Definitely, totally theoretical situation...absolutely not mucking about on Rightmove and Google trying to find where to move my family to...

But let's say you were a young working class family who a had 145k budget and could move anywhere, where would you go? Requirements being that you need at least 3 bedrooms, public transportation, schools nearby and somewhere relatively safe. We're not very fussy and open to anything! But I am absolutely overwhelmed by the options!

You get a lot for your money in Wolverhampton

I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/73877578

Bushbury isn't a bad area either. Easy links to Birmingham, London (Euston) and the North.

Some areas of South Wales

BlouseAndSkirt · 31/10/2019 13:36

Nottingham.

riotlady · 31/10/2019 14:05

Another vote for around Newcastle!

Ontheblackhill · 31/10/2019 14:10

Swansea. Beautiful city with some great schools. Also other parts of south wales.

LemonPrism · 31/10/2019 14:36

Scotland - Aberdeen?

Hecateh · 31/10/2019 14:47

Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham. All close to the M1, Sheffield has a good railway link, Trams, Meadowhall Universities(2) and is one of the greenest cities in the UK.

amusedbush · 31/10/2019 14:52

We've just bought a three bedroom house in Glasgow for £70k so I'd take that and blow the rest Grin

Nat6999 · 31/10/2019 16:23

For that amount you could buy an ex council house in the south west of Sheffield, no more than 10 minutes drive to the Peak district, 15 minutes from M1 Junction 29, lovely parks, good public transport, good schools. In the area I live, you could buy a 3 bed ex council house built in late 60's for £120k max with everything done, 5 minutes drive away, you could buy a property built between the wars with period features, good sized garden, on public transport routes with local shops no more than 5 minutes away for £140-£150k, both have several primary schools within 10 minutes & secondary schools within 15 minutes including a school that only opened September 2018 which is getting praised to the rooftops for it's academic standards & care of pupils.

Bearfrills · 31/10/2019 16:31

North East coast, Northumberland, and Newcastle. There are some really lovely places to live around the region, good transport links both locally and nationally, good schools, universities, etc. and you'd get a lot for your money.

Eaglescliffe.
Bit smaller than you are after, but easy access to Middlesbrough and Stockton. Direct train to Kings Cross.
3 bed for under 150. Good primary and secondary schools.

Hartlepool is on the same trainline. As is Sunderland and Thirsk. All should have stuff in budget.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 31/10/2019 16:53

Another vote for the North East. We got an end of terrace, 3½ beds, in a village 10 minutes from Druridge Bay. Good buses, primary school, co-op, surgery, nice people. £120k.

Dowser · 31/10/2019 16:55

Not a lot in thirsk I’ve just looked
Northallerton maybe

Dowser · 31/10/2019 16:59

For a city I’m surprised how cheap houses are in sunderland.
My husband’s from sunderland... nice people
Plenty going on area.
Good theatre , cinema, train links , Shopping and not far from good heaches

Cardy24 · 31/10/2019 17:01

Retford?

LoonyLunaLoo · 31/10/2019 17:07

Anywhere in Lancashire. Mind you I’d move to A nice area of Liverpool if I was going anywhere.

Bluesheep8 · 31/10/2019 19:13

moobaa I was referring to the fact that public transport links aren't great, that's all.

Bluesheep8 · 31/10/2019 19:23

Because the op listed good transport links in her list of requirements. Good transport links to me means regular buses, including Sundays, aswell as a train service. Just my take on it.

Lolimax · 31/10/2019 19:28

Caerphilly, Ystrad Mynach or Blackwood in South Wales. Good transport links, some really good schools, money will go quite well in housing and always care opportunities.

PsychosonicCindy · 31/10/2019 19:30

Shetland.

lanbro · 31/10/2019 19:35

I live 4 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne and you could easily get a decent 3 bed for that, close to good schools, excellent transport links, countryside on the doorstep despite being so near the city, easy travelling by train, 10 mins from Newcastle airport, close to the coast...I have lived elsewhere but will always stay up here long term
