Anyone awake to speculate wildly with me about whether I'm in labour?

cockingup · 04/10/2019 02:12

This is baby #2 - my first (now 4) came early and labour / delivery was unusual so don't really feel I have a 'normal' frame of reference.

I'm 38 weeks. Had sex at 10pm-ish for the first time in a long time. Now I'm getting tummy pains and tightenings every so often - though very mild - and wind, nausea, lots of pooing...

Basically I know the answer is "this might be labour, wait and see" but as per thread title I'd like some speculation buddies who are willing to confidently express their unqualified opinions, please. DH is snoring happily beside me but I can't sleep.

Hope all goes well and not too ouchy

The labour ward is full so I'm still in an induction room, bouncing happily on my ball. Not expecting any waters to be broken before 8ish at the earliest!

Midwife is lovely and chilled and super experienced and just really encouraging. She's saying all sorts of lovely things about how it's great to progress with minimal intervention if you can. So I'm feeling good.

DH made it in but is heading off shortly to do bedtime for DD. It's a nice room I'm in with a TV and a kettle, so with the exception of the intermittent searing pain, it's a bit like a budget hotel break.

Isn't 'intermittent searing pain' normal for a budget hotel break? I certainly get it in my back after trying to sleep on the cheapest possible Airsprung Mattresses from Argos those places buy.

And at least you have drinkable coffee.

99GreenBalloons · 17/10/2019 18:31

Wow op you are super duper chilled!! I hope I'm like you when I have dc3 next year. Good luck Flowers

Dollywilde · 17/10/2019 18:38

You’re a superstar @cockingup! My mate gave birth today so I vote you get there tonight for another 17 October babe Grin

Keep that positivity going, fingers crossed for a straightforward one.... not long now!

Elieza · 17/10/2019 19:47

So exciting. All the best Flowers

PurpleViolin · 17/10/2019 23:58

@cockingup how are you?

2018SoFarSoGreat · 18/10/2019 01:12

hello Cockingup and baby Cockingup. I'm late to the thread, but am so excited for you. Hope he makes it easy in the last bits. You can do it!

turnthebiglightoff · 18/10/2019 01:52

Ah inductions; not the most fun I've ever had. Good luck OP; just think, in 6 months time you'll want to do it all again Grin COME ON BABY!!!

user1474894224 · 18/10/2019 02:02

Good luck @cockingup. Hope little Octavius Horatio arrives safely. (Can't believe you still haven't had him/her).

cockingup · 18/10/2019 05:45

Hello!! I'm still here, and would you believe it (of course you would because this is endless and NEVER EVER GOING TO HAPPEN) baby is still inside.

The ward has continued to be very busy overnight with ladies sadly having very tricky labours, so I've just been pottering around my little room slooooowly contracting and thinking hopeful thoughts.

DH went home at teatime to look after DD. I can only imagine by now he's met and impregnated somebody else, who is probably already closer to delivering him a son than I am.

It's his due date today and I started this thread, what, 14 days ago?! I can't believe you guys are still with me. I bloody love Mumsnet.

Would telling you I went two weeks over with my first be any commiseration or just annoying? I suggest you find a really good box set you can watch on the phone - like 12 hours worth of something. Are you still allowed out the ward to walk around the hospital? If so can you do a circuit every advert break. I bet you get to a really good bit, just when you feel invested in the story and something will happen. Or have you done that already? Are there any plans for you or is it just wait? Have they scanned you again? There's no chance baby is baby to back and slowing progress because he's not pushing down enough?

user1474894224 · 18/10/2019 06:04

Btw also: get your ducks in a row, put your egg in the basket and LTB for having a second family while you are in here. I imagine you saw a solicitor last night.... 😂

Can we take bets - What's coming first your baby or Brexit?

jokerreturns · 18/10/2019 06:09

Awwww cockingup, can't believe nothing happened at 3:10 this morning Smile

Hope you're having tea and toast about now, nap as much as you can as I'm thinking today is the day x

tata4now · 18/10/2019 06:17

Hope you're managing to get some restThanks

Thegracefuloctopus · 18/10/2019 06:24

He's not coming BECAUSE of brexit... He's got sense!

Good luck op

Bobthefishermanswife · 18/10/2019 06:27

Oh op, I keep coming back every morning to see if he's out yet. 7 pages and 2 weeks in and the beasty is still not here.

I hope he's grounded until he's an adult for keeping you waiting and giving you all the false alarms. I thought 4 days of contractions was bad enough with mine...
You have my sympathy!

Fireextinguished · 18/10/2019 06:32

OP I was so similar. I'd be tempted to head home and wait for body to kick in. At home you will relax and it will happen.

Bobbiepin · 18/10/2019 06:34

OP I just read 4 pages and no baby? WTH? tell the kid to get a move on. (Seriously though, I hope it's going ok)

Eatsshoootsandleaves · 18/10/2019 06:44

Well your first was 16 weeks early. So in the spirit of fairness, to have two children this one must come 16 weeks late. Sorry to break the bad news OP but he isn't due until Feb 2020.
