Is there any particular reason for fireworks tonight?

Is the clocks going back now a reason for celebrating with a cannonade of fireworks?
The last hour or so has been a steady thump whizz bang. I fancied an early night but have given up so I've come on here for a moan.
There is no good reason for it or did I miss something.

It’s the third nignt of Diwali, there will be much bigger celebrations on Tuesday when it ends.

userxx · 27/10/2019 21:12

I was wondering what it was all about. Really hope they don't go on till 1am 🙈

DontCallMeShitley · 27/10/2019 21:13

We had them last night just after midnight for a while, and pretty much all evening tonight, a few odd ones during the day too.

I worry about the pets because people know to keep them in for 5th November but not for the other times and where I live there lots of random times - birthdays and the like as well as religious celebrations.

lolaflores · 27/10/2019 21:13

They said they would be coming out to shut down private displays that went on after midnight. Since then, the fireworks tend to be done and dusted by about then. It did seem to have an impact on the duration though from now till New Year, most weekends there will be fireworks going on somewhere. People throwing them in the street, which seems to be a harder job to tackle

Why is it allowed to go on till 1am?

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2019 21:19

They can't do that. The council are not above the law.

Bonfire Night = Allowed until midnight

New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year = Allowed until 1am

lolaflores · 27/10/2019 21:20

Worraliberty oh. Ok then.

I think they were trying to curb the fireworks going o at 2 and 3 am which has ot been happening of late.

Yes some people really let them off at random times

Even during the day, which I've never understood.

lolaflores · 27/10/2019 21:31

I thought that the throwing fireworks in the streets that goes on counts as antisocial behaviour. But I suppose it's a case of catching the culprits in the act. Im

Our area has a 'curfew' of 11.00. Normally people will be respectful and stick to it as there are mainly families with children around here but some think that their celebrations are above the law or Council rules hence starting off at midnight.

Is there a reason for setting them off so late? Why can't they just use candles or a great big lampstand like the Menorah in Golders Green for Hannukah?

64sNewName · 27/10/2019 23:34

Someone needs to invent a silent firework.

More beautiful than normal fireworks, to make it desirable, but much much quieter.

The law states they can set them off until 1am during Diwali. There is no law about what time they can start them as long as it's not after that time.

I agree though that it's selfish, especially on a Sunday night when people have to get up for work/school.

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/10/2019 23:44

I was wondering this too but they started here over a week ago and have carried on randomly since with more tonight.

LoveNote · 27/10/2019 23:46

Very selfish! Everyone here is back to school/work tomorrow.

avamiah · 27/10/2019 23:47

I’m in London and I was wondering why the fireworks started earlier as the council approved ones aren’t on till the 4th by me.
I don’t mind them as long as it’s not too late as it just starts getting out of hand then .

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2019 23:53

avamiah your local council haven't 'approved' or organised any Diwali fireworks displays at all??

I'm also in London and my FB news feed and council website has loads of organised displays tonight.

cheeseislife8 · 27/10/2019 23:53

I wondered this too! Happy Diwali!

MonsterMashedSpud · 27/10/2019 23:55

I was wondering too. My cat looked a bit perturbed but then went about her business.

avamiah · 28/10/2019 00:00

WorraLiberty,
I don’t know to be honest with you, we are in
East London .
But I know there are plenty on the 4th .
I didn’t know it was Diwali .

avamiah · 28/10/2019 00:02

If I had seen any posters about I would of taken my daughter but nothing was advertised .

WorraLiberty · 28/10/2019 00:05

I'm in East London/Essex boarder and every year there are displays organised and advertised by the council.

I think you probably need to check the website.

Cherrysoup · 28/10/2019 00:07

The temple is a few hundred yards from the yard, they let us know, which is polite of them. Some owners have stayed up there because their horses get very scared. I’m very lucky that my horse couldn’t care less, nor could the dogs. Lots of private displays round our area.
