Do you exercise every day?

If so... what do you do and how long have you been doing it for? How do you keep the momentum going?

Is it true that that hardest part of regular exercise is the first three weeks and after then it becomes a habit?

Yes, once you start it’s very addictive. I use an app so it motivates me on really busy day to squeeze it in. I aim for between 30-90 mins a day depending on work and family commitments.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 09/11/2019 17:27

Yes, 6 times a week.....but it is tennis which is addictive as hell

I always try to be better, beat certain people. It motivates me because I am sad (competitive) like that

The health benefits are a welcome side effect Grin

I could not make myself do something if it was not fun, so no gym for me

Fairylea · 09/11/2019 17:30

I don’t do proper gym type exercise but I do walk VERY briskly everyday for at least 40 mins ish. Literally walk / jog. I use the Active 10 app which records how briskly you walk and you aim to do 3X 10 min bursts a day. I do it all in one go, I go out with my iPhone with music and really go for it. It’s really helped my asthma and autoimmune issues.

I walk does that count?

OneToughMudderFudder · 09/11/2019 18:08

I've recently upped my gym sessions to 6 days a week, from 2-3 as I wasn't seeing results, it's had a massive impact quite quickly. I do 40-50 mins moderate - hard cardio, then 45 mins weight lifting alternating between upper and lower body. Swimming (breaststroke) as well when doing upper body.

I'm enjoying it much more than when I was doing it less regularly and my body is loving it I have to say. Last thing I thought I'd be was a gym bunny at 48. I'm addicted now and long may it continue!

AuntieStella · 09/11/2019 18:59

"I walk does that count?"

Yes. If you're definitely going out for a walk, pushing yourself in some sections, maybe including hills. Just pootling round doesn't really do it, though getting up and frequently moving the day is way better than being on your arse all the time

Cecilandsnail · 09/11/2019 21:04

Yes, mostly. I do a sport 3-5 times per week but requires rest days otherwise I'd be fucked. The days in between I am active but don't exercise as such, but have a physical job and will chuck in some situps or pullups or squats here and there. I don't need any motivation to do it all though...I just love the sport and would do it all day every day if I could! Maybe you just need to find your exercise niche.

Groundfloor · 09/11/2019 22:42

At least five days a week - normally alternating between using a cross trainer for 30 mins (or a long brisk walk if the weather is nice), or calisthenic functional exercises on a basic home made frame.

Trewser · 09/11/2019 22:50

Just pootling round doesn't really do it

It does, actually. If you go for a nice longish walk then that is exercise. If its outside then its great headspace. You don't have to be a sweaty gasping mess to get the benefits of exercise, although sometimes that can feel good.

Bunnylady53 · 09/11/2019 22:57

Ashamed to say I don’t exercise at all. Used to do karate 3 or 4 times a week but stopped after an injury & never went back. I don’t even go for walks that often which is shocking as we live in an absolutely beautiful part of the country. A while ago I bought 2nd hand dvd of Davina’s 7 minute workouts so perhaps I could start with those.

Every day as we have dogs and do lots of hillwalking with them, we are lucky to live in some beautiful countryside so I mountain bike quite frequently. I also ride my horse a few times a week. I do a 25 min HIIT session three times a week and two weight sessions in between. Also play tennis. I do some sort of yoga every day, mostly yin but sometimes I’ll practice rocket if I fancy challenging myself.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 10/11/2019 07:36

I only walk or run and i do that everyday. Whatever the weather.

YouJustDoYou · 10/11/2019 07:39

I try but it's hard as I'm the sole carer for three young kids most of the time. I use the Zombie, Run! app as it's the ONLY thing that's ever kept me motivated. I desperately needed natural help to try and help my severe depression and exercise really has personally helped, but I just wish I had the time to dedicate more to it.
