Got horrendous toothache and can’t get a dentists appt til. Monday afternoon.

Have some cocodamol 500mg paracetomal and 30mg codeine phosphate and have taken a dose a couple of hours ago but it really hasn’t done much for the pain.

Any ideas?

There is nothing worse than tooth pain 😩 Swishing salt water helped and actually placing salt on top of my infected bit helped me last time. Pretty gross but it was throbbing and throbbing and then sudden relief and I could taste blood, the salt/salt water had caused it to burst and I actually managed to sleep

PimmsPleaseee · 05/10/2019 22:53

Mine was an abscess though I think!

Herocomplex · 05/10/2019 22:55

Yes, rinse frequently with salt water

It certainly helps my toothpain! Try some of the gels, they really are good!

A friend of mine went through two bottles of whiskey one weekend for tooth pain; he was sober as a judge as he didn’t swallow any - he just rinsed/swilled/washed the sore side of his mouth every half an hour for two days. He said it was more effective than anything else he’d tried until the dentist yanked the tooth for him.

PixieDustt · 06/10/2019 00:49

Did you ask for an emergency appointment?
You do realise you can phone 111 and they will re direct you to the nearest NHS emergency dentist.

SamBeckett · 06/10/2019 01:46

Clove oil taste vile but is good at numbing tooth ache. Put a bit on a cotton bud and rub it on the affected area . Trying not to get it on your tongue and lips though.

Nurofen melters broken half and put between your cheek and gum work well but don't do it too often as they can cause ulcers.

Throat numbing sprays work wonders providing in the right spot.

I don't know enough about mixing painkillers to advise on that aspect.

Rachelover60 · 06/10/2019 07:27

I laughed at the two bottles of whisky, Incy. My goodness I would really be sick at that but certainly alcohol helps numb tooth pain (especially combined with co codamol but I know that is controversial), just not two bottles of spirits!

I bet tomorrow afternoon can't come soon enough for the op, I hope all goes well then.

purplepingu · 06/10/2019 20:09

Pixiedustt I tried ringing 111 after suffering for two days over the weekend to be told I'd have to wait for my dentist to open as I'm a registered patient. Apparently you can only access the emergency dentist if you're not registered with a dentist. I could have cried!

areyoubeingserviced · 06/10/2019 20:15

Second the whisky idea.

When I had pulpitis, swishing cold water round the tooth every few minutes helped no end. When it turned into an awful abcess, the dentist presribed antibiotics and recommended nurofen plus. I used that, paracetamol and orajel extra until they could fit me in to pull the tooth.

Likethebattle · 06/10/2019 23:57

@purplepingu i’ve been seen twice by the emergency dentist from calling NHS 24 in Scotland and umm a registered patient. My mum also got seen, she was climbing the wall with an abscess. She went to emergency dentist based at ooh doctor (after calling NHS24) he told her ‘I can pull the tooth and the pain will subside, if you want to keep the tooth you’ll need to wait to see your own dentist’ as they do emergency treatment and ‘repairs’ only. She decided after two nights of no sleep to get it pulled.

Graphista · 07/10/2019 00:17

"I used sore throat spray on mine when I had an abscess."

Just what I was coming on to say! The kind with low dose local anaesthetic in it! Spray directly on gum under affected tooth.

Roll on Monday for you op

Youngatheart00 · 07/10/2019 18:43

Graphista · 07/10/2019 22:03

Good stuff op hope you're feeling much better soon

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 07/10/2019 23:00

You want ibuprofen. Codeine wont do shit, you need an anti inflammatory. Take 3 ibuprofen and 2 paracetamol every 6 hours but you MUST eat something first to line your stomach.

MrMeSeeks · 09/10/2019 21:18

Codeine and ibuprofen are great for bad toothache!
