Anyone else watching Eliud Kipchoge’s 2hr marathon attempt?

I’m really rooting for him, I hope he makes it- I used to train in middle distance running when I was a teenager but I don’t think I could keep up that pace for more than a few hundred metres now... such a huge feat of achievement to even get to a level where someone could realistically attempt this!

SadVillageGirl · 12/10/2019 08:45

It's being followed on the bbc news

EmAreSea · 12/10/2019 08:46

its on red button on iplayer.
I think its quite amazing how all the pacemakers from all over the world are working together to help him do it.

Stravapalava · 12/10/2019 08:47

Me! Even my 4 year old DD is into it. I think he might do it!

EmAreSea · 12/10/2019 08:49

2:50/km splits... bonkers! DH is a marathon runner and he said even he couldn’t keep up with them for longer than about a minute.

I'm watching on Youtube. The pace they're doing is just crazy, and to sustain it over 2 hours...wow!

Trewser · 12/10/2019 08:58

Amazing

BarbaraofSeville · 12/10/2019 09:00

I saw the start and then had to do boring housework stuff. Plus we're currently having new broadband fitted so I lost the internet halfway through this post anyway.

Probably stupid question about the pacemakers - have they been swapping them in and out? Because obviously if they all ran with him all the way, then they'd all have done the marathon in record time?

They must all be fast runners too - other good marathon/half marathons etc?

PiggyPlumPie · 12/10/2019 09:00

Me! Love watching the pacemakers change. Really hope he does it!

motorcyclenumptiness · 12/10/2019 09:12

Got everything crossed - c'mon Eliud!!!

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 12/10/2019 09:14

Wow, just started watching this. Its amazing! How do they do that, it looks exhausing

Justmuddlingalong · 12/10/2019 09:14

@BarbaraofSeville I wondered that about the pacemakers too.

Trewser · 12/10/2019 09:15

Is he actually going tondo it

GG20 · 12/10/2019 09:16

He's done it!

marvellousnightforamooncup · 12/10/2019 09:16

OMG he hasn't even collapsed.

nononever · 12/10/2019 09:16

Wow, unbelievable

Trewser · 12/10/2019 09:17

Amazing. Finding the hyperbole cringemaking but I'm a moody cow today.

nononever · 12/10/2019 09:17

Can't believe he's still running about !

Justmuddlingalong · 12/10/2019 09:18

That's amazing. I've slobbed about in my pyjamas drinking coffee since 7.30 am. He's run a bloody marathon. Incredible feat. We'll done!

PiggyPlumPie · 12/10/2019 09:19

Bloody brilliant! He smashed it! As a very slow runner, I am totally in awe.

Fishlegs · 12/10/2019 09:19

What a brilliant run. Shame the whole shebang is sponsored by bloody Ineos.

snowballer · 12/10/2019 09:32

Absolutely incredible. What a feat.

Re the pacemakers - yes they've been swapping in

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 12/10/2019 09:50

Bloody unbelievable! I can run a half in 1:55 and that breaks me😂😂😂

Such an achievement.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/10/2019 10:23

Agree about Ineos; vile earthquake causing water polluting bastards - can't even support Geraint Thomas et al because of them.

Kipchoge though. DS(13) is a middle distance runner and burst into my room this morning to share the last five minutes with me on his phone. Really brilliant.
