Ugh - dead rat 🐀

Ugh - there is a dead big flat grey rat in my back garden. In the middle of my (small) lawn . 🐀

I live in central-ish London. How is this even possible?

Ugh - guess I now need to put on some disposable gloves and bag it up for disposal. Or maybe I'll do it tomorrow

Grim! Not surprising though. There are bazillions of rats in London.

Windydaysuponus · 05/10/2019 16:06

We also have a rat.
My ndn!!
Grin

AutumnRose1 · 05/10/2019 16:09

What do you mean, how is it possible? Rats are more likely in central London.

If you leave it out, it might be eaten, I don't know if you'd feel better or worse about that? As you have a garden, you could bury it - I don't mean with pomp and ceremony 😂 - if you'd rather not bag it up.

RaymondStopThat · 05/10/2019 16:10

Yuk. Am puzzled you think living in central London might make this less likely. London is full of rats, like everywhere else. Even HRH has them at Buck Palace Grin

thetardis · 05/10/2019 16:11

compost bin

thetardis · 05/10/2019 16:12

leaving it will bring foxes, magpies, flies etc...

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 05/10/2019 16:12

Better than a live rat!

Aridane · 05/10/2019 16:14

Puzzled because it's flat - lie a cartoon squashed rat.

Why would it be flat / squashed?

So not injured and dead, or died in its sleep sort of thing, but dead and flat like (lightly) run over.

OP posts:
Lovetunnocks · 05/10/2019 16:16

Might have been run over, then picked up by a bird or other animal and dropped on your lawn?

Aridane · 05/10/2019 16:17

Ah, foxes - of course - I have a resident Fox. Maybe it bought in flat rat

Is it possible a CF neighbour flattened it to kill it, and then chucked it over your fence?

AutumnRose1 · 05/10/2019 16:20

I would love a Resident Fox!

Flat Rat sounds like inspiration for a comedy soft toy/cushion.

Windydaysuponus · 05/10/2019 16:20

Pied piper stood on it?

CountSnackula · 05/10/2019 16:20

Our garden was clearly the entrance to the rat underworld for a while. We had three dead rats within about two months. We think it was either cats or foxes or that someone had put poison down nearby and that the rats only made it as far as us before karking it.

We buried them. Hopefully, they've well composted now.

Aridane · 05/10/2019 16:22

I had wondered that, AutumnRose1 - that was my initial reaction (well, more feral teenagers as a 'joke' rather than CF neighbours). Just because flat rats aren't the typical genus

AutumnRose1 · 05/10/2019 16:50

"Pied piper stood on it?"

That would be an easy mistake to make, in fairness 😂

OP, I know it's not nice to have a flat rat in your garden but it's given me a much needed laugh today. So Flat Rat's life had a legacy.....

Aridane · 06/10/2019 17:40

Flat (wet) Rat disposed of this morning (disposable gloves and layers of wrapping).

Council waste collection men took it, bless them.

You have collections on a Sunday?

Eulogy for Flat Rat

Oh Flat Rat
You taught me that
Even in the midst of stress and tears
There can be a cartoon funny moment
Whether you came from a CF
Or were attacked by a spade that came suddenly alive
You did not survive
But you did me good.
(With apologies to Ariadne)

Aridane · 06/10/2019 18:35

No collections on a Sunday- they just messed up Thursday’s collections (fortunately for me).

Ode to a Flat Rat!

Poor ratty. Sad

Aridane · 07/10/2019 13:33

Ratty was nearly a foot long (though that could have been aggravated by this partial flatness) and with his tail fully extended was quite a fearsome (dead) creature.

He has left behind some flattened Ratty shaped indentation. (Note to self: must mow lawn once it's less sodden and before winter...).

I usually bury them. Recently had a suicidal rat; well probably just thirsty.

Pest disposal recommend burying 2’ deep-not sure my garden has that much soil!
