17 yr old DD has bloody nits!

FFS! I thought we’d seen the last of those bloodsucking little feckers a decade ago! Angry Am additionally annoyed because it’s due to her dad’s girlfriend not bothering to de-louse her kid before they all went on holiday together. Hmm

Do any of the shop-bought things work? When she was at primary, I used to comb through with conditioner and the nitty gritty comb every Sunday and that got rid, but it’s not doing the trick this time. Are they still resistant to everything on the market, or is there some miracle cure that’s come on the market in those blissfully louseless years?

Help me please! 🙏

Congratulations but I fail to see the link.

NoSquirrels · 15/10/2019 23:17

I had a baby at 17 why the fuck are you combing her hair ?

Because she’s her mum, she wants to help, and it’s the kind of arse-ache job that is virtually impossible to do yourself if you have hair like the OP has described her DD having. Ask me how I know!

RavenLG · 15/10/2019 23:17

Definitely easier for someone else to see the back and top of your head ensuring there are no sections missed, but don’t let common sense stop you.

partysong · 15/10/2019 23:38

The last time I caught them I was 36 years old. I tried to treat them myself but it was a nightmare.

In the end lyclear and my mum combing my hair did the trick. Why wouldn't a mum help at any age never mind a 17 year old!

TwistinMyMelon · 16/10/2019 00:04

I'm a single parent, I remember trying to de-louse my child, going to scratch an itch and finding a live fucker on my neck, of course I then got them - it was really fucking difficult trying to de louse myself, and not really the kind of thing you invite your mates round to do for you - so I think it's perfectly reasonable for the op to help her 17 year old out a bit...

Collision · 16/10/2019 00:12

@paige789 very unhelpful

Why wouldn’t you help your child?

Quellium · 16/10/2019 00:16

I would help a 17 Yr old, any adult or they'll miss bits and you won't clear it.

I've used hedrin and straighteners to get rid. Good luck.

My DD's first job was in a child care centre and she had nits literally every week. She has really thick curly hair too, so it was a pain ! She just used to use the nit treatment every few weeks, and washed / conditioned every couple of days and used the nit comb.

Sethos · 16/10/2019 12:49

It took ages, due to aforementioned thickness of hair and the fact that she’s just had an industrial piercing done in one ear and has a couple of still-healing piercings in the other ear, 🙄 but we did the Hedrin Once this morning. 🤞 that’s the end of them!

In fact, there were hardly any this time, and only a couple of large/adult lice. Last time there were dozens of the feckers, and the first time... I prefer not to dwell on that, actually... Envy

I would do it again next week and then use tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner to keep them away.

Elbowedout · 16/10/2019 15:02

I would do it again until you have found nothing I think. You only need to have missed a couple of eggs to be back to square one. I know it is a total PITA but I think I would rather be safe than sorry.

TheBigFatMermaid · 16/10/2019 22:06

Comb through in two days, then again in two more days.

GreenTulips · 16/10/2019 22:35

You don’t need the expensive shampoo and conditioner

Just add your own tea tree oil to both and on the hair directly - much cheaper
