What’s your pet peeve on Social Media

PupsAndKittens · 03/11/2019 08:39

Mine is the sharing of misinformed/ outdated/ fake news, due to people just sharing based onthe headline and bothering to actually check the article

I also refuse to share anything on Facebook that includes guilt trip and Obnoxious language. I.e, “No one will share this” “bet I won’t get one share” “if you don’t share”. There was a post last week that was a picture of a beautiful baby (Who just so happened to be black). The caption- “No one will share because they are racist.” Like WTF, I felt that was actually racist to white people, because to say that everyone of a certain race is racist, is racist for saying that all white people have the same views!

There’s a lot more but I am too --hungover-- tired to list them all Grin

OP posts:

Ambulance chasers who witness and accident and then post a " I hope they are all ok" when really they are fishing for information about what happened.

Similarly, people who post that there has been a multiple collision in thick fog, a petrol tanker has exploded, a light plane has crashed into the wreckage and a sink hole has opened in the road and swallowed the lot. And then write, "I hope everyone is OK. Fingers crossed."

MoiraRose · 03/11/2019 14:51

I also hate all those long posts about people struggling with invisible disabilities and autoimmune diseases then a list at the bottom and urging people to share, with "I bet you won't." A voice in my head turns into Mrs Doyle "Ah, go on! Go on, go on, go on"

MuseumOfYou · 03/11/2019 14:55

"conversation starters" on Facebook. They have a cup of tea icon by their name and they're basically some kind of spammers

Not sure this is true. This has appeared by my name in a group I contribute to occasionally. I certainly haven't signed for it and my posts are the same sort I post on other groups.

Perhaps it means that you start threads occasionally or otherwise contribute?

DaveMyHat · 03/11/2019 14:58

I hate pretty much everything about Facebook. I miss the old days when it was me and my friends writing stupid stuff on each others walls. Now it's all attention seeking, bragging, selfie posing. I don't really go on anymore but keep my account because I'm in a few groups I like to have a look at from time to time. I don't have Instagram but imagine it is basically Facebook minus the very few good bits that stop me from deleting Facebook.

SilverySurfer · 03/11/2019 15:03

I don't have one because I don't use any social media - it seems to be for the self obsessed.

CouldBeAGreatMum · 03/11/2019 15:08

Posts that begin "Excited to announce..."
followed by [new job / job title / craft business etc] as if they are some kind of celeb or politician!

Middle aged women (it's always them) posting that it's "wine o'clock" or posting a photo of some "bubbles" and tagging their girlfriends as if they're just so CRAZY COOL!

People "checking in" anywhere.

"[name] marked themselves as safe" after terror incident Hmm

Comments about Strictly Come Dancing written on first name terms as if everyone knows what you're talking about eg "Kevin has done amazingly tonight"!
"Tess looks sensational in that dress!"

Haha! I'm sure I've posted some reeeeeally annoying ones in my time, but certainly none of the above! Smile

Babyroobs · 03/11/2019 15:34

My fb newsfeed seems to be dominated at present by lots of work collegues who are crocheting various cuddly animals / sloths/ dinosaurs/ dragons etc. these are then purchased by others and photographed on various travels around the country.

AutumnRose1 · 03/11/2019 15:40

@Strugglingtodomybest. “ it's fascinating from a pyscological point of view.”

How so? I’m not on Facebook but all these things sound annoying. I’d be interested to hear what you glean from them.

letsdolunch321 · 03/11/2019 16:15

A very close relative of mine is nice to her friends on FB but at the same time as being nice she is sending me messages slatting these so called friends off 🙈

Why be that person !!!

EleanorReally · 03/11/2019 16:27

wine o'clock annoys me, and i dont like prosecco, but i do check in to places occasionally Blush when out and about, not hospital

Likethebattle · 03/11/2019 16:58

I have a conversation starter badge on a group I’m in, it’s not spammers Facebook just adds it automatically!

I have people sharing missing person posts. I had a very good friend go missing and unfortunately found dead. A close family member of his had a breakdown over it. Six months later some fuckwit on my friends list shared his missing advert.

The ones that are vague ‘wow blast from the past, it makes you think!’ Wtf or ‘woo hoo day off, what to do?’ That makes zero sense!!! I just tag DH in dog videos a lot.

StartsAtTheMeadow · 03/11/2019 17:12

Publicly shared photos of children too young to meaningfully consent to having their photos shared. Fair enough on a private account but for everyone to see? Nope. -Looking at you, SIL-

wattytanker · 03/11/2019 17:21

MLM bollocks with bragging, boss babe nonsense, deriding 9-5 jobs and huns pouring in with support in comments while the person's family/real friends stay well clear

Any antivax nonsense

Hysterical "you won't see X reported in mainstream media" when X was on the front page of the BBC website

Coconut oil cures cancer but BigPharma is suppressing it

StartsAtTheMeadow · 03/11/2019 17:36

It is fascinating & weird that people do because it's so transparent

I agree. Especially when people are stealth boasting, eg "it takes so long to cook my DD's dinner every day because I want to give her the organic raw vegan hold plated crap she loves" - I think why not just write "I am a better mum than you because my kids don't eat processed food", I mean that's what the poster is really wanting to say. Or "tell me how great I look" under a selfie, or "I'm richer than you fuckers!" under the holiday/shopping posts.

People don't say those things because obvious bragging is frowned on, but we're in a place where a lot of people think thinly disguised bragging to everyone you know is ok.

hauntedvagina · 03/11/2019 17:48

People who post endless selfies. Usually with a Snapchat filter. We know you haven't got furry ears Karen, and we also know you haven't got the complexion of a 17 year old.

People who check in at A&E.

"U ok Hun?"

BRITAIN DUE WORST WINTER IN THREE MILLION YEARS! A shared news article from 2010.

People who are making memories, YOLOing or so in love.

Unsureconfused · 03/11/2019 18:07

Irritating abbreviations like 'lil' and 'girlie'

Unsureconfused · 03/11/2019 18:08

Sorry, my error..hadn't thought that thorough properly before I posted. (blush)

Unsureconfused · 03/11/2019 18:09

In the school group,

"Is it an inset day tomorrow or are they back to school?"

FFS. This boils my piss. You obviously have access to the internet as you've posted on Facebook. So... check the newsletter we got last day of term OR the school website?!

Plus how can you not know this anyway.

In short my pet peeve is people who do not engage their brain.

NellyTimes · 03/11/2019 18:27

Also people who say "that's too funny" or "she's too cute". Oh I'm sorry, I'll try and be less funny and make sure my daughter isn't so fucking cute next time you see her.

fuzzymoon · 03/11/2019 19:38

Human voices on animals. My hooomum uvs me. Etc.

WhiteWineAndMagnums · 03/11/2019 20:12

"Delete if not aloud".

Always, always 'aloud' not 'allowed'...

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/11/2019 20:17

Does Mumsnet count as social media? If not, I don't have any!

Well I do have Facebook but restrict my friends list to no more than 80. So I feel ok with those 80.

lljkk · 03/11/2019 20:24

"I'm going to unfriend everyone who doesn't reply to this!"

I mean, knock yourself out. Unfriend me. It's ok. I will recover. 🤦‍♀️
