Do you exercise every day?

If so... what do you do and how long have you been doing it for? How do you keep the momentum going?

Is it true that that hardest part of regular exercise is the first three weeks and after then it becomes a habit?

Gym 3 to 4 times a week...weights and a spin class.
I do at least one 5 to 7 mile walk a week.

bumblingbovine49 · 07/11/2019 08:16

Agree once it's habit then it is hard not to. Dunno if 3 wks is the transition point, but could be.

Definitely not 3 weeks for me any way. I have never exercised every day but I have had multiple periods of many months in the past (3-6 usually) when I exercised 5-6 times a week every week. It never stuck in the long term for me. I haven't done any proper regular exercise except a bit of walking (and sometimes very little of that) for about 10 years

With the possible exception of yoga I just never found anything that I liked, or that I could force myself to keep doing once I hit the 6 month wall and just couldnt' keep making my self do something I loathed so much . Then would stop exercising for ages, then start again as I felt guilty, force myself to do it then stop a few months later when I just couldn't face it any more and repeat....

I gave all that up 10 years ago but I do walk about 50 minutes to work 3 times a week (when I am not working from home) and I sometimes go for a walk or two with DH in the evening or at the weekend as well. That is it though soI am probably not the best person to ask really Smile

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 07/11/2019 08:28

I do three Zumba classes, two Barre classes, one flex and tone, one body conditioning, one Pilates and one yoga every week. Over four days. I should probably do some stuff at home too, but I do walk as well at the weekend.

I’m not in the first flush, with a bad back, so don’t want to push too far.

I do 3-5 days a week, mainly classes. If I don’t do it my arthritis really plays up, which is good motivation. I didn’t yesterday as I had to work late and my hip’s very painful today.

I think once you start seeing the changes in your body that motivates you to keep going.

Trewser · 07/11/2019 08:36

Are you serious foxy 🤣

No wonder you've got a bad back!

Froggledoggleoggle · 07/11/2019 08:45

Same as @BuzzShitbagBobbly and @OccasionalNachos I weight train so need rest days
5 days in the gym and I walk everywhere.

Not sure about the habit thing as dp and I go through stages of training (we motivate each other and have been doing it this way for 10 years) we stopped going to the gym when we bought our first flat for 2 months, stopped again when we sold the flat and bought the house, and again when we had children (I had a couple of miscarriages and irrationally blamed exercise so refused to enter the gym for over a year and a half)

We're now 3 weeks into being back on the training bandwagon, I estimate 6 months and then we may be taking a break 😂

HulksPurplePanties · 07/11/2019 08:47

I did. Even after I herniated two discs in my back that won't heal. Then I got stress fractures in my leg and was in a cast for 2 months. Now I do 3-4 days a week. Fat as fuck but at least I'm not in pain!

Muir23 · 07/11/2019 08:49

@FinnBalorsAbs amazing! Which app do you use please?

AGnu · 07/11/2019 08:55

Not every day. I go to classes at the gym 3 times a week. I'd like to go more but those are the only classes I want to do that are at convenient times for me & I need someone talking me through everything for me to actually do it so I can't just go to the gym.

Sondor · 07/11/2019 09:23

I tend to do about 4-5 days per week, roughly 30 mins per day, not consecutive, fitness blender programmes so a mix of weight training, HIIT and pilates. Sometimes it’s 3 when life with the kids takes over/I feel under the weather. It’s pretty essential for my mental health. Doing regular exercise has been amazing at controlling my anxiety, so much so that DH and I see me getting a workout in as a family priority. The kids like to join in too!

Stravapalava · 07/11/2019 09:30

I will do something every day except Saturday - that's my lazy day to spend with the family. I don't have a strict schedule of what I do, so it's all fitting it depending on what I fancy on that particular day.

I like to run every other day, then on the non running days, I do kettlebells, dumbbells, swimming, cycling, yoga or just get out for a walk.

itssquidstella · 07/11/2019 10:21

I exercise five days a week: a mixture of hot yoga, spin classes and HIIT/weights, with the occasional bike ride, run or indoor climbing session thrown in for variety. I also walk a lot. I find I work out more productively if I allow myself a couple of rest days per week!

EnFinale · 07/11/2019 12:49

If I'm in the right place I do.

Ain’t that the truth! The mind is willing but the body is weak - or is it the other way round?!

Some very inspiring tales on here! Smile

I commute and go to the park at weekends with the kids. Odd spot of gardening but more for the photos than anything else.

lastqueenofscotland · 07/11/2019 12:53

Yes I run to a decent level.
I run most days and on days I don’t I ride 3/4 horses or swim or do strength training/yoga

Ive always done sport to a decent level from age 10/11 so it’d always been a habit.

amigababy · 07/11/2019 12:58

I do now, I started 3 weeks ago with the aim of 90 minutes a day:
Walking, yoga, home exercise bike, weight training, Pilates DVD - basically anything.
So far I've had one day off re TOM, when I'm always exhausted. But I'm developing the habit now of just knowing it needs to be done.
Plus I joined weight watchers, and find the extra points useful when I'm hungry.

CheerfulMuddler · 07/11/2019 13:11

I walk a mile and a half every weekday doing the school run, does that count?

MissLadyM · 07/11/2019 13:13

I swim 5 days a week, the odd yoga & Zumba class but I hate feeling hot and sweaty!

Kazzyhoward · 07/11/2019 13:20

Yep, at least 10,000 fast walking steps per day. That's proper walking, not counting what I do around the house/office/shopping etc. On dry days, I do 2/3 walks around the village/town. On wet days, I do a couple of 5,000 step walks on my home treadmill. That produces a slow/steady weight loss of a couple of pounds per month without dieting. I'm about 5 stone less than my biggest weight and feeling good!

ShinyGiratina · 07/11/2019 13:32

I do something most days. Some days or phases are more intense, and others are more relaxed. I do half marathons so my running patterns vary depending on training. Being fit allows you to have active rest days, so if I've been doing something like Run Every Day January, a rest day is "just" 1-2 miles at a relaxed pace which was tough 5 years ago when I did C25k!

In recent months I've been getting up earlier to do some yoga pretty much every day and it feels great.

GoodGriefSunshine · 07/11/2019 21:03

4x week strength training with heavy weights. 1x week Pilates and 2x random so it might be an hours walk plus swimming or some jump rope and boxing or light toning work with lighter weights or some other activity. I might have a day a week where I do nothing at all.

OhioOhioOhio · 07/11/2019 21:04

Nope. Used to.

Ffsnosexallowed · 07/11/2019 21:04

No. I'm doing well if I exercise once a year

FinnBalorsAbs · 09/11/2019 16:29

@userxx Awww thank you! It feels a bit surreal to say it - I’ve never stuck at anything this long before (and I’m off out for curry and beer tonight, everything in moderation, eh?! ;))

@Muir23 It’s called DDP Yoga but it’s not zen like calm spiritual yoga, more a mixture of yoga moves, stretching and cardio. I love it. The app costs me around 7 quid a month and is worth every penny. I just do it while the kids are napping or eating (so basically they don’t join in and accidentally kidney punch me!). If you fancy giving it a try PM me, there’s a code you can use for a free month (it’s not a weird MLM or anything and I don’t get commission, I’m just not sure if I should post it publicly).

Muir23 · 09/11/2019 16:49

@FinnBalorsAbs thank you! Will try to work out how to PM you Smile
