Is there any particular reason for fireworks tonight?

Is the clocks going back now a reason for celebrating with a cannonade of fireworks?
The last hour or so has been a steady thump whizz bang. I fancied an early night but have given up so I've come on here for a moan.
There is no good reason for it or did I miss something.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 27/10/2019 20:42

Round here it's people celebrating Diwali.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 27/10/2019 20:43

Is it Diwali? I saw it mentioned on twitter but I don't know if that's why.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 27/10/2019 20:43

lolaflores · 27/10/2019 20:48

Is it? I thought that's later in November? I know it isnt fixed date but closer to 1st week November. I hadn't seen anything about it anywhere.

Diwali is definitely tonight. Lots less fireworks than normal around me, though

Parsimon · 27/10/2019 20:50

Happy Diwali 🎆

InkyFANGERSInkyFace · 27/10/2019 20:51

Ahhhh that explains why we've had so many going off over the last week. Our newbuild estate is very culturally diverse, there must be a lot of households celebrating.

smoresmores · 27/10/2019 20:52

Ahh that's nice! I was just wondering this myself

Racheyg · 27/10/2019 20:53

I was wondering the same. Happy Diwali

lolaflores · 27/10/2019 20:54

Perhaps because it doesn't sound like the usual massive amount of fireworks that I'm a bit unsure what is going on. Sporadic bits of pops then a massive rocket going off.
And i live in a borough that has a large population of Hindu people. It seems very early

Because pepe enjoy using fireworks for celebrations in general.

lolaflores · 27/10/2019 20:56

So I'm not alone in being surprised? We were away last week for half term so maybe missed out on stuff in school and round the shops

Someone got married round here and had fireworks. FB local page complaining about scared pets.

SinglePringle · 27/10/2019 20:57

I’ve just spent the past 2hrs watching my neighbours Diwali fireworks. Bloody lovely.

MadisonAvenue · 27/10/2019 20:57

The police in our area have tweeted that tonight is one of the few nights when it's legal for fireworks to be set off until 1am.

lolaflores · 27/10/2019 20:59

Dandelion I think people liking fireworks is an established fact. I dont need that pointing out to me. There isnt any need for the sarcasm really, now is there?

There are lots of Diwali displays here that have been going on since Friday night.

Legally tonight they can go on until 1am but they tend to fizzle out around midnight as a rule.

Today is Lakshmi Pujan, the third night of Diwali and generally celebrated as the main festival of the five nights.

Diwali can fall anywhere between mid Oct and mid Nov - it depends on the lunar calendar.

lolaflores · 27/10/2019 21:03

Diwali here usually winds down by 11am to midnight. The council took a firm line on it about 8 years ago that felt so intense and it had been growing more so yeat on year. That includes guy fawkess and halloween. It is 3 big fireworks events close on each others heels.
But it does mark the start of fireworks season.

What did the council do OP?
