I'm in a complete cooking funk. There's only so much you can do with a bit of mince and pack of chicken!

Doing the big food shop tomorrow so would love some meal ideas.

Tonight we're having take away so;

  • Chicken Kebab with lots of salad
  • Chips and Gravy
  • Garlic pizza bread
  • Onion rings
And DD is having sausage and chips.

What are you having for dinner?

We had a roast chicken lemon and thyme, flatbreads, corn on the cob, chips and salad.
Tomorrow will be roast beef
Monday chicken, chorizo and canelini bean stew

I know what you mean I struggle to think of stuff week after week.

JenniferM1989 · 26/10/2019 20:30

I had a chicken kebab with salad and chilli sauce and chips, cheese and gravy (couldn't finish). DH had the same but no gravy. DS was in bed a while a go and missed out! However he had pizza earlier

Talkallday · 26/10/2019 20:43

Had lamb chops, roast carrots, minted peas and new potatoes, yorkshire pud and gravy

We had hot dogs with wedges. DC2 asked for that for her birthday tea, but then had a tantrum because her sausage fell out of her roll and wouldn't eat anymore. Then we had paw patrol birthday cake.

For ideas I read the papers at weekend and rip pages out.

I also see things on Instagram - I follow lots of foodies and get inspiration from them.

And I buy myself a new cookbook once or twice a year. Diana Henry is my newest - this one:

Ok can't do an amazon link on my phone but it's called from Oven to Table or similar and is great.

So what will DD eat? How about Thai or Indian food? Doesn't have to be spicy; make coconut-based ones.

We get stuck in a food rut too.
I try and make one different thing every couple of weeks and if we all like it, it becomes more regular.

VaperCut · 26/10/2019 23:11

DH's yummy lamb biryani with poppadoms and apple pie for dessert.

It takes practically all day to make but so worth it.

Last night dp made a curry, I did bhajis and dd2 did breads to go with it.
Tonight we’re having Mexican - lots of dishes from the Rick stein road to Mexico book and 2 of the wahaca books. We each just pick a couple of things we like from it.
Tomorrow we are out for dinner.
The rest of the week will be chicken souvlaki and pittas, tuna meatballs and pasta (Jamie Oliver recipe) and I think aubergine parmiagana.
It’s easier now the dc are older and will eat most things. I still hate cooking but dp does most of it and I do the odd night when he’s busy.
When the dc were younger they ate earlier than us and it was such a faff having to cook twice - it really took the fun out of it for me (this was when I did do most of the cooking!) but as they are less fussy now and eat with us mealtimes are easier just cooking once.

BlobbyTheLump · 27/10/2019 13:19

@Charley50 As of now, DD will eat;

  • Quiche
  • Tins of Heinz pasta
  • Peas
  • Chicken Nuggets
  • Chips
  • Sausages
  • Cheese
  • Plain Pasta
  • Fruit
  • Pizza

That's about it.
She might eat a roast if she's in the mood and eats most of her nursery meals, but if I put the exact same thing in front of her she'll cry, scream and make herself physically sick.
She gags when trying to swallow things she doesn't like.

I thought it was my cooking Blush because DPs mum made us all a roast and she had a decent portion of it, but everyone else says my cooking is good - I'm at a loss!

I typically do a roast most Sunday’s but dp and I are hungover today as we went out last night so it’ll be something easy I think, maybe sausage, mash and onion gravy.

We are off out for brunch now so the healthy eating will have to take a slide today.

Bluesheep8 · 27/10/2019 14:13

Tea tonight is chicken burgers in buns with homemade oven chips and salad. I've also made a mixed bean chilli for tomorrow's tea and some mackerel pate for packed lunches. Tuesday's tea will be homemade tomato and basil soup with crusty bread, Wednesday will be lemon and parsley dusted sole with new potatoes and roast med veg, Thursday will be sausages and mash and Friday probably chicken fajitas.

Arrowfanatic · 27/10/2019 14:17

Sausage casserole with baby potatoes & veg.

Getoffmylilo · 27/10/2019 14:22

Fishfingers, peas and chips, a gin and tonic and some Freddo Frogs by the looks of things. Haven't got out of pyjamas, not planning on.

AStubbornlyPersistentIllusion · 27/10/2019 14:28

Place marking for inspiration!

BentNeckLady · 27/10/2019 14:41

Lentil dal with rice and roti.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 27/10/2019 14:42

For my DH and I, I will make roast beef, roast potatoes, assorted veg, Yorkshire pudding, gravy made from pan juices, mustard, horseradish. All washed down with wine. I love Sundays.

KeeperofthePeace · 27/10/2019 14:48

Dug out my 10 year old Gino D'Campo cookbook as that has served me well in the past. So tonight we are having spicy carrot soup with croutons to start, and then chicken in palma ham with a 'warm' French bean and goats cheese salad on the side. I have made garlic ciabatta bread and am in two minds whether we need another carbohydrate....

Muckycat · 27/10/2019 14:51

Baked potato (oven) with veggie haggis, fried red onions, peas and a bit of cheddar. Random mix but delicious!

Drabarni · 27/10/2019 14:51

We are having lamb steaks, and the usual mix of vegetables, steamed today.
It's dd favourite so tea and back to school for about 7/8pm.

Drabarni · 27/10/2019 14:52

Muckycat

Ooh, I so want yours now, it sounds delicious.

happypotamus · 27/10/2019 14:52

We are having dahl with naan bread
It's not pay day yet and we already had the ingredients for that.
