What's your go to? As easy as Banoffee but I don't fancy Banoffee.

Maybe chocolate mousse?

A couple of friends are coming over and i'm cooking

Depends on the main course, really :-)
I'm quite partial to tiramisu. Finger sponges, tinned custard, coffee and a flake. But I am super lazy...

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 28/10/2019 21:00

Pavlova. Looks good, super easy.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 28/10/2019 21:01

Spag bol.

I'm not a fan of coffee, but that is the effort level i'm looking for Grin

These chocolate brownies, they are like slightly set chocolate mousse. I use half milk and half 85% chocolate and replace the flour with ground almonds and leave out the nuts. I serve them with cream and strawberries. Or alone. They freeze really well too, and keep for days just need a teeny blast in the microwave to freshen up (and become melty).

Anything prepared in advance (or shop bought generally to be honest) but chocolate mousse is always a hit

Parsimon · 28/10/2019 21:07

Fruit fool. Lemon posset. Apple snow. Ginger syllabub. Chocolate refrigerator cake made with lots of brandy. Chocolate mousse. Swiss roll. Fruit crumble. I am ninja at speedy puddings

Tolleshunt · 28/10/2019 21:09

Affogato? But good quality vanilla ice cream and then chuck an espresso over it. Or make a warm chocolate sauce with dark chocolate and a little cream, and pour that over instead. You could add a few raspberries to salve your conscience, if necessary, but it doesn’t need it.

Tolleshunt · 28/10/2019 21:09

BUY good quality ice cream.

Ihatesandwiches · 28/10/2019 21:12

Still on the tiramisu theme, substitute the coffee for a fruit juice and garnish with crumbled flake and the same fruit chopped on top. Any juice with passion fruit with fresh passion fruit spooned over and then a dusting of chocolate.
Bugger, I want some now!

Ihatesandwiches · 28/10/2019 21:14

Make in advance but leave the fresh fruit and chocolate until you're ready to serve.

redredrobins · 28/10/2019 21:18

Large can of evaporated milk whipped with mixer, add a tin of gooseberry pie filling (folded in) put in pretty glass dishes. Easier than pie! and very tasty, looks like you put some effort in too, even though you haven't. Cherry flavour also works but is sweeter.

redredrobins · 28/10/2019 21:20

this can be made ahead of time and put in fridge for a little while to set a bit.

TricklBOO · 28/10/2019 21:20

Trifle. Always trifle. But I do a lemon & ginger one.

Jamaican ginger cake, limoncello, lemon jelly, gingerbread syrup in cream.

Clevs · 28/10/2019 21:23

Pannacotta with strawberry compote.

Katinski · 28/10/2019 22:18

lemon syllabub. always lemon syllabubGrin

naericht · 28/10/2019 23:30

I did ‘poached’ apples last night .. pricked small apples with a fork then 45 mins in pan of simmering sugar, vanilla pod, cinnamon, allspice and cheapish white wine ... they came out all boozey and wintery flavoured . Served them hot with ice cream .

Can probably change that to pears and red wine, or cider instead of wine, etc .

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 29/10/2019 06:38

@Parsimon what is apple snow? Sounds good

Limer · 29/10/2019 09:24

Good vanilla ice cream, topped with a tin of cherry pie filling warmed up with a dash of port. Easiest dessert ever.

HungryForApples · 29/10/2019 09:35

Eton mess!

MonsteraCheeseplant · 29/10/2019 11:47

Cherry pie filling? Do you buy this in the supermarket?

OP posts:
Nottobesoldseparately · 29/10/2019 11:54

Cheesecake.

A lemon one. No bake. Easy as. Will take you 15 mins top. Then leave it to set in the fridge.

Presuming you are going to the shop to buy all the ingredients anyway, I'd buy vanilla ice cream to go with it, but I am a bit of a greedy git when it comes to dessert!

Parsimon · 29/10/2019 11:55

Brantley apple chopped, 2tbsp water, 25g sugar, cinnamon, optional juice and zest of one lemon. Cook until soft (5-8 mins)

2 eggs, 50g sugar. Whisk until meringue-y. Put on top of hot apple mixture. Bake at 180 for 10 mins. Voila hot apple with yummy topping.

Limer · 29/10/2019 13:27

MonsteraCheeseplant Yes, I get tinned cherry pie filling from Morrisons, it's with all the other tinned fruit. It's genuinely delicious, I use it as a cake filling too.

sniffingthewax · 29/10/2019 14:55

I went to someone's house once and had a gorgeous dessert and was shocked at what it was when she told me. In a naice trifle bowl slice Swiss roll, pour over the syrup from a tin of fruit cocktail. Add the fruit from tin of cocktail to cover. Pour over double cream to cover. Refrigerate until very cold, then decorate with finely chopped pistachio nuts and if you are inclined some strawberry coulis (the ones you get in ice cream section) It sounds very WWII rations but it was so nice!

PrincessMonacoOfKent · 29/10/2019 15:08

This Mary Berry cheesecake is my go to. It's very easy and tastes amazing!
