DM constantly talks to herself and narrates her own thoughts

Does anyone else’s mother do this?

She’s staying with us this weekend and I can hear her in her bedroom narrating her own thoughts. She’s been doing it for years. I’ve never come across anyone else doing it before.

DH does this. He talks to the ball things when he's playing Candy Crush FFS. I can see why he does it when he's fixing things- he's just spent two hours this morning chuntering away to himself trying to work out why the light wasn't working and it was all methodical "now I've tightened this and it was working but now I've moved that it's not so I need to do X. Oh that just made it worse so I'll need to think about doing Y after I've done blah blah" which wouldn't be so annoying if I'd not already said it was a loose connection so I've been interrupting him constantly saying IT'S A LOOSE CONNECTION. I dread to think what he's like at work.

A couple of the DC do it but in the style of a YouTube playtorial thing.

My Mum and Dad do tuneless humming. No idea why.

I do it. Only when alone though.

nakedavengeragain, you have such Wordsmith skills. You should write a book of these, they're fantastic. Star

My husband chatters to himself quite a lot, I'm much quieter. I hope he's not stressed or lonely but suspect that stress is possibly there in some measure.

I do it, mostly when alone or when I’m actually thinking about something else, like driving or the laundry or something. I have a little fantasy chat every morning after I’ve dropped the kids off, with the head of the PTA, where I tell her she is controlling and stuck up, and the way she flicks her hair is annoying. I would never say this in real life, but every morning I run through this.Blush

I do chat to myself when on my own. I sometimes narrate what I'm doing in the manner of a YouTube tutorial or similar.
"So, when you've cut the fabric, pin the sides. You can use clips if you like but I find pins mean the seams don't shift." type stuff.

I was at work arguing with the stapler the other day. "Oh you absolute fucker, why aren't you working? You were working fine earlier, what have you done? Let's have a look inside. Oh you've only bloody jammed on a staple you complete bastard..." I'd been going on in this vein for some time before I realised there was a customer standing behind me who just handed me their stuff wordlessly with raised eyebrows. Grin

@Bofster37 Your longer post could have written about my DH! I never know whether he’s talking to me or merely thinking aloud. When I respond, he insists he hasn’t said something that he’s just said. Out loud. Then he argues that it must have been me who said it or (infuriatingly) that I imagined it. On occasion, I will try to relate a story that a friend has told me and he will interrupt, trying to anticipate what I’m going to say or ‘solve’ the issue. It’s exhausting!
