I had a cleaner to do (most of) this list until recently but now BF is moving in soon and we are trying to cut costs.

Both of us working together, How long do you think this would take...

Hi OP,
I'm with you here Grin.
There is me and my 3 (17, 6 and 3) and my boyfriend is now here very regulalry as we are on the verge of moving in. His dd is here every other weekend and a night every week.
I live in a small 3 bed 1930's semi.
I am orgnaised and like things clean and tidy. Boyfriend is the opposite. He isn't bothered. However he has realised that life is much easier when he adopts the doing things as we go along approach.
Some of the things you do, I do ad-hoc. So the high dusting, maybe once a month or a little less - I run the hoover to do it. Windows are done when I see prints, so sometimes done often, sometimes less so!
I don't do any weekly clean as I do it as part of my daily jobs to the most. So downstairs stuff is done every day, the upstairs stuff is done probably every 5-9 days. Just when it needs it really.
I probably spend about an hour a day cleaning, organising (tidying!) and doing other household related jobs ie. Laundry and food shop planning. I don't like to commit to doing things on set days, as I do like some spontaneous weekends.
I have had cleaners in the past. Got rid of them all as I found it pretty pointless doing the whole weekly thing. Some days more needs doing. Some days much less as we are all out the house so it doesn't get messy as much.
The only thing I outsource now is my ironing. Friday PM it is all collected. Returned sat PM (time is to suit me, so depends on if we go out etc). £25 a week for everything we use (other than the teen - he does his own as he treats his clothes like shit so I refuse to do anything other than wash and dry!).
I do think lots of people live in very messy environments - it would put me on edge to live in it. We are all different though.

I'm all for doing 50/50 but if I was presented with that list prior to moving in, I would run for the hills.

Apparently your DP has agreed to do 50% of the list. Do come back and let us know how that's working out in, say, six months.

MrsJoshNavidi · 28/09/2019 16:43

The daily morning stuff takes less than an hour and the evening stuff similar as me and the kids do it together

I was thinking (hoping) the Saturday stuff would be around two hours of graft between the two of us. But as my friend used to do 'the big clean' for me I'm not sure

NO-ONE does that much housework every week! Shock

Jaysus he'll probably move back out after a week 🤣

Gwenhwyfar · 02/10/2019 08:44

"@Gwenhwyfar Umm because I like my cowhide rug perhaps? So I'll keep it, Thank you."

But you're imposing the job of beating it on other people too so it's not just yourself you're creating unnecessary work for.

Blobby10 · 02/10/2019 09:32

Have you added in cleaning the windows ? I have a window cleaner but am always surprised at how much muck they attract on the inside!

Damntheman · 02/10/2019 10:01

Wow people are being so mean to the OP! I'm a total slattern and do maybe SOME of that list once a year but if that's the way OP likes to do it then fair play to her! I'm sure your house looks amazing OP.

And you know, if you're doing ALL that daily and weekly then the 'deep' clean that would likely take me 2 days (because I procrasinate and have dance parties in between) wouldn't take you nearly as long because you're already on top of it all.

Congrats on moving in together! Hope it all goes swimmingly. (please come and clean my house for me, free Norway holiday!)

Damntheman · 02/10/2019 10:02

Also cow hide rugs are LOVELY and the beating of them isn't that much hard work. It can be a bit of fun really! I HATE cleaning and even I can be entertained by giving some fabric a good whacking on the veranda.

MovinOnUp · 02/10/2019 13:30

@Blobby10 The patio doors and kitchen windows get done each week.
The bedrooms windows get done once a month.
They could do with more often tbh, They get filthy so quickly.

Cleaning windows requires lots of elbow grease so BF is kindly seeing to those. :)

Thank you @Damntheman, There were quite a few meanies on the this thread :)

Once he has got all his stuff in and found homes for it all. We are going to go halves on a professional deep clean, So that we are starting from scratch as it were.
Then, As you say, The big clean on a Saturday shouldn't take too long anyway.

"Wow people are being so mean to the OP! I'm a total slattern and do maybe SOME of that list once a year but if that's the way OP likes to do it then fair play to her! "

Well, no, she's imposing it on other people as well.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 02/10/2019 22:54

Can I point out that tvs and indeed most electronics are highly flammable and that you should never put lit candles on top of them. 🔥
Also, I have had many comments on how clean and tidy my house is and I rarely do half the tasks on your list.
Good luck with it all. Move the candles!

Pointof0return · 02/10/2019 23:00

Get another cleaner.

Embracelife · 02/10/2019 23:07

Keep the cleaner.
Surely him moving in means your costs are lower as you will share household costs? So dont cut the cleaner
Do something else on saturday with your bf
Will you never go away for the weekend?

userxx · 02/10/2019 23:13

Jesus Christ that's a hell of a lot of cleaning 😱.

MovinOnUp · 02/10/2019 23:47

@Stayawayfromitsmouth The candles are on the same unit as the tv is on, Not actually on the tv (doubt I'd manage to balance a tealight on the bloody thing anyway)

MovinOnUp · 02/10/2019 23:56

@Gwenhwyfar I don't think discussing and agreeing something beforehand could be considered imposing actually. No-one is forcing him to move in, No-one is forcing him to agree to this.

There are plenty of subjects/issues we have discussed before moving in and we've compromised and come to an agreement on each of them.

@Embracelife We'll go away for the weekend, Yes.
