Dec 1st Xmas box

I know it’s not a thing, but surely an December the 1st Xmas box would be a better idea than a Christmas Eve box ?

Xmas pjs, Xmas jumper, Xmas book, Xmas films. You use All this stuff in the run yo yo Christmas not after. If you do an Xmas eve box you would only get 2 days use out of it.

Well I think I’m going to start a December 1st box for the kids this year instead.

I’ll be doing both - there’s a Christmas section if you didn’t know!

Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2019 19:42

Is an advent calendar not enough? Grin

Stompythedinosaur · 09/11/2019 20:03

Depends what you use it for, I suppose. We have a box of Christmas stuff that comes out around the start of Dec, with decorations and christmas bits and pieces, but nothing new.

We have a hamper on Christmas eve in order to encourage the dc to have a bath and settle down for a film, and to keep them busy while I prep the veg for Christmas day.

I used to do a Christmas Eve Hamper when my DC were little to calm them down (bath, new PJs , some sweets , read then teeth and bed )

Now they're older , I started the Dec 1st Box , they don't need calming down .
Their PJs and robes are more ££ and not Christmas , more winter .
Seems more sense to get more use from them.

Ribeebie · 09/11/2019 20:06

This is what I'm doing. My son is only 1 so it's his 2nd Xmas so every year we will put in the same book (night before Xmas) one of my old Xmas dvd choices (snowman this year) and new Xmas pyjamas to wear through December. Seems better to me than a Xmas eve box and not really anything I wouldn't be buying anyway.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 09/11/2019 20:09

We do Advent Calendars and Elf on the 1st. On Xmas Eve they have new PJs not necessarily Xmas ones, slippers, bubble bath, popcorn, hot choc, Elf movie on DVD and the night before Xmas book.

FlowerTink · 09/11/2019 20:10

We do a December 1st box here. My DD is 4 so its a Christmas film, some Christmas pj's to wear throughout December, baking, and things that can be used all month.

Ginnymweasley · 09/11/2019 20:12

We do this. It has pjs, xmas films, xmas books, xmas bedding and some xmas crafts in it. It magically appears in the morning of Dec 1st with their advent calenders. You will get loads of people telling you it's a waste of money etc. But do what's best for you. We dont do an xmas eve box or stockings but we do do a box at the start of dec.

MakeUpGirl · 09/11/2019 20:17

I do a Dec 1st box for DD, our elf delivers it and it has Christmas pyjamas, a couple of craft kits, a Christmas film and an advent calendar in it. It also always contains tickets for a Christmas event we’re going to
It means she gets plenty of wear out of her pyjamas and gives her things to do each weekend through December which we’d do anyway but gets her excited about them
I did a Christmas Eve box when she was 18 months but found she got so over excited it was impossible to get her to settle down so this works better for us

ItsJustASimpleLine · 09/11/2019 20:31

We do a 1st December box with Christmas crafts, xmas pjs and some treats for December. On Christmas Eve the box has in new pjs (non-xmas themed), a movie for that night and some snacks. It works out great

Swisskit · 09/11/2019 20:32

What a load of consumerist nonsense. Like kids don't get enough at Christmas.

December 1st is still weeks away from Christmas anyway.

Fucking ridiculous.

Morgan12 · 09/11/2019 20:41

How is it 'fucking ridiculous'?

It's for kids. At Christmas time.

Lighten up.

The elf arrives here on 1st December with some PJs, advent calendars, some event tickets and letter from Santa.

We put the tree up and bedding on the beds on the 1st aswell.

But maybe this year I'll just punch my kids in the face and give them some coal and maybe a slice of bread to eat if their lucky. Fuck giving them some lovely memories and bringing some Christmas joy 😒

Figgygal · 09/11/2019 20:44

Sorry I agree with swisskit

Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2019 20:45

All I can say is when you start these 'traditions' you will have to continue them. Every. Single. Year.

Nicknacky · 09/11/2019 20:49

I also think it’s too much doing Christmas Eve boxes or 1st December.

But then I also don’t see the point in Christmas bedding!

DameXanaduBramble · 09/11/2019 20:58

I have amazing Christmas memories, never had a Dec 1 or Christmas Eve box. Did have stockings though.

Howaboutnoooo · 09/11/2019 21:10

I was going to do a Dec 1st box last year with pjs and films, then life got in the way. I still got the pjs and just laid them on the kids beds that night. They were still excited, they still got to wear Christmas pjs most of December and there was plenty going on for them to look forward to.
But each to their own, if you enjoy putting together that kind of stuff go for it. It’s nice to make magic for your kids and make them feel special.

ParkheadParadise · 09/11/2019 21:17

I also agree with Swisskit

Millymollymandybestie · 09/11/2019 21:40

For those who think it it fucking ridiculous have you never owned a pair of Xmas pj or an Xmas jumper or never got a Christmas film? Just looked at Christmas Eve boxes and it struck me you would get more use from the stuff if you got it at the beginning of December.

No you don't because as the DC get older , they change .
They go through : going to the Panto , going to Regent St to see the lights , going to see Father Christmas .

Then they don't want to, so you stop .

Swap to dinner and a film.
Dinner in the local Wetherspoons

Traditions evolve , some are kept , some discarded .

My DC remember them fondly (though my eldest pretends not to, he still asks for his new PJs and robe )

DH put their bedding on , it's turned cold here .

What anyone chooses for their own DC is down to them.
If you don;t agree , that's down to you.

I would never slate someone who doesn't and I don't tolerate anyone who slates me Xmas Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2019 21:48

That's me told. Grin

I was talking about Christmas Eve boxes though. It might seem cute when they are todllers but not so much if they are still insisting on them 10 years later and you are fed up with buying all the stuff.

But I don't even bother with Christmas Dinner so my two DC are well deprived. Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/11/2019 21:55

Actually Sparkling most of that was aimed at a post further up ( the sweary one from Swiss ) it's just that , you don't need to do it forever .

No Christmas Dinner though ..Xmas Shock - Are you some Dickensian Orphanage Owner ! Xmas Wink

The only reason my DS lives with us is for Christmas Dinner , (And the fact we pay his travel to University and feed/house him without charge)
I know he loves me really Xmas Grin

TSSDNCOP · 09/11/2019 21:55

Is an advent calendar not enough?

Bless you Sparkling but for God’s sake don’t anger them.

Whattodoabout · 09/11/2019 21:55

I always get my DC a new bauble and a Christmas book on the 1st December. The pyjamas are a Christmas Eve thing but they’re never Christmas print pyjamas, I usually get them checked button up ones.

Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2019 21:59

@70isaLimitNotaTarget we have an all day running buffet. So I guess I do have a tradition after all. Visitors welcome at any time all day and they can have what they like whenever.

This was actually the DC's choice from early on as they don't really like roast dinners and didn't want to stop playing with their presents for lunch.

I think if they try and carry this tradition on their future partners might not be best pleased and think it all very strange. Shock Grin
