The Sistine Screamer

I'm in Rome on a romantic weekend with DH. We've been here a few times before but there's always more to see.

Today we revisited the Vatican Museum and whilst enjoying the Sistine chapel ceiling I suddenly remembered the thread, in AIBU I believe, where an OP wanted to know if her husband was BU for walking away embarrassed when she screamed and cried because of the beauty of the ceiling. I'm not ashamed to say I snorted out loud at the memory.

Does anyone else remember that thread?

It's beautiful even that intro has cheered me up again Grin

It's wonderful!!

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/10/2019 22:23

One of my absolute favourites Grin

I know people hate the “I spat out my tea” thing and I don’t drink tea, but I started reading it on my lunch break at work and was shaking silently at my computer in stitches. Genius.

Have a wonderful trip OP, I’m pea green!

Mercury? And if it was? Who bloody cares!!

I'd take a troll like that over 95% of the droll posters on here.

Bluntness100 · 12/10/2019 22:27

To be fair, troll or not, that one made me snort with laughter,

If it was a troll then I take my hat off to them,, 😂

NonUrinatInVentum · 12/10/2019 22:27

This sentence ...

We went to the Sistine Chappell the day after and I ended up screaming at the MichaelAngelo

Comedy gold Grin

There was one about Alfred burning cakes

Was that the "AIBU to throw perfectly edible, but not-quite-right cakes in the bin, even though my family said they'll eat them anyway?" thread.

Went on for ages with outraged replies talking about how wasteful it was and "why not at least feed the birds" - to which the OP wrote "there are no birds where I am", which pretty much rumbled her as a troll. I think there was a clue in the username too that the poster wasn't entirely serious.

I think the thread wasnt deleted as it was funny and didn't hurt anyone, but it sparked a huge debate about "good" vs "bad" trolling.

NonUrinatInVentum · 12/10/2019 23:01

If it's not harmful, inciting rage or offensive and we all get a good chuckle out of it I'm happy to have good trolling.

oh looks like i missed the zoo thread

Bellasblankexpression · 13/10/2019 09:42

I mean even though it turned out to be a troll, it still made me cry with laughter. It painted such a vivid image

Burpsandrustles · 13/10/2019 09:42

I always thought trolling was something that caused people to be upset eg.
. Had my dc taken away by social services or next door kid being beaten up. M what should I do...

Not screaming passionately at art?!!

Burpsandrustles · 13/10/2019 09:42

Perhaps comedy writer testing out new scene?!

Burpsandrustles · 13/10/2019 09:44

I especially liked the part where security escorted her out but also with kind concern Grin and an old lady had to be calmed down (by other tourists) after being shocked by her scream Grin

A whole domino effect going on, maybe the pope heard?

isabellerossignol · 13/10/2019 09:49

How does everyone know the sistene screamer was a troll?

Because she claimed to scream in the Sistene Chapel at the sheer beauty of it? That was the first clue...

Apileofballyhoo · 13/10/2019 10:37

The cakes was very funny.

bruffin · 13/10/2019 10:54

Yes it was a premise from an Alexander McCall Smith 44 Scotland Street books!

Submariner · 13/10/2019 10:56

I too believed the Sistine screamer was a troll until I heard about Stendhal Syndrome.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stendhal_syndrome

Seriously - it's being physically overwhelmed by beauty and seems to be specifically linked to Florence.

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/artanddesign/shortcuts/2018/dec/18/stendhal-syndrome-botticelli-the-birth-of-venus

Added a whole new dimension to the story for me! Unless it's a really well researched troll??

bruffin · 13/10/2019 11:05

Ive remembered which book

It was Antonia in Bertie Plays the Blues (no 7 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith)
She is hospitalized in a nunnery with Stendhal Syndrome after visiting the Uffizi Gallery

MulticolourMophead · 13/10/2019 11:05

Was Brian from Hull and his Yoni massage ever determined to be a troll? Or was he simply a loon? Was funny, though.

I certainly remember one young man who came on, all fired up with his fabulous IT skills and patronisingly offering to teach us ladies how to use IT. He got ripped a new one in some very funny replies.

Burpsandrustles · 13/10/2019 11:28

Who cares!

There are trolls all over mn dragging every threads down with continual misery and general rudeness.

Lighten up folks this stuff is light hearted fun! Fun.
