Do you fill your child's water bottle the evening before?

I do, but I'm wondering how lazy this makes me.
So, genuine question: do you fill your child's school water bottle the evening before or do you fill it in the morning?

Always morning

MissBPotter · 03/11/2019 20:48

Night before but store it in the fridge.

shitpark · 03/11/2019 20:49

In the summer I fill it then put in the freezer the night before. But not as the weather cools.

I run the tap until the water is cold - and yes, when ds gets me a drink, it is old water, and yes, I can tell.
Bottled water, sealed, tastes like fresh to me. Once its been open a few hours, it tastes different, imo.

ChickenLipa23 · 03/11/2019 20:49

I do it all the night before, lunches, uniform out, shoes ready, bags packed, water bottles.

mumwon · 03/11/2019 20:50

(grew up in Aus) we use to put in to freezer night before & take it next morning so it would thaw out during day slowly & stay nice & cold (stale water? so long as bottle is cleaned each day properly …)

MichonnesBBF · 03/11/2019 20:50

Bloody hell, I have never filled them up, just wash them, then sent them back in empty.

They fill them up themselves when there, it has genuinely never crossed my mind to fill them up before. Blush

TokyoSushi · 03/11/2019 20:52

Always morning here, I do it while making breakfast

Looneytune253 · 03/11/2019 20:52

How is it lazy? It still takes the same amount of effort as it does in the morning? Dh does ours and they sit in the fridge till morning

DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain · 03/11/2019 21:05

When I refill I'm always a bit concerned about bacteria multiplying overnight in case something like a food particle in the bottle or lodged in the cap has been missed, especially if the room is warm

But that would happen regardless of there being water in there?

TreePeepingWatcher · 03/11/2019 21:25

Morning as the bottle comes out of the dishwasher which has been on overnight.

They are Sistema ones but not the twist cap ones. DCs are in sixth form and secondary.

Considering how much water children drink after morning break at primary, a drink at lunch does not suffice. Also some of the filter water taps don't work in some classrooms. Hence why mine are filled at home from a filtered supply.

I think this is the most boring thread I've ever seen on here Grin.

ChickenLipa23 · 03/11/2019 22:15

Mookie 😂😂😂😂😂

MrsJoshNavidi · 04/11/2019 19:44

Granted the water in the bottles when they're bought has been there a while but the bottles are new, and they're sealed. When I refill I'm always a bit concerned about bacteria multiplying overnight in case something like a food particle in the bottle or lodged in the cap has been missed, especially if the room is warm

It's only sealed until you open it and drink from it.

Purplejay · 04/11/2019 20:04

Morning.

SoyDora · 04/11/2019 20:08

Morning. It has never occurred to me to do it the night before to be honest!
DD1 never drinks from hers anyway, she brings it back full every day.

LesLavandes · 04/11/2019 20:18

I never knew it was a thing

managedmis · 04/11/2019 20:21

Of course it's a thing, lavandes, where have you been?

LoisLittsLover · 04/11/2019 20:22

Night before then stored in the fridge

Happyspud · 04/11/2019 20:24

There’s no such thing as fresh water! It’s all been sitting somewhere waiting to be drubk😂

JenniferM1989 · 04/11/2019 20:26

Stale water 😂 sometimes you've got to laugh at these threads. If milk can stay fresh in the fridge for 5 days or so, I'm sure a bottle of water will stay fresh for 12 hours

SoyDora · 04/11/2019 20:34

Surely doing it the night before is no lazier than doing it in the morning? It takes the same amount of time either way?

EmmiJay · 04/11/2019 20:57

Alright, I'll bite. Morning with shop bought water then into freezer for a bit. Meh.

PrettyShiningPeople · 04/11/2019 21:28

In the morning, I don't like the idea of 'stale' water in water bottles. Probably completely irrational.

Not irrational at all, water is a breeding ground. Should be fine if the bottle is clean and it’s refrigerated though.

Betty777 · 04/11/2019 21:34

hahahhahaahahhaahah seriously? Geez we find new things to find potentially guilty about (as parents) every day.......

Well it looks like my child often drinks stale water then - he has several school/other bags and often seems to have a half drunk water in each of them. He also seems to be sick a LOT less often than most of his school friends, so I will continue to not be worried
