuff · 10/11/2019 09:18

Isn’t Vaseline a barrier and actually really bad for dry lips? It’s made with petroleum - it’s not going to moisturise.

I use Shea butter, seems to work!

DragonontheWagon · 10/11/2019 09:18

Either Carmex or blistex in the metal tube. They're the only ones that help when mine are bad and peeling or cracked.

MustardScreams · 10/11/2019 09:19

Laneige lip sleeping mask is amazing. Slather it on at night and my lips are plump and soft by morning. Works for even the driest lips. I get mine on Amazon.

TwiddleMuff · 10/11/2019 09:19

Also, it’s good to use an spf on your lips as UV rays damage them.

FrancesFlute · 10/11/2019 09:20

Another vote for Blistex
