@poppiesway1 look at Cats Protection League, they have to be 14 to volunteer in the shops but at 13 can work in the rehoming centre if a parent goes with them. DS1 and I did it earlier this year and both enjoyed it.

BeanBag7 · 09/11/2019 08:13

Are you stuck because your child is 13 and nowhere takes volunteers until 14?
I would mention this to the school as you definitely wont be the only ones struggling.
I dont understand why schools seem to have started doing D of E a year early - I've never heard of it before and then this year there seem to be loads.

If she is a daughter and is a guide, she can be a young leader at brownies or rainbows from age 13. If not she has to wait until 14. I think it is similar for scouting.

SuperMeerkat · 09/11/2019 08:15

When I did it I worked in a charity shop.

Helps out with after school hockey club at a primary school

DS did 1 hour a week at the local library. He was serving customers as well as replacing books and doing other general tasks. He was also offered the opportunity to help out with cubs/scouts if he couldn't find anything else as one if the DofE leaders at school also happened to run the local group.

Thank you. Seems like “bronze” is about an hour a week.

I wondered about providing companionship at the local care homes. He talks about being a doctor so he’d better find out what he’s in for!

One worked in a charity shop and the other ran an art club for primary school children after school.

happystory · 09/11/2019 12:54

Enko · 09/11/2019 13:03

Enko · 09/11/2019 13:04

Minionoftheantichrist · 09/11/2019 13:10

Helped at brownies
Helped her trampolining teacher at a group for beginners.
One lunchtime a week at a scheme her school ran with a nearby primary school listening to children read.

Quick update to say he is helping in a small local soup kitchen. It’s an eye opener!
