'Grown up' tea towels

Aridane · 13/10/2019 13:59

I have only just noticed that my somewhat elderly (decades Blush) tea towels are mismatched, Different sizes, a bit ragged and, well, really just quite 'studenty''.

Where would you suggest to buy grown up tea towels?

My only grown up tea towel is a 100% linen one by Ulster Weaver by appoint, ent to Her Majesty with zero absorbency

Radical tea towels are superb.

I highly recommend the ones from Hema - inexpensive and really good quality. They last for years.

Linen tea towels are supposed to be better than cotton. Does your linen towel have a lot of printing on? I think too much ink makes them less absorbent.

TKMaxx often have Portuguese cotton tea towels, if you like posh patterned things.

Belindabelle · 13/10/2019 16:13

I find TK Maxx good for tea towels.

I had no idea Hema was available in the uk!

AliceLittle · 13/10/2019 16:29

Linen glass towels from Nisbets a commercial kitchen retailer.

Arrowfanatic · 13/10/2019 16:31

Good old ikea!

jollygoose · 13/10/2019 16:32

Have just realised the reason my tea towels behave so badly is that they are in the terrible 2 phase.

CuddlePounce · 13/10/2019 16:35

Linen ones from the White Company

spongedog · 13/10/2019 16:36

Like another pp I often buy from where I have visited, but I am also now buying from smaller local makers.

I love these ones from Lush www.lushlampshades.co.uk/collections/t-towels

SeaSidePebbles · 13/10/2019 16:41

Another vote for Hema. It’s bizarre, I’ve just done a big online shop yesterday, and I did get kitchen towels 😂

EllaEllaE · 13/10/2019 16:45

I love everything on this site: todryfor.com/

Kitchen Aid tea-towels from TK Maxx

pikapikachu · 13/10/2019 16:59

I buy plain catering ones that are more like towels and absorb brilliantly.

Home Bargains.

raspberryk · 13/10/2019 17:46

I've only really ever had them from supermarkets or next, I'm sure I have some that are over a decade and are fine but we don't use them to dry things very often as we have a dishwasher.

PlatinumBrunette · 13/10/2019 18:12

I like the designs on these but haven’t tried them yet - their dishcloths are good though shop.jangneus.com/products/category/teatowel

Aridane · 13/10/2019 19:11

Thank you all.

Like some other posters, my tea towels have only ever been from supermarkets and some of them are now, I think, 30:years old? Time for some new ones!

I am maki g my way

I am making my way through the links provided .

Please excuse my ignorance - but what is the difference between a kitchen towel, a tea towel and a tea cloth?

I think I know what the first x2 are - but what is a tea cloth?

(This is from looking at the Hema website)

I have some that are very old and they’re still the best if you actually want to dry something!

Second best are the glasses ones (photo 1)

The rest of mine are from my holidays to Provence - love their t towels.

Ikea ones are good too.

I hate linen tea towels. Yes, they look very lovely but are fuck all use as they don’t dry stuff.

Lowlandlucky · 14/10/2019 05:19

I cant put up with rubbish t towels. I won a pack of really good t towels in the church raffle, they are excellent and have stayed really thick even after 4 years, they have been used for a day then washed every week, so they have been through the machine hundreds of times. They came from poundstretcher and were £2.99 for 2, they come in all different coloured checks.
