So i have never been able to watch "Fried Green Tomatoes" because of a death that happens in the start of the film.... I've heard its good, but... it just gives me the heebies....and had to turn it off

So today I am going to watch it! (i might skip the death)

anyone got anything like this? or am i just a complete weirdo???

I can't watch anything where an animal dies.

Even the ending of the Homeward Bound film makes me sob uncontrollably (where the lovely old dog just looks at his house..sniff). I've lost my parents, but there's something about the animals going that just reduces me and I try to avoid films with that in.

So no Marley and Me for me...

Chrysanthemum5 · 25/10/2019 15:36

Peppa pig - I just loathe it (and I have a high tolerance for children's tv normally Grin)

balonzz · 25/10/2019 15:39

Anything with Ricky Gervais in it. I suppose I just don't get his humour.

MsJuniper · 25/10/2019 15:49

I never got past the first scene of Saving Private Ryan.

Mrsemcgregor · 25/10/2019 15:52

Blade runner. It’s my DHs favourite film but to me it’s dark and boring and I don’t care about anyone in it!

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 25/10/2019 15:58

I agree with Blade Runner, to be fair can't even get past the posters. I can imagine it's interminably long and dull. I may of course be wrong but I'll never know.

HalfManHalfLabrador · 25/10/2019 16:03

Bambi and Pinocchio after being traumatized by then as a young child

HalfManHalfLabrador · 25/10/2019 16:04

I agree with PP re Bladerunner I think it’s shite too

Ponoka7 · 25/10/2019 16:09

I can't watch home invasions like 'the strangers'. I love horror but the thought of a scenario, such as that, that could happen, sends me cold.

Whatthefunk · 25/10/2019 16:33

Schindler's list...I know I should, but just can't bring myself to watch...

icebearforpresident · 25/10/2019 17:40

I’ve not watched the fox and the hound since I was a kid, that film scarred me for life!

BanjoStarz · 25/10/2019 17:47

War Horse, I’m sure it’s great but no, I just can’t.

And the latest Jurassic Park, I have to leave the room when they are on the boat going away from the island - then I can pretend the island still exists and the dinosaurs didn’t die.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/10/2019 17:55

Star Wars not seen any but the random clips are enough to tell me it's not my thing and I don't want to commit a billionty hours. But I do like Star Trek but only with William Shatner when he was young

Doobigetta · 25/10/2019 18:01

No wildlife documentaries. The nicer they start out, and the more cute lion cubs/baby elephants/penguins there are, the more upsetting it is when they start getting picked off one by one.

wanderings · 25/10/2019 18:23

Stories with weak pushover characters, who get manipulated into doing things, because they can’t assert themselves. Often comedies, but I don’t find this funny at all, because I used to be like that. Keeping up Appearances was one of the worst for these, because nobody dared say no to the irrepressible Hyacinth Bucket.

Anything that’s too predictable - I like surprises, rather than tired formulaic plots.

Gazelda · 25/10/2019 18:28

I've never watched Mr & Mrs Smith because of the Brad/Ange/Jen thing. Although I've probably watched hundreds of other films that feature actors who've been adulterous. It's just this one annoyed me particularly.

DD (11) can't watch Up because of the old lady's death.

I also refuse to watch anything that has Chevy Chase in it. No reason other than irrational dislike.

Confuseddotcotton · 25/10/2019 18:30

I really struggle to follow the plot lines when programmes are set in more than one time zone. Unfortunately it seems to be the trend nowadays. All the backwards and forwards, I can’t keep up!

I also hate any programme that has the viewers joining in, either on the phone or those political debate type programmes. I find them all very cringy. The chatty bits of game shows are also generally dreadful.

Confuseddotcotton · 25/10/2019 18:32

Also struggle with actors who can’t quite do the right accents. Vera is the worst for this. That recent itv drama based in Swindon was also dreadful for actors struggling with accents.

skorpion · 25/10/2019 18:48

The Apprentice. God, those people are AWFUL. Nothing makes me lose faith in humanity quicker than that drivel.

Can't watch the soaps

Used to but took a break as they were just too big a time commitment

After a break, the poor quality of writing and acting is SO noticeable, but you don't see it when you're watching all the time like noseblindness

Crystal87 · 25/10/2019 19:43

All soaps. I used to love Eastenders but haven't for about 7 years because the storylines were dreadful. I put it on recently and hardly knew any of the characters. I try and keep up with Corrie but I find the storylines ridiculous and too unrealistic, it's stupid.
I also find all game shows boring.

wanderings · 25/10/2019 19:50

I used to be unable to bear the end of the original Mary Poppins, because of the children crying when she leaves. However I did watch it again recently, and thought that their tears were rather less convincing than I remembered.

Mrsjayy · 25/10/2019 19:55

Cctv/police documentaries so very irritating.

Celebrity juice it is repulsive and not funny !

Horror films especially japanese ones

Color purple was a really sad film and i can't watch it again even though i love the book.

Confuseddotcotton · 25/10/2019 20:01

Soaps for me too. I used to enjoy EastEnders but gave up when the brought Dirty Den back from the dead. Decided that was a step too far!

Also hate the faux-self-depreciation by the contestants on any crafty type talent show, like GBBO. They obviously know they are good at their craft or they wouldn’t have applied in the first place, then they have had that fact reaffirmed when they were invited on to the show, but then it’s all ‘I’m so rubbish, I can’t do this, I’m going to fail’ etc etc.
