... and at St Jonathan's Church, Lowbeach-on-Sea, the Dean of Lowbeach (the Very Reverend Anselm Latimer) is helping the staff of Eastgate Primary School get the church ready.

The holiday was lovely @Horsemad , but have been back a couple of weeks, and ds went off to university just over a week ago, so the house feels very quiet!

@ForalltheSaints the usual traditional ones, e.g. "We Plough the Fields and Scatter", "Come ye Thankful People Come", "Fair waved the Golden Corn"...

Katinski · 30/09/2019 19:58

WOWEE! Suddenly life just got a whole lot betterGrin
And We Plough the Fields is my earworm tonight. Suits me!
Was that a tin of mackerel I saw? My friend came back from France and bought me some..in dijon mustard,in white wine, in another mustard that wasnt dijon mustard with cream...
I've been eating a lot of tinned mackerel.Grin
My best memory of Harvest Festival is one year I was back in the UK and Dad and I went along to the local Church's Harvest Festival. There was a v.large Rasta enthusing...."Maan, look at them thar spring onions! They must be all of 2 feet long!"
So we looked at the prize leeks, looked at each other, and tried so hard not to laugh, we went quite, well, beetroot colourGrin

SoMuchToBits · 30/09/2019 20:14

@Katinski I think they are maybe sardines but not sure... Grin

Or they could be pilchards or mackerel. I dunno, on PlaymoDB it just says "tin for fish" for that part! Grin

Will the harvest festival carry on tomorrow?

SoMuchToBits · 30/09/2019 21:04

@petalpower , no it's a one day only event! Sorry, but it was organised fairly quickly with the Playmo sets I had to hand.

Largely thanks to when you said to me last week "Do it, do it!" Grin

But I will see what else I can arrange between now and Christmas.

petalpower · 30/09/2019 21:10

SoMuchToBits · 30/09/2019 21:12

I'm sure there will be future events!

Wonderful - what was that vegetable song with the colours?! That makes me think harvest festival. Sadly my children’s school don’t invite parents and we have an organised affair - we are drinks school this year non alcoholic long life drinks only. It’s not the same as the fresh vegetables.

SoMuchToBits · 30/09/2019 21:28

Don't think I know that song @MrsPear but agree that Harvest Festival is different these days.

Ds had HF at primary school (he's now 18) but they had to bring in only non-perishable goods. When I was at primary school you could bring in tins, packets etc but also fresh fruit, veg, bread, flowers etc. The place smelled wonderful!

Love this! Playmobil were always the favourite toy in our house when we were growing up, we would have been very jealous of that collection!

I remember that! They sang very well, didn't they?Wink

CountSnackula · 01/10/2019 08:00

@MrsPear Cauliflowers fluffy and cabbages green? That is a harvest classic.

I have to say, the good folk of Playmoland are way more generous at harvest than anyone else I've seen. At my church growing up people just gave the old tins whose labels had fallen off or packets of dried beans!
