Rose - alee

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 05/10/2019 15:14

Rosa-lee

But with only one emphasis, on the Ro (not on Lee as well)

MrsBungle · 05/10/2019 15:15

Rose-alee

HairyFloppins · 05/10/2019 15:16

Rose-alee

DramaAlpaca · 05/10/2019 15:16

It's RO-za-ly. The stress is on the first syllable & the last syllable is very short, not like Lee.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 05/10/2019 15:18

Rose - alee emphasis on the "rose"

user1480880826 · 05/10/2019 15:19

Roz-a-lee.

Rose-alee is a modern interpretation of an old name.

AuntieStella · 05/10/2019 15:21

Roz-a-lee

It's the same 'pattern' as Rosalind, Rosalyn, Rosaline, Rosabel and Rosamund

I've never met a Rose-a-lee in RL, but it's clear from other posts that some people do say it that way

goingtotown · 05/10/2019 15:22

Roz a lee

NameChange84 · 05/10/2019 15:24

Rose-alee, emphasis on the Rose.

I've never met a Rozalee. The oldest Rosalie (Rose-alee) I know of is in their eighties but Irish. Don't known if that makes a difference pronunciation wise.

NameChange84 · 05/10/2019 15:26

Cross posted with AuntieStella! So we are two sides of the same coin in a way.

DramaAlpaca · 05/10/2019 15:31

I think being Irish does make a difference pronunciation wise NameChange84. Rosaleen in Ireland is always ROSE-a-leen, in my experience, not ROZ-a-leen, and Rosalie is similar.

NameChange84 · 05/10/2019 15:35

@DramaAlpaca, yes I'm in England but I also know some Irish Rosaleens now you mention it. But even the English/Welsh/Aussies and Americans I have met say Rosealee for Rosalie so I wasnt sure if it was an Irish thing or not.

Greggers2017 · 05/10/2019 15:36

My DSD is Rosalie and we pronounce is Rosa-lee. Although she prefers Rose now she's getting older.

annielouise · 05/10/2019 15:54

Roz a lee

noroominthefridge · 05/10/2019 16:07

Thanks for making me google this now Grin

noroominthefridge · 05/10/2019 16:09

Sorry, should have added that it's a Thin Lizzy song for those of us who hate clicking random links.

Milkstick · 05/10/2019 16:10

@noroom same!

MsJRMEsq · 05/10/2019 17:17

Ive always thought it was ROZ-a-lee but somebody I know has just said it's their name for their baby (best hope it's a girl!) due any day now but they said Rosalee - they are Irish/Scottish if it makes a difference.

ALongHardWinter · 05/10/2019 18:32

Rosa-lee.

Carrie7899 · 05/10/2019 18:35

Rose a Lee

WatchItGrotchet · 05/10/2019 18:50

Rose-a-lee

housemdwaswrong · 05/10/2019 19:19

Rosa-LEE. Welsh accent. I'd have to really concentrate to put the emphasis on the first syllable

Lovestonap · 05/10/2019 20:31

I'm English as was my grandma (born in 1920s) she was always Rose-alee with the emphasis on the Ro, and my daughter is too. To be honest I've never heard it pronounced rozalee but it would make sense with the Rosalind thing so both could be right.

Lovestonap · 05/10/2019 20:31

I'm biased but I think it's such a pretty name :)
