What happens if the school bus is late?

We live 3 miles down an A road from dc school. They get the general public bus at 7.30 as the traffic is so bad. School starts at 8.45. Every 2 lates is a detention.

There is another school about a mile further along. They have a designated free school bus for their pupils. When I leave for work at half 8, it is always stuck in the traffic. There is no way it even gets there for 9. Would you think the late kids on that bus would get detention/other punishment as they would in my dc school? As there are other busses they can get earlier, and pay for but they have no control over what time their school bus comes.

I know this has no impact on me what so ever and it nobody on here will know the answer for sure but it's really bugging me and I don't know anybody who goes there to ask lol

My DC catch a public bus and if it is late, all the kids that were on it make sure that they walk into school together so that they dont get a late mark. If they arrived individually the school would assume it was their own fault - caught later bus etc.

If it is a designated free school bus, I'd guess that many kids use it. And I'd also guess that the bus company would communicate with the school about being frequently stuck in traffic. No doubt the kids would also tell their teachers why they were late. So no, I don't agree that those kids would get detention for something which is totally out of their control.

The kids won't be consequenced for lateness, the school will track the arrival times of that bus and chase it up. Although when it was an issue for one of my kids, it was to do with the route and a well known traffic hot spot there was no avoiding to get to the school, and Ofsted ended up getting involved during the inspection because the kids on that route were always late, every day.

My DD gets a school bus and if the bus itself is late they don't get a late mark. However, there were incidents where they'd been waiting a while in wet weather and they'd go into the toilets to sort themselves out on arrival and got a late mark for that which I thought was a bit unfair as it wasn't really their fault they got drenched waiting for a late bus.

I help to run 2 private buses for 3 different routes fir our school (for out if catchment children. The in catchment Ines get a free bus).

If our bus is late the bus company infirm is and the school so the School office know. They don't get a late mark for this. If they're too late for the register they sign in at the Student Services offices.

Our buses aren't often late though.

Public transport buses in my area growing up had a form that the driver would give to the oldest looking child on the bus if the bus was late. Form given to headteachers = no consequences for the passengers who were late.

This happens with my DC's school quite often and since several of them arrive together they don't get penalised

Sigh ZOMBIE. MNHQ just delete this thread please

DS used to get a free school bus as there's no pavement along a section of his route to school. If it was late it was obvious as there would be a horde of kids trooping in at once so they weren't marked late.

I guess the school could also have checked with the coach company about any delays if they were concerned.
