What would you name your house?

If you had to give your house a name, what would you call it? Something classy, something related to the house or something funny/a pun?

I would never choose something funny/a pun. I'd go for a name that is related to the house in some way.

I also wouldn't name a house that has a number. I think that's really tacky.

Pascha · 30/09/2019 14:32

Mine has a number and a name because its one of a group of cottages on a long, rural road. There are several of my number in different sets of houses.

Anyway, if I could name it again I would boringly use the very big tree in my front garden for inspiration. So 'Sequoia House' or 'The Baobabs' or something.

Passthecherrycoke · 30/09/2019 14:34

Depends what it is really? An old post office fire station school house etc?

I think you can very rarely provide some humour. There is a house near me called dunvegan makes me howl

00Sassy · 30/09/2019 14:36

Sod Hall! Grin

HillRunner · 30/09/2019 14:37

I also wouldn't name a house that already has a number. If I had to, I'd choose something directly related to the surroundings or the view.

I'm not sure why Dunvegan is funny? It's a beautiful place.

Bluntness100 · 30/09/2019 14:38

My house only has a name. I like it. It's an old listed building and the name is quite Harry potterish. If I was to name it it would be something similar but related to the house and would keep it classy.

I wouldn't do something funny or something that no one else could understand the meaning of.

Bluntness100 · 30/09/2019 14:40

I also don't get the dunvegan thing.

Costacoffeeplease · 30/09/2019 14:44

Ours has a name, which describes the house

AnneKipanki · 30/09/2019 14:45

My house has a name BUT it is not its original name . In the 70s a builder sold off part of the garden and the "new" house has that name .

The builder named it after a tree in the garden ...but his tree identification skills were rubbish.

AnneKipanki · 30/09/2019 14:46

" Money Pit " would be good though !

HillRunner · 30/09/2019 14:47

Is it that you think Dunvegan has something to do with veganism? Confused

Passthecherrycoke · 30/09/2019 14:47

I’ve realised I made it sound like dunvegan was a stupid name, that’s not what I meant at all Blush the house in question is a multi million £££ grand designs type home (all glass and oak) in west London and the pun amuses me. Like how fed up do you have to be of veganism to call your house.... 🤣

Likethebattle · 30/09/2019 14:47

‘Rest and be thankful’

The Old Grimmery

stillbeingwatched · 30/09/2019 14:51

"Little buntings"

Is a house near me and I just love the name!

Bluntness100 · 30/09/2019 14:53

Dunvegan is a beautiful area in Skye I think Confused

Crazzzycat · 30/09/2019 14:54

For me, it would have to be linked to the local area/views etc and nothing too pretentious or try hard.

But I already live on a street that’s named after the views, so giving my house a name that also refers to the views is a bit overkill!

Passthecherrycoke · 30/09/2019 14:56

“Dunvegan is a beautiful area in Skye I think confused”

It is yes

5BlueHydrangea · 30/09/2019 14:58

Manyana- it means tomorrow, as we never get round to doing things!

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2019 15:00

My house's unofficial name is Pondicherry Lodge from The Sign of 4. Mainly because Pondicherry is such an awesome name!

OhTheRoses · 30/09/2019 15:04

Ours has had three names. Three owners before us. Quite peculiar really. We have no intention of changing it but all its names have been nice.

Ariela · 30/09/2019 15:39

This property was on the market a little while ago, I had a hankering for it as it's called Paradise House. Lovely (if you can afford it).

Mamagin · 30/09/2019 16:01

Just use a number! It's incredibly hard to find a house that only has a name. Bad enough if you are going there to deliver parcels, but could be life and death if you need an ambulance.

gabsdot45 · 30/09/2019 16:05

My road is called The Hill, so I'd like to call the house "At the top of "

Ariela · 30/09/2019 16:05

@Mamagin
House names are so old hat when calling for an ambulance:
